GE Refrigerator Handle Removal 

Yeah ours recently came loose as well, thought the handle has broken.

I don't think the handles should wiggle too much. You want the clips to pin the handle attach points up against the fridge door.

No worries. Yes, they would go back on the exact same way, you would just hit it in the the other direction to pop it in place. But before you try to hit off with the mallet, make sure the handles aren't held in place with a screw. If they are then you wouldn't need the mallet they would just pull off after you unscrew it. Even with the handles remove it was a tight fit through our front door. I actually had to pull the door off the hinges. Our movers tore the weather stripping on our door cause the guy wouldn't try to slowly work it through. If I can provide anymore insight I can, just let me know.

Mine arrived with the handles uninstalled. Do not loosen them.

Yes, you will be able to install yourself. Do you know if the plastic on the handle broke or did the white clips break? If it's GE I think they would all slide the same way. But the clips on the door will signify how they slide into the slots on the handle.

Mine was plastic so it wasn't scratching. You could try to put some heavier duty tape (packing or maybe scotch) on the backside if yours is metal or are concerned with scratches.

I didn’t mean scrapes on the mallet. The part that slides on is leaving scratches on a customers door

@@michaelwall1721 right, I would put some tough thin tape on the back side of the handle where it mounts. So the backside of the handle doesn't scratch the refrigerator door

​@@michaelwall1721any luck with a solution for this garbage design? I have the same issue. Went to install the handles and it scratched up the face of the door above the handles pretty good. Do you have any solutions to this garage product?

I've thought long and hard on this topic. My two cents is that cheaper products (cost to build and quality) feeds both the corporation and most of the consumers. The corporation can continue to sell products year after year and post profits if they are continually selling the same type of product because it's being consumed.... If you only ever had to buy one fridge that company would not be around in the future. And this feeds most consumers because styles change and you can have a newer looking product in your house after 10 years of having the older version. To the consumer that just wants a working product and doesn't care about style or trends: we're pretty much out of luck in a lot of products being sold today that we "need" in order to function in this society.
