Wow, watching the 22 min installation of that awesome exhaust system and then not hearing what it sounds like was so rewarding!
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 7 месяцев назад
Not sure if you’ve ever tried recording an exhaust sound, and then listening to the playback. Unless the viewer has a sound system with a linear characteristic and the volume set to the same level to reflect the recording, it’s pretty meaningless. If you watch MotoGP using the speaker on your phone you might as well be listening to mice. If you’re there in person, you feel every exhaust whine and roar through your skull and chest as the bikes race by. Even the dynamic range of an exhaust from idle to full is a challenge to be picked up by a standard voice mic, and with the compression for RU-vid and others, even if it could be captured, I doubt it would be reflected even in the perfect sound system. So for all those reasons, please accept my apologies for not adding the impossible. There is another video where I’ve tried to measure the sound levels for comparison with stock, and another trail ride video where some of the exhaust sound while riding is picked up.

Yup, something like that... I try not to think about it. On the other hand, I've had two years of holidays cancelled, and even with adding 40% of the bikes cost, it's still about the price of a stock T7, maybe a little less. And though it's not as fast, it's got a longer range, weighs 40kg less, and has better suspension than a T7. The dedicated followers of course help, but I think I'll need to do a few more videos before YT ad revenue pays for a £800 exhaust! I don't mind. I can't take it with me when I go :)

Very nice work, Andre. I liked the weight comparison. This looks like a premium product. I will try to find the Arrow exhaust here in the U.S. I opted for the full titanium Moto X exhaust from H2C. It cost about $400 U.S. That would make the Arrow exhaust about $1200, or more U.S. for me. I wouldn’t mind spending that to offset some of the weight of adding a set of crash bars. Looking forward to seeing your crash bars instal, and the panniers in place. Happy Trails

If you left the dB killer in the Motox silencer , it will be quiet but the stock dB killer is completely incapable of passing sufficient gass for any performance. The stock one , despite being very well constructed has only 8 bleed holes of just over 6mm. A crossectional area of approx 226sq mm. The outlet of the exhaust is about 29mm or approx 707sq mm. Even without taking into account the fact that the holes are at right-angles to the flow AND the much smaller holes will have vastly decreased average flow/area, that restriction of gasflow will not be good for power or quite likely the engine. That much restriction means that the holes act as bleed holes for the silencer chamber only. The temperature in the exhaust system will be raised and also raise the cyl temperature. I drilled my holes to 10mm and added a 12mm holes in the blanked end. The should pass about the right amount of gas, but still break up the sound pressure wave ( not the same things). It would be nice to have seen dyno difference. Big thumbs up from me for weighing things, especially exhausts. Modern exhausts don't usually restrict power much ( if at all) , but weigh a ton. The main reason for changing them is weight loss and accompanying accelleration increase. I would post a pic but youtube doesn't allow that facility. ps I love Arrow exhausts. Genuinely smart design.

Probably a little as it restricts the flow but I guess you’d also need to get more air in, so an airbox mod, and then if there’s and problems with reduced back pressure. Perhaps if you do all, and have an ECU map designed for that you’d get the real benefit.

@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 года назад
Hi, I’m sure it is, though what sort of riding are you thinking of doing? If mostly paved roads and some dirt roads, probably ok. Not sure I’d fancy much single track or Sandy/rocky/technical sections loaded up like that. The Honda OEM rack has a plate that’ll take a Givi box. For others, you’d need a rack and probably an adapter plate. I find it gets sort of snug with something on the passenger seat, but again, it’s down to where you’re riding and where you need to put your backside. Also, getting on and off might be a challenge depending on your height and flexibility. I’d probably suggest considering where you’ll be riding and then doing some test rides to build up to it. If it’s too much stuff, I’d probably lose the top box. The security is nice to have but it’s extra weight high up, far back where you don’t really want it. Good luck!

@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 года назад
Hi Rob, I’m not sure if it has a Canada compliant spark arrester. They aren’t really a thing here (too damp?) so I don’t think they are needed for an exhaust to be road or trail legal. As for repacking, I’m sure you could but I don’t think they need it. I had twin Arrow exhausts on my 2014 Speed Triple 1050R and had no need to repack it up until when I sold it in 2020. I would think that a 130hp 1050cc triple puts more heat and force through the packing material than my CRF300, so I guess it’ll be ok. It might be worth asking the Canadian Arrow importer about compliance, as they might know more. Thanks, Andre

Just got planning permission to replace the cowshed though.... that'll be the new motorbike room/studio and will be waterproof, draughtproof, and might even have heating if I'm allowed! Probably won't get built until next year, but I can dream. Might even get a bike lift in the floor if I'm lucky!

Hi , great info here. i have a question. your moto x system had steel header pipes, and the arrow is all titanium. there was a 700 gram difference. moto x also does a full titanium system still at half the price of the arrow . any idea what that wheighs? i am guessing it would close the gap quite a bit...

I think the header and link pipe on the Arrow are steel, and just the silencer is titanium. (If I said otherwise, I was wrong) I’m not sure what the all titanium MotoX weighs, I think it’s a bit of a saving, however I’m not sure what grade the titanium is. The end cap of my MotoX started melting after a week and they weren’t interested in doing anything under warranty. It was quite a big step up in price to the all titanium and it wasn’t worth it to me. I’m sure some folks have one though.

the price is so good i am trying to like the moto x but in the end i think i am going with one of the premium brands . better to be safe than sorry.

Hi André, thanks for doing this upgrade, I know it's a while ago, but my stock is rotting away and the arrow seems the way to go in the UK, noise and cat etc, any regrets with it after the time you've had it?
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles Год назад
Hi Steve, None whatsoever. Maybe still a little on the price 😁 but that's the yorkshireman in me! With the cat in, it's homologated to have the same response as stock, so I haven't really noticed any change in power or where it's made. Top speed is similar to stock. It's also fairly quiet and I can pass horses on the road on a little throttle and they don't really notice me, and also sound ok (but not too loud) opened up. If you need a replacement, it's a good weight saving, and maintains both emissions and noise levels.

@Peak Motorcycles brilliant, that's more than enough info, that's exactly what I'm after, I wasn't sure what homulagated meant, I wasn't expecting more power (although I would never complain lol) just as long as it does the job and sounds sociable, lots of people seem to regret buying others just because of the noise. Thanks again Andre, as always. Top bloke!

@@steveh100 I think homologated means it has the same flow profile as stock, so as long as you’re not expecting a performance improvement (other thank weight) then it’s fine. No noticeable difference, but it is homologated so it should be the same as stock. Just a few kg’s lighter.

Hi Raki, it’s an Abba Skylift. They are a UK company that now sell in the UK and the US.

No remap, though I don’t think there are any remap options available for the UK/European ECU yet. I know the ECU for the rest of the world can be done, but we are still waiting.
@Bruneello
@Bruneello 2 года назад
@@PeakMotorcycles for the UK / EU ECU you can use an EJK controller, they now have a version specific for the 300L/rally
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 года назад
@@Bruneello thanks, though that’s a fuel controller right, rather than a remap which changes the ECU software? I don’t think you can remove the jerky throttle with an EJK. The Arrow is homologated so should have the same back pressure characteristics as stock, so shouldn’t need any changes.
@Bruneello
@Bruneello 2 года назад
@@PeakMotorcycles yeah it's a controller, it enriches the fuel mixture especially at low rpm and is reported to solve the jerky on-throttle response since because of EU5 the 300L runs very lean on low rpm and low throttle angles even at stock configuration. Also the added bonus is that being a bolt on part it can be removed at any time for the periodical technical inspection

Separate video? I do find exhaust sound videos difficult though. So much depends on the audio equipment someone uses to watch it. If it’s a big home cinema sound system with a sub, it probably sounds amazing. The same clip played through the speaker of a cheap smartphone sounds terrible and I have no control over how people watch.
