Dear, sir, I wish to send you a big THANK you for your very good review of the chosen equipment you use during your hike, and I like your detailed explanations and descriptions very much! Please stay healthy and safe in these perilous times of Corona risk! Wishing you all the very Best!

17 lbs "Little bit heavy pack" ... I have much to learn about hiking light :) In the military, a standard pack is between 50lbs-100lbs. I am used to trekking and rucking 20km per day or more with bags like this... Just beginning to scratch the surface with what can be done trimming 20% or 30% weight. Thanks for taking time to make these videos!

Oh! I see you have a lot of your own experience with many backpack models. I just watched yours video with SD Flex Capacitor. Could you compare in a few sentences Klattermusen Raido vs SD Flex Capacitor, looks like a similar category of backpacks. What I am most interested in, is the balance, and how you feel when carrying about 10 kg over longer distances. If you have decided on Raido, what is the significant advantage of this backpack over Flex Capacitor?

This is an interesting semi-lightweight backpack, I feel like a bridge between traditional models where ease of carrying and reliability is a priority and ultra light backpacks that do not have a frame and need to be packed very skillfully to achieve complete pack stability. In this backpack I like the proportions, long back, flat bag shape with scaled side pockets and adjustable carrying system. The first thing that is noticeable is the complete lack of compression straps. This is really surprising. I like to have my equipment very tightly packed, it affects the balance. It would be nice if they added extra thin compression straps. Now, it seems like they need to be bought quickly. Thank you for sharing your observations.

Arkadiusz Jan Zbiżek yes.. it’s actually a fantastic backpack, I just don’t think they will find a market for it. Its one of the better fitting packs I’ve used, just superb. It’s going to be a main pack for me for sometime regardless of weight. Just at the price and confusion about weight and market... nja.. I think it’s going to be really hard to market

@@Backpackinglightse The market is full of backpacks, companies release dozens of models every year. It is characteristic that everyone copies each other, it is not even inspired anymore. They can't stop themselves from introducing solutions that the competition already offers. Everything is over-designed. Flexible mesh, too many zippers and pockets. Companies give up developing their own ideas instead of gradually improving them and going their separate ways. Uff ...every season everyone offers almost identical ideas, it is difficult to find models that offer a fresh look. RAIDO draws attention with its design discipline. The target group for this company are the mountaineers, there they are known and have a very good reputation and this backpack is for long distance walkers - this is a different market, not so popular in Eu. Price, 400Eu - here we can look for models from small manufactures, custom made of X-pack or Dyneema. I understand your doubts about the success of this nice backpack.

If I wanted to go hut-to-hut cross country skiing from Abisko to Kebnekaise and back on the triangular route would the Raido 38 be up to the job?

You got me laughing with your joke about outdoor brands making choices for cost that hold back innovation.. Sad but true

Thanks for all the valuable insight. Can we shortly talk shoes here? I guess you are using some Altra trail running shoes without any GoreTex? Why not use "boots with a membrane" to protect your feet from the cold and soaking environment? Don't your feet get terribly cold?

Reto Baumann well on this particular trip I would have brought my North face goretex hightop trail shoes.. but I couldn’t be bothered to go home and get them after leaving my office. So it ended up being trailshoes. It’s not that bad, always the worst until your feet start to warm up, takes about 2 kilometers before that happens. No real problem. Had it been colder, say -10 and snow, then I would have had boots.But it was a relatively dry and warm trip during the daytime until the snowfall

I see that the size up Raido backpack 55l weighs little more than the one you have and a cost about the same. Why did you choose the smaller one please? Would you guess the 55l would compact okay if used as a day pack with very less gear in it? My aim is to find one that will do both too camp and then on smaller walks from the camp and back.

Do you need some kind of fishing license to fish in Sweden? What is the lowest temperature you only used only the Sarek Gear 5ul and at what temperature do you leave the Thermarest Uberlite at home? I've read the tent uses newly Nortech T-NY 7D does it do much or more for cold insulation? How much insulation would i loose with the Climalite Full Zip vs the Cumulus Incredilite? Hope these questions are ok i have zero experience with hiking in low temps.
@Backpackinglightse
@Backpackinglightse 4 года назад
Yes.. every water system has a new liscence that needs to be purchased. Sarek 5 can keep me warm down to around 0. I don’t leave uberlite home.. I need the comfort :) I think the ten worked just fine. Kept me warm and cozy. But no tent really offers warmth and insulation. Cold temps isnt really an issue as long as your prepared. I wasn’t really prepared for the snow or minus degress, but I had the equipment with me anyway and I slept warm and cozy. In cold weather it’s important to give a margin of error in planning. Ultralight isn’t the most important factor when cold weather camping - light, warm and safe is. You can ultralight winter camp, but base weight will still be higher than a summer base.

Permits are generally needed to fish in rivers and some lakes but not in the sea
