Great review David! Hey I use a foot switch to control the beat buddy and then put the pedal itself on a little tray attached to my mic stand. Works a lot better than bending over after every song to turn the knobs. Give that a try!
Much appreciate your live-sound impressions as a solo acoustic performer! :-) I‘d be using it solo or in a duo, like you, and really want a system that can work without an extra mixer and be controlled by iPad, so this may be the one. Stumbled upon your video while checking out the newish HK Audio Polar 10, which also impressed me a lot, but has a crippled mixer with too few inputs, no reverb, no app... Then there‘s the RCF Evox Jmix8, but the sound didn‘t grab me. Your samples of the Evolve make me confident this is a system that might fit my needs, also as a BeatBuddy user. So thanks a million!
Excellent review! Thanks so much for showing the app and how easy it is to use. I'm seriously considering getting the Evolve 30M but I only wish that it had the same Ethernet capabilities as its higher 50M brother in order to seamlessly connect 2 of them to create 1 large system..
Are you using the Acoustic Guitar preset in the 30M’s mixer? I just got an Evolve 30M and the Acoustic Guitar preset doesn’t sound great when testing it alone in my garage. But maybe it’ll mix well when I hear it together with the vocal half of the duo.
Nice overview, David. I have an Evolve 50M and it has been mind-blowing: just great! But I was wondering about app security: is there a layer to prevent other people with the app from changing settings while you're busy entertaining? That would be the only thing I would to see to improve (and maybe a hi-pass filter)
I currently own 2 Evolve 30Ms and was looking to add a sub for more low end. I mainly play EDM and house, so I was looking into either the EKX-15SPs or the 18SPs. Does anyone have any advice on which one I should get and if I should get 1 or 2? Crowd size would be between 50-200 people
what drum pedal are you using? Do you have any feedback issues with this column array, maybe allow me to explain why I ask, I understand that with these column arrays, feedback is alleviated a bit because the size of the speakers in the array, but I have heard some comments about this particular array having quite a bit of feedback?
Hey Marvin - Like any speaker, it's best if they are placed to the side of any mics, rather than directly behind. I haven't had any issues with feedback. I'm using the BeatBuddy drum pedal. It's great!
David, two questions if I may: 1) the vocal effects from this video- is that built in or were you using another system? 2) the harmony- what system were you using?
I think the Evolve 30m would handle an electronic drum kit the same way it handles the Beat Buddy in this video. It’s really just drum samples either way, as far as the 30m is concerned.
Nice video (are you Richard Gere in disguise?) Anyway, the thing that steers me away is having a mixer. I so prefer to use a stand alone and total control of the most important thing - vocals. So, I'm wondering if the cost for an onboard mixer jacks up the price? Nice playing and singing and a cool room too!
Thanks for your kind words! It's possible to use a stand alone mixer. I use the EV app and the mixer is on my phone or iPad. As for cost, I've found that the 30M is the best value on the market. It's got unmatched sound quality for less than the competition.
@@cravermusic I'm gonna it a try. I'll lug (nice in comparison to 2 QSCs). to a few jobs and determine if I can live in mono, for a while. I'm thinking I'll impressed enough to buy a 2nd down the road. It really is impressive and top notch quality design.
Can you also control whatever you control on the app on the box itself? I'm worried about this PA becoming crippled when EV no longer supports the app for newer devices.
Nice video! I’m personally on the fence between this and the Bose L1 Pro8 which sounds great, is a little cheaper but may not have the most secure column connections. Curious if you are still liking your purchase? 🙏
Wow, this is EXACLTY my question too! I'm between the 8 and this. So many complaints on the B connections, but it sure sounds pretty. I believe the EV has more mids, not sure
David, quick question: I'd like to use the evolve 30 as both speaker and monitor--- that means placing it slightly behind the mics. What is your experience with placement of the speaker?
I see you are using the beat buddy - but how do you switch beats during your set list when playing live ? nice video , btw ... I've heard nothing but great comments about this EV30.
I just bought this as well but I am not so happy with the sound. What I love --> the app on my phone to control everything, built in mixer, low end is good. But I have not been able to fine tune the system for a good vocal - the reverb is not pleasing at all. It has a lot of built in effects but most of them don't seem so very useful however chorus did make the guitar sound better. Prior to this I owned a Fishman SA220 and it had a very pleasing sound (sold it to get something with more powerful).
I also had the Fishman. The app mixer is the bomb. I've managed to dial in the reverb on the vocals. Play with the various settings and the applied volume. I think the sound is even better than the Fishman. I've had others confirm that.
@@cravermusic I spent the last days using the Evolve 30M and I now love it :) i guess I needed to more tweaks in order to get the sound I was looking for. I also bought the Bose L1 compact and got the Bose S1 pro from a friend. S1 Pro sounded really good for its size but I was not at all impressed with Bose L1. I am sure Bose L1 with the tonematch will give you a lot more controls but then that is another 600 dollars + 50 for the charger + tax = a lot of money. Besides the sound I absolutely love being able to control 30M via the app. I am returning the Bose. The only thing I wish the EV had was the ability to just use one extension pole.
It depends on the acoustics of the space in which you're performing. I like to put the unit about 1-foot in front of me and 1-foot to the side. There's plenty of volume and I don't need a monitor.
OK -- gotta admit, that looks pretty freaking cool. I'd be curious to find out how much "thump" that 10" woofer puts out. If it's the same I get with my B2 cab with my BOSE, I'd really consider switching over to this system as set up looks to be faster and even less complicated. The Bluetooth to an iPhone or Android is icing.
@@solojim I'm Key's as well and there is no way I would go back to a MONO System...imo these should be sold as pairs but that brings in the subject of PRICE...after my post I went and actually had a listen...and it was a HARD PASS from me...and for $2189.00 for ONE DAMN SPEAKER where I'm from...not a chance...basically $4400.00 a pair...they're just not worth even HALF that much
