I have shot Shotguns, on two occasions once in the USA and Once in Europe, First time I believe was the Remington 870, I am English so it's always fun to shoot when I get the chance, I just like the experience, and people are shocked when they hear my Pro Gun views, to me, theirs so many benefits to legal gun ownership that far out weigh the disadvantages that the anti gun side say, glad to support the 2nd Amendment.

Agreed......if one keeps an eye open for Remington 870 police magnum LEO trade in's they are the best Shotgun buy available. Break it down, clean it up; new springs all around and add any bits and pieces you desire. Give it a good dousing of oil, put on the furniture you want and you're good to go. Or ship it off to Vang or Bill Wilson because honestly the money saved by reconditioning the weapon yourself is negligible. I prefer some Wilson parts and some of the Vang comp components and would rather do the work myself.

Hans is a great guy. I'm fortunate to have had a few guns worked on by him. He does excellent rifle work as well. Cody and crew are really considerate and helpful. Why a Shotgun for home defense? Scenario being you on the far side of the master bedroom and the drug crazed felon with a 12" chef's knife standing in the doorway. Which is the most effective tool for neutralizing the threat....?.....9mm pistol or the 12GA slide action scatter gun? John, you always provide us with useful tips and advice......please consider practicing the use of your weapon right handed. Being a proficient ambidextrous marksman is as important as keeping your car doors locked. Thank you for all ASP does for us.
@arieheath7773
@arieheath7773 4 года назад
At that range the shotgun will basically pattern like you’re shooting slugs, if you use the right ammo. Plus it’s easier to shoot accurately than a handgun.
@ASPextra
@ASPextra 4 года назад
Why would you assume I can't run a shotgun right-handed? But then again, as a left-handed shooter why would I not run the gun on my dominant side? I am so confused by your statement.
@WarPoet-In-Training
@WarPoet-In-Training 4 года назад
In my humble opinion, there are multiple reasons to use a shotgun in a home defense scenario. 1, the advantage of a spread gun will make hitting your target a degree easier than a precision instrument like a 9mm. Add in environmental information like if it's dark, having a spread versus single shot is also nice. 2, a person full of buckshot all across the face or chest with lose their interest in the fight far quicker than if they were hit with a single 9mm (assuming you can hit them anyways). If we're talking about crazed druggies, there are far too many videos of people going shot and keep coming. I would think buckshot would have a better chance at tearing up vitals than a single 9mm.
@arieheath7773
@arieheath7773 4 года назад
TargonTheDragon A shotgun will not pattern widely at home defense distances. You’ll probably just get a fist sized pattern. Plus you shouldn’t be shooting at anything in the dark unless you want to put 8 pellets of 00 into your child or significant other.

Wilson Combat is one of the most reputable brand names in the gun world today. Their 870s have one of the highest reputations of any guns on the market currently, worth every penny of the price tag. I would also recommend checking into their ammo, they load the XTP bullet and it is fantastic. I run it in my .380 and I have been very impressed with it in .38 Super, 10mm, and .45 ACP.

Active Self Protection Extra , I respect your opinion. I personally look at diminishing returns. I love my 970 police Wingmaster I got used for 300 bucks. I changed all the springs with Wolf springs, added an improved safety, an improved follower, a sure fire DSF light and a Big Dot front bead. Best set up for Me for well under 7 hundred bucks. If I had an extra 1.5K I would love a Beretta 1301.
@michaellynn7745
@michaellynn7745 4 года назад
They are truly amazing shot guns. As I zeroed mine last fall and pushed the distance to see how it would pattern using 00 buck, I only had one pellet miss at 75'. And that just barely - 2" off the low right of the target. It is a definite fight stopper... Where would any EMT or doctor start to fix up that much damage?! It would be a total mess... While I am always concerned about misses and collateral damage in my house (or anywhere else really), I can live with one stray pellet. Do you think brick on the outside will stop any overpenetration through a few layers of drywall?
@arieheath7773
@arieheath7773 4 года назад
If you’re using 9 pellet buckshot try some 8 pellet instead. 9 pellet loads generally always have one flyer.

The velcro on the receiver is the "side saddle". Rather than a fixed plastic unit you can carry multiple nylon strips with elastic shell holders. You can carry spares like a stick mag in a pouch and rip and replace onto the gun. Can also do things like different colors for non-lethal, slug only, that sort of thing. I run the Esstac units, SKD Tactical has them (hope mentioning vendors is okay).
