Hi Jay Informative vid , just what I needed to see , i too was confused by the chart and owner manual. It would help if Grizzly color coded the chart , like shade to gear numbers and mark them as gear ID numbers

Great explanation from a novice point of view! Thank you very much. That explained a lot. Needed that for my new tool post stem!

Thanks I was confused by the display on the front of the machine myself. I bought our lathe used and it didn’t come with a manual. Watching your video helped make sense of it all.

No, it's definitely not just you - the manual is severely lacking details!!!! I've had my 752 for a little while now, and have turned lots of 20TPI and short metric threads.I didn't realize how bad the metric pitch error rate was until I had to turn a longer thread :(

Recently got the same machine and I have watched most of your videos. I too was confused with the charts etc until I watched this video. Well done Jay and thanks so much, you have explained this perfectly!

Hello, How to get 19 tpi arrangment from thread table?
@jayphilipwilliams
@jayphilipwilliams Год назад
As far as I know, it's not possible. This lathe can cut only the TPIs that are shown on that chart.

jay thank you. i picked up a 11x26 wich is dam near the same thing. im in the process of converting it to 3 phase now then i will mess with the threading but thank you for the video it dose help me out trying to figure it out. check out my videos i got one on that shows what im doing to my lathe i will post a update video when i get it wired up.

You answered your own question. n is the number you choose from the grid on the right.

Just bought the same lathe a couple of weeks ago and was definitely scratching my head. lol. My question is do you run the power feed to cut threads? Also i noticed in another one of your videos you're cutting a Gear Sleeve Extraction Pin. What makes it stop in the same exact place every time from right to left as it's turning the threads? Thank you in advance sir!
@pohanleu221

+Pohan Leu Also when you bought your G0752 they must have changed it as all the gears that came with my G0752 (a) and (b) gears included are all metal now.

+Pohan Leu I'm not sure I understand your questions. I don't how else you would cut threads without the power feed. I guess you could leave the lathe off and just spin the chuck by hand, but I don't suppose there are many instances where you would do that--maybe just on a really small, short threaded section. Not sure about your question regarding the pin I made. If you can clarify, I'll try to answer.

Jay, do you use these same gears and selectors to adjust feed rate when you are using the power feed for cutting ? As in, when you are just machining a surface and not making threads.
@jayphilipwilliams
@jayphilipwilliams 7 лет назад
Yes. Unfortunately, if you want a nice slow feed for a smooth finish, you really have to put a different set of gears on than you would ever use for threading, as the speed for threading moves the carriage pretty quickly. That would be one advantage of a fancier lathe-you'd have the ability to control those separately. Just a limit some of us have to live with!
@brettgodfrey9536

Two modes of operation: (1) turning, and (2) threading. Both involve helical (spiral) cutting. Threading involves one or two orders of magnitude more lateral movement of the carriage per revolution of the spindle than for turning.

So apparently, there's 4 a gears, and 8 b gears? And their plastic. But most of the time its a36 and b40 ? I assume these extra gears came with it, and how hard are they to change? I also noticed in video 3 where you were trying to thread the rod uniformly it was taking the same off the tip each time, even though it was already a smaller diameter than the remaining 75%? also a lot of spring or flez in the rod. Could that be because it was aluminum, and there was to much protruding. It would suck if you couldn't do a full bolt length of threads in one set up. Anyways, your doing a good job. I was ready to purchase mine, but now I'm waiting to see how it works out for you. Lol keep up the good work.

+HOSSMCGILLICUTTI In the previous video where I was threading, I was just messing around. Ignore all of that. If I really needed that much hanging out, I would use a center on the tail stock. The 40 and the 60 are plastic and I don't believe you ever need to remove them. The only important thing about the a/b gears is that you have the right combination at any given time--for example 45/40 or 48/40. I don't think there's really such a thing as "an a gear" or "a b gear." There are just gears. Just make sure the right tooth count is in the "a" position and the right tooth count is in the "b" position for the TPI you're machining.

Thanks j, I didn't realize you would need the tail stock on for just 2-3" but I guess it would stop the wobble. Thanks again and good luck with it

Since it was such a small diameter, you would definitely need some extra support.
