Subtle correction: The CG is silnylon and the WB tarp is 20D silpoly. The silpoly is less water retentive. I have the CG Fortress too and replaced it with a WB Thunderfly in 20D silpoly. They only do 20D in silpoly. The silnylon is 30D.
@@robpelton No prob. Love your channel. And I have the pole mod too. I use a Dutchware Chameleon, but I love the space I get under the tarp with the pole mod when I have to take the setup out of porch mode. The WB rain fly line is fantastic, from the Minifly to the Superfly.
Lol. Just watched the video and was about to note the same. Rob, don't let it bug you. We all get it turned around. 10D, 20D, 1.1, 1.7, SP, SN, DCF, X-PAC, blah, Blah, BLAH.....
Thank you so much !! Very good tips! Above all, I took over the knots on the cords to tighten the tarp right away! I use the Mountain Fly and Mini F. very often and I'm also very excited! You make very nice videos which I have often forwarded to my friends. Thank you with many greetings from Berlin / Germany
Nice job. Good humor and measurements. I have 2 Superflys to setup. Like your suggestions and the fact that you’re a RR guy. Love that hammock! I’m gonna start off trying cordage to my hiking poles but may migrate like you did. Alternatives are good! Keep those videos coming!
John Chrysler, How do you like your Superfly? Did you get a 13’ one? I have an 11’ Thunderfly and don’t think it will work with my ordered RR. Did you look at the 12’ hammock gear Journey?
Bayly Taff still need to set it up, to be honest. I waterproofed the seams then haven’t popped it above my RR. It is supposed to work really well from the videos I’ve watched. I can let you know in a few weeks. Cheers!
haha!! I loved that you kept the outtakes.. cracked me up!! Nice little tip on the tieouts.. Cool.. just bought myself beetle buckle suspensions :) Can't wait to try them out!
@@robpelton Hey Rob..got my RR today..love it!! So question..can you reccomend some good quilts..I'd be looking for 4 season..10 to 20 degree. I have a zlite sol pad but that's only a 2.6 R value..and I have a 15 degree bag..but I'd rather have a quilt..thanks for your help😁😁😁
Wonderful! I do prefer an UQ over a pad. The Warbonnet Lynx is a great option. I do know Loco Libre makes some really good ones for the Ridgerunner as well. I have a comparison vid coming on that exact topic.
FYI, Simply Light Designs makes the one piece tarp sleeves, which I love, and I'm about to receive a customized one especially for my RR and UGQ tarp by Walhalla hammocks.
I have the Thunderfly and I am VERY impressed with it. They actually messed up my order and gave me a Silpoly tarp with panel pulls when I didn’t order the panel pulls. Let them know about it and they were cool with their mess up. I’ll be getting an El Dorado as my next hammock
Good video. Boopers and the sylnylon vs silpoy oops.... Were ya drunk? JK LOL. You forget to mention a bit of peer pressure and a stop at a rest area before ordering. :-) I love mine as well. Especially like it better with the pole mods now. That system is more effective at pulling out vs guy lines and hiking poles in the ground pulling out. Good to see how you attached the pole mods into the loops. I am still perfecting that.
Peer pressure indeed! Good thing I don’t encourage the purchase of new items to friends. 😂. Should be a bit easier for you to get the poles attached as you’re a wee bit taller. Thanks for watching and forcing me to buy it!
Hey Rob. Great vid. Love this channel. Love this set up. I have a Dutchware Banyan. Do you think the mountain fly would work just as well for me. Not much difference in the dimensions between the wbrr and the banyan. Not as many options here in the UK. Sam
I really want this setup with the ruta locura spreader bars and your same setup. What’s the weight of your overall hammock and tarp setup including the dutchware hardware? I’m glad I came across your channel. I really like the tarp mods too.
4lb. 8.4oz. That’s includes hammock carbon fiber spreader bars, straps, tarp, pole mods, stakes and 20° UQ. Not the lightest, but I love it and sleep like the dead.
The mini fly would most likely work. I would just be concerned with the doors not providing enough coverage for the bridge hammock ends. Whereas a gathered end slopes up on the ends, the Ridgerunner ends are lower. If you end up going with the Minifly, let me know how it works! Thanks for watching!
Shug did a video on the Minifly and Thunderfly with a WBRR under them. While it fits under them, I agree with Rob’s question enough coverage. Might be, just depends on what kind of weather you want to take it out in! After seeing this and that video, I think I might try for the Thunderfly.
I am about to pull the trigger on a ridgerunner and a similar tarp, thanks for the videos! Too bad they discontinued the pole mods for the pull outs... How is the 20D silpoly holding up 4 years later? Is it still your go to tarp or have you moved on? Apologies if you covered this in a "future" video.
@@robpelton Cheers, thanks! My RR and tarp showed up last week and I'm testing it this weekend. Looks like Dutch and others have poles available so I will pick some up. Looking forward to your video on the internal pole mod if you end up doing it. Cheers
Haha! you have charisma! Careful how you use it! :) Nice review! Love the pullouts over the spreader bars. I'm not in the market, but love WB products. 1000 miles on the PCT with a Blackbird and Superfly. Latter was great in a driving rainstorm. big enough to answer nature's call in a corner (haha) before breaking camp.
great review; thanks for doing it. Measurements were super helpful, since warbonnet doesn't put them up on the website. Only spec left I'd like to know is how much does the custom 13' weigh by itself without the poles?
Hey Rob, Greetings from Australia. I am new to hammock camping and just organising a RR to be shipped to out here. On the custom page there is a ton of options which are confusing for a newbie. Did you leave centre mods, stakes, tarp guyline, tarpticks standard or is there something there that you recommend too? Cheers.
Hi Peter! Welcome to the hammock zone! I ordered my tarp by itself. I used the accessories from different vendors. Dutchware is where most of my stuff came from. However, Warbonnet has some good options to get your tarp good to go. I do recommend a continuous ridge line though. That’s what works for me.
What do the cool kids do with the doors when they're not needed? With the tarps we use with our BB XLCs it's easy to tie them to one another with a length of really thin (read as: no weight to carry) piece of shock cord. The angle on these doors would seem to prohibit that. Just curious if you or anyone else has any ideas. My first thought is to try the same thing, but connecting the diagonal doors (foot end left to head end right, for example) over the top of the tarp. I expect one could also add some tie-downs, but that would require a bit of sewing and waterproofing after the fact.
Hey Rob, I've watched this video for about the tenth time now, debated the merits of buying yet another tarp, and finally made a decision. My custom 13' Mountainfly is on it way. Thanks for the great video review. Warbonnet Outdoors owes you a favor or two since I'm sure I'm not the only person who was persuaded into purchase their products based on your video reviews (Your previous videos on the WBRR nudged me into Bridge Hammocks in the first place). Do you mind if I post a link to this video to the Bridge Hammock Owners Group on Facebook? Thanks
I really think you’ll like it. The functionality is so so good. Go ahead and post! It’s in that group somewhere. Also, I’m a founding member of that group. Haha. Thanks for watching and feel free to sing my praises to Warbonnet! Lol.
Just curious why you chose the mountainfly over the superfly? Getting ready to put in my order with warbonnet but not sure which tarp to get. Thanks..loving your content..and humor..keep it coming😁
I’ve used a very similar tarp. 12’ Chill Gorilla. It didn’t offer the coverage I was looking for. I now love the 13’ Mountainfly and is long enough to cover everything and I really like the 1/2 doors.
I've decided I'm getting a warbonnet ridgerunner. I just got to decide which tarp to get. So my question is why did you go with the mountain fly over the superfly?
I just really liked the partial doors. Makes it easier to get in and out and it’s saves a little weight. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a 13’ for the Ridgerunner. Thanks for watching!
I love new adventures! Take my vids with a grain of salt. These are just things that I have found work for me. Your mileage may vary. Thanks for the support!
I enjoy the content on your channel. You’ve helped me to decide on getting a ridgerunner myself. I plan to get the Ruta Locura spreader bars also. I plan on ordering the ridgerunner with the double layer dream tex, bugnet and becket suspension with fishhooks. That tarp setup is awesome too, but I’ll be using a tarp I already own for now. According to the website, there is a new corner configuration. Can you offer any additional advice or new info before I place an order? Thanks!
Wonderful! I’m glad to hear the WBRR is on your list. I too saw the new mod and fabric. I have no insights yet, but I do plan on ordering a new one this winter. Thanks for watching!
