I have the elongated pro power and love it. Ive been playing pb for about 3 months with a little tennis and pingpong back ground. I started with the Vetic prism elongated (great paddle for 100.00) and decided since ive come a long way in 3 months playing 15 hours per week and finally playing with intermediate and advanced players, that I would splurge on a good paddle. Im so glad I got this pro power elongated. I thought after seeing the reviews that it would be too much for me, but its not that bad. I like that it doesnt have the bulky edge plastic. I have plenty of control with it, has a nice pop when needed. I added a little bit of lead tape on each side.

Thank you for your time and posting. I checked the paddles out. It is difficult to believe that a $275 paddle comes with an absolutely cheap handle grip. So add another $12 for a good grip.

UPDATE: So I received my new GB Pro Power Elongated yesterday took the clear protective wrapping off the grip, and put it on my very accurate Hario gram coffee scale that I check weighed( 200g brass check weight) it was 223 G which is 7.866 Oz. It was in perfect condition Quality control wise, and I took it to the indoor courts and hit around with it, took a lesson on 3rd shot drop technique and placement with the local pro with it and then hit some singles with it. All bone stock. It did not feel in any way over powering, it was nice and quiet, swung well, and seemed to have a decent sweet spot. No alarm bells went off with it in my hand, the spin was nice and quick as well. The soft touch seemed to be there too. I have GB protective edge tape and lead weights as well as an GB overwrap coming tomorrow so I will apply the overwrap, and protective tip tape but hold off on the lead. So far a very nice paddle . BUT now the nagging thing in my head....is it an mis marked control paddle( I doubt it) but it doesn't seem to be a ripper like everyone talked it up to be and then some said they think they got a control paddle instead of the power...seems a tall order to mis-label a paddle.... IDK without trying multiple ones.

This is really fair. Even from my point of view it's overwhelming. I have to stay on top of every little detail and really weed through all of the BS to make sure I provide value for all of you. All of that said, these really are innovative. I'm a defensive minded player who's been using Prokennex Black Ace for 8 months and loves it. I'm really comfortable with it in most aspects of the game but I would really like less pop when it comes to defending against powerful drives. Would the Gearbox Pro Power give me enough less pop or would you recommend the Gearbox Pro Control? Thanks!
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 10 месяцев назад
I would go control 100%. Both of the power models have crazy pop. The fusion is a touch more controllable in pop but I'd say the Fusion power will likely match what you're using now and the elongated power will be more pop than what you're using now. You'd be fine with either of the Control paddles it just comes down to shape and how much power you want :)

I have been playing with the Control elongated. I’m a 3.9 player justing starting to play in 4.0 competitions. Three of my peers have set aside their power version , one went to the control version. I will not be using my gearbox paddle in my most important games. I have found that the paddle is “directional” ( works best on serving like swing paths) and most importantly the response of the ball changes drastically as the ball is “mis-hit” to any degree off the center of the width. One acquaintance has been unsuccessful in trying offload his elongated power version for $200, in spite of several players using it generously. Try to buy a used one is my advice ….

@@stspickleball good point to share. The one I borrowed was heavily weighted , maybe as much as 9 grams a side. Certainly 6 each side. That would too head heavy at NVZ line for me in the long run. One fortysomething 4.5 ish player I know is killing it with the top spin on the power version. The only player I know that has mastered the power version The most disappointing characteristic is that the sweet spot is so different from the 1.5” perimeter. That perimeter dead zone is roughly 40 percent of the paddle area . What makes the paddle great fun for recreational play, facilitates a dud on a off-center hit.

What’s the deflection (dwell time) on these? The increased deflection producing a “trampoline effect” is the whole reason that EVA foam is not legal in play. Just curious. It’s different than EVA foam (though apparently trying to use the same principle). Is it passing the PPA standard paddle tests?

What is the difference between the control and power fusion paddles. According to pickleball studio their spread sheet has the control fusion has more power than the power fusion which is odd. I like power paddles but if the fusion control is just as powerful as the power paddle then why not get the control if it has the same power?
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 10 месяцев назад
It’s close but it 100% does not have the same power as the power fusion. It feels way more plush off the face.. the power fusion is far more rigid and poppy. They did a really good job at actually making all 4 of these paddles feel how you think they would. From elongated power being insanity power to the fusion control being very cushy and plush. And if you do decide to snag one definitely use my link! It helps a ton to keep my channel going. ❤️

@stspickleball
@stspickleball 11 месяцев назад
The elongated paddles definitely feel stiffer and more head heavy. They work really well for drives and serves, but overall they are generally harder to control. If you're a banger I'd go elongated but if you want more of an all court paddle the fusion shapes are the way to go. Way more maneuverable and light, and still have plenty of power and pop with the technology provided here to get the job done :)

Thanks for the review! The other reviews I've read say the Fusion plays much better with lead, so I'm curious if you played the Fusion strictly stock or did you also try it with lead added? Also, thanks for the info about the Fusion Power being Rafa's paddle of choice. Do you happen to learn what his setup is, for example, does he add lead and/or overgrips?

No lead for Rafa. I am experimenting with and without lead. I know it doesn’t add much swing weight, but it does add weight and I used to love heavier paddles but these days I’m almost preferring stock a lot of the time. I will continue to experiment for sure. For now I’m between stock and 1 3” strip of lead tape at the 4 and 8 o’clock positions. 2 strips made it a touch heavy and almost just added too much power for me.

I have been using the pro power elongated for about 3 weeks now playing about 3 days a week. And I understand there's a break in time but the paddle just isn't for me. I have been using elongated paddles since I started playing 4 years ago. I have always played with 16mm as well. This was my first edgeless paddle and I honestly just didn't like the feeling of it. I just felt like there were these inconsistent feeling on the face around the edge I didn't like. I also didn't like the feeling during speedups at the kitchen. I felt like the paddle circumference was a little small and I seemed like my hand would shift a little on my drives. My main paddle at the moment is the Volair Forza and I have had that since the release. It has a of 4.1in appose to the 4in. I think the Volair has a more octagonal handle as well. The Gearbox is a good paddle and I do believe it will start the next generation of technology for paddles. A lot lot of people love it. It just isn't the paddle for me. I'll probably wait and see what some companies like Volair, Six Zero and other companies do with some new technology.
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 9 месяцев назад
I agree with this honestly. I do still think lead tape helps this paddle tremendously. So definitely give that a shot. Even try adding more lead than you usually would to help the stability. But I am way more consistent with my Mach 1 forza 16mm. I pulled it back out of my bag before doing my top 5 video and just fell back in love with it. It’s just so consistent for me and every shot I hit with it I can place exactly where I want it to go. Just works.

It’s a VERY different feel. The power paddles are firmer and more powerful for sure. The elongated control and the fusion control have more of that plushness. If you’re happy with your 16X it’s a lot of money to upgrade. I think personally the fusion power and the fusion control are better, the elongated power is hard to control and a little wild, I don’t really personally understand the hype around that one, and the fusion control is solid but I prefer the fusions for sure. It’s hard to say what to do 😂 I’d say if money isn’t an issue and you want to try the new tech and experience the hype definitely check it out, if money is tight or if that’s a hard pill to swallow I would stay put especially if you’re happy with your current setup 😊

Keep in mind the Elongated Power paddle is extremely powerful and poppy. I love both of the fusion paddles so much. Just my opinion! :) And if you'd be so kind as to use my affiliate link that would be awesome!!!

I play 5.0 pro. I use the Engage Pursuit Pro MX 6.0. Tremendous paddle for power, but I was a professional tennis player and generate a ton of power easily. Great for resets, dinks, and drops. Best paddle on the market IMO. I tried the GB power pro elongated today. Not even close, the Engage Pursuit Pro MX 6.0 is way better.
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 8 месяцев назад
@@bart1476 it’s definitely way more stable. I’d say it’s a better all around paddle potentially but the GB Pro Elongated when broken in does have just some insane EVA like power off the face. Almost seems unfair in some scenarios. But it’s a far less linear of an experience.

@stspickleball
@stspickleball 6 месяцев назад
All of these gearbox paddles tend to be a bit high on the swing weight value so I tend to just put 2 3g pre cut lead strips at the 4 and 8 o’clock position for the fusion and just call it good. Could also try 5” of 1g per inch lead tape starting one inch out from the handle and going up the throat into the sides of the paddle.

It’s tough I’ve kinda just dealt with the twisting and lack of stability without adding weight. I go back and forth. I’d say experiment. Recently I’ve just been valuing hand speed at the kitchen so much I’m trying to keep my swing weight down a bit.

How would you compare the feel between the fusion power and the grvn 13s?
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 11 месяцев назад
Fusion power is like the GRUVN MUVN 13S on steroids (AS FAR AS POWER GOES). I capitalized that because it has no where near the control capabilities of the MUVN 13S. It's way more poppy and powerful and rockets balls off the face. It's hard to control and takes a long time to tinker and hone in on. My personal favorite paddle after a ton of analysis is the fusion control, it's just a damn good paddle and wonderful in all scenarios. They really are different paddles though, if you want something very control oriented and linear I'd go MUVN 13S, if you want something really well rounded and all court with more power and pop and great touch go with the fusion control, and if you want something wildly powerful and poppy go with either of the power paddles. :)

The power version has stiffer rectangular carbon fiber channels inside, from the video. Otherwise, the specs are nearly the same for each type.
@stspickleball
@stspickleball 11 месяцев назад
Exactly what @sbinsdca said. A stiffer form of carbon fiber in the core for the power and a softer form of carbon fiber for the core on control. I like the other 3 a lot and they all work so well for what their purpose is but the aggression on drives and serves is pretty wicked and also the pop for hand battles is crazy with the elongated power. Ordered the Gearbox Pro Fusion Power and was hoping to love it. The paddle surprisingly has great control and lacks power. I dont know if its labeled wrong or what the deal is. My friend also go the elongated power and felt the same thing. Both of these paddles were put right back in our bags. I play with the Joola CJ Scorpeus currently. Several people I play with even commented on how much slower my serves were playing with the Gearbox. I personally dont see any advantage playing with either the Fusion or the Elongated. Lucky I got my paddle from Pickleball Galaxy and they have a 30 day play guarntee. Yes even on Gearbox you can return them. Needless to say this paddle is getting returned. It’s very interesting you say this. It seems this is a very common issue. Some major quality control issues. I received my pro power fusion a few days ago and the weight is less by 3/8 oz and it seems underpowered from what the reviews state. I have found several people saying the same thing as well. My brother purchased the pro control fusion and he has cracks on the outer edge of the banding. Are you hearing anything from Gearbox about this quality variance? I am going to play with mine for the next two weeks, to see if it is just me, but might return it before the 30 days. Another question, is there any way to reduce the handle circumference, I have been playing with the gearbox gx5 with a grip of 3-5/8 and I like that handle a lot better. I have rather small hands.

@@MrStrangjl If you're using an overgrip you can take the main grip off and just use an overgrip but other than that not really on the circumference. I may have to make a dedicated video on it to be honest because it's a bad look for me when you get a paddle and it doesn't play how I described also :( I am so sorry about this.
