yes but hicham didnt run 5000M as often as gebreselassie. hicham focused on 1500m. if hicham had focused more on 5000m his PB would have better (than 12.50). but combining 1500 and 5000m is difficult. so hicham did the right thing to focus on 1500m.
It is indeed, but it's interesting to see somebody that has held the world record in the marathon, give the mile record holder a run for his money in his own event.
fat cat what you said is absolutely true and which most people are not aware of , most runners that ran good times after all guerrouj it’s only because he was their pace maker , they would have never ran those times in races of their own , for example when lagat ran 3:26 and change when he came second to el guerrouj , he would have never dreamed of running that time if it wasn’t for el guerrouj
Donkey Kong You missed the point. Geb was a world record holder at 5,000, 10,000, and 42,000 (26.2 miles) yet it takes the premier miler in the world at that time a world indoor record to beat him in a ONE MILE RACE. Does that confuse you?
@SpecialKrunningman True, that is impressive, but this is only indoors. Outdoors his personal best is slower than his indoor best! That hardly proves Geb was better; Hicham ran 7:23 on his first 3000m and 12:50 on his first 5000 (at age 28; Haile's best at that age was 12:57). And you also forgot to consider that the way Hicham has run has dragged people to fast times: 6 of the top 10 have set their personal bests at 1500m in 2nd place finishes behind El G, not to mention Noah Ngeny's mile PB.

@SpecialKrunningman At the same time, El Guerrouj achieved something never did: an Olympic gold medal, and did it in a way Haile (and a plethora of other athletes) failed many times to do: outkicking Bekele. They are close for sure, so I wouldn't favor one over the other.

جبراسلاسي اسطورة 5000 و 10000 لكن شبه مستحيل ان يواكب ايقاع 1500 القاتل. الكروج ينطلق في 600 متر الاخيرة بالسرعة النهائية المبكرة بإيقاع رهيب بينما انطلاقة هايلي تكون ي 200 متر الاخيرة..
Haile run from 1500 to marathon and set records to all of them at a certain point and he still have the record for marathon. The comparison is just laughable.
@@onsenfout1316 what kind of question is that , hicham was strictly a 1500m and miler until 2003 when he started entertaining the 5000m to get himself ready to win the double in the 2004 Olympics .Haile wasn't a strong cross country guy either , the only one who was able to dominate in both cross country and track was Bekele and he was beaten twice by elguerrouj !!

Er hat im ersten Teil nur über Haile Gebreselassie gesprochen, obwohl er gar kein Favorit war und obwohl seine Zeiten über 1500m weit zurück liegen hinter denen der El G. Und 3. erzählt er von irgendwelchen Spannungen zwischen Athleten aus Afrika und Nordafrika, wovon kein Mensch der Welt weiß, ausser er.

@lambielkwanfan I call Geb the greatest runner, but Bekele is the *best* runner. There's a semantic difference. Bekele's credentials have surpassed Geb's, making him the best long distance runner, but Geb's attitude, his inspirational story, his heart and all the records he set, Geb is the greatest long distance runner. Who cares? They're both unbelievable athletes, and so is Hicham el Guerrouj.
Geb set the world record for 5,000 and 10,000 meters 2x each, and here it takes a world indoor record to beat him.....at 1,500 ! That's called VERSATILE.
@YiftertheShifter1 theres only one way to show which one is better and that proof will never be shown because of the fact that el g is retired. the way u wud prove it is by putting them in a race at 5000 meters. this is because haile being best suited in the 10000 and guerrouj in the 1500 or mile or 3000 it wud be of equal fairness. but the favorite wud be haile on account on his former world record of 5000 meters and 12:39.36
Kieran Perez 3 times El Guerrouj raced Berkele and bunch of other 5k & 10k sepecialists he came on top and outclassed them. Twice at the world championship finals and the 2004 olympics so please educate yourself my friend before talking nonsense!!!!
@@saadel8129 Indeed. People do not understand the endurance and stamina you need to run a good 1500m. Sifan Hassan showed it last year by running a 65min half marathon off of 1500m training
He is the best miler......far from being the best runner. Aouita, geb have far better range. Hell I would even throw Webb in there with 1.43 speed, 3.46 mile snd 27.34. Best miler but not best runner. Distance range creates that
@@johnbowden5226 And Coe was better than Aouita @ 800, 1000, mile and 1500 so where does that leave Coe ? It's all opinions John. Personally I rate Morceli higher than Aouita and ELG.
Bekele is the greatest ever. Still has WR at both 5000 and 10,000 and #2 all time in Marathon with 2:03:02. And he has a three Olympic gold medals. And he won world cross country ... both short AND long races (back to back days) SIX times each! El Guerrouj did beat him at the 5000 in Athens, although it wasn't a fast race .... just tactical with a kick at the end favouring the 1500m runner ... not a true 5000 race. Geb was the greatest of his time at all distances. All three are so amazing ... all favourites of mine throughout their careers.

Geb beat el guerrouj in the 5000m at the 1992 world junior track and field championships. Geb's PR (the former world record) was also 11 seconds better than guerrouj's.
hicham el guerrouj better at middle distance he hold world record of 1500m a mile and 2000m and and 2004 Olympic gold medal for both 1500m and 5000m his the greatest middle distance runner.
Coe held world records @ 800, 1000, 1500 and Mile all at the same time. He also won Olympic Gold @ 1500 @ 2 different Olympics. He was faster than ElG over 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1000 and this is a guy who ran around 40 years ago when the tracks were much slower. Whenever the GOAT is mentioned Coe has to be considered!!!
EL G still beats him. EL G was simply faster and stronger. Look at his two wins over Bekele in 2003 and 2004 at 5000, a distance he didn't dedicate himself to.
