+chuckobscure personal view of course Rush always no 1 for me but, as one rock fan to another, Zep are definitely up there Geddy and Plant similar in early days - few can match their shrieks from the 70's 🎸
Rush, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, Neil Young, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac.... There's lots of great great bands. You go into a rabbit hole listening to Rush. Then loop back around. The only thing that Geddy pisses me off doing is saying Caress Of Steel isn't a great album. At times it's my favorite. Caress Of Steel is a journey. Raw and nothing like it up to that point. It's fantastic. Geddy needs to admit it!!!
@@Greg-io1ip Caress of Steel is a wonderful album to me too - think it failed commercially and has bad memories for the guys; love Alex’s guitar playing and love all of it, particularly the Necromancer; I have a deep love of it since I first heard it. There are a huge number of wonderful bands alright, no denying that at all and listen to a LOT Rush my no 1 though
Finally....a host who asks fun and interesting questions, and a guest who gives thoughtful and intelligent answers. Neither Dan or Geddy tries to dominate the conversation. What a breath of fresh-air waves. Spirit of Radio.
What a great interview. Geddy Lee is the best - but Dan Patrick and his crew really made this one something unique by asking the coolest questions. That's gotta be such a relief for someone like Geddy who's answered all the usual rock'n'roller tripe a million times. Great job, guys!
Speaking of Randy Johnson, he was at the R40 show in Buffalo. I was about 10' from him as he was snapping pictures of the show. At first I couldn't believe it was him!
Geddy doesn't just collect baseballs. He's got one from each of Johnny Vandermeer's back to back no-hitters. That's aggressive collecting. Well done, By-Tor.
I would venture to guess his collection is worth several million dollars. And he donated numerous signed balls to the Negro League Hall of Fame Museum in Kansas City. Geddy is a righteous dude.
Wow, long time ago, but still one of the best interviews of Geddy I’ve ever heard in MANY years. Hard to believe your answer to future Rush shows, unbeknownst to anyone, was already cast in stone. Well done Dan and Paulie. Long live Rush.
+ronleon62 Geddy is probably tired of talking music and glad to be talking baseball. Through a couple degrees of separation I have a contact with Steve Vai and I know for a fact that he's tired of talking music, with an exception being made for Frank Zappa.
As a Red Sox and Rush fan, you've just GOT to love that he's not only one of the best bass players playing in one of the best rock bands, but he's also a top-notch true fan.
Alex Lifeson has said they are probably done with big tours but are planning on doing some anniversary tour. Also, there was talk of a new album! So we will see!
Neil quit once before, so is about the only hope we have. Have read that Geddy and Alex are open for other projects, not gonna do Rush without Neil. Best Band in the Known Universe.
Out of all the interviews I did on my cable show (Megadeth, Blind Melon, WASP, King's X, Primus, Vince Neil, Brett Michaels etc.) - 'The Metal Mike Show' - I never managed to reach Rush. 😐 "sigh"
Great interview Dan. Rush fans always so proud of Geddy, Alex and Neil (RIP). Also belatedly: Condolences to Geddy over losing his mom recently. She was an amazing and good mom and citizen of humanity. Just listen to Geddy if you're not sure. Follow your passions Geddy, but enjoy your free time too. You've earned it! Just stay healthy. Rush fans still need you both!!
If only Dan probed Geddy about his battery mate in Arlington, Alex Lifeson, who apparently charged the mound after Geddy threw the first pitch. I wish there was video of this.
+Ian Johnson I actually have always believed that Rush still has a few tunes and quite possibly one or three concerts left for their legion of fans......but.....I'm pretty sure that touring is not going to happen again. We can hold out for hope. Love The Ged Man in this interview....as always he was spot on fun! Cheers All
Ian Johnson late response. Alex said not long ago the band is done done. Neil has some health issues preventing him from playing much. But i would say its possible geddy could do another solo album. I thought my favorite headache was pretty good. Idk though his voice is so shot, he may never so it.
That was fun ! Geddy is so articulate and so well versed , Dan was extremely respectful and asked some great questions, a really good interview for both.
