Dankie Chris! My biggest issue was the 510/nipple wasn't tight enough and didn't seal properly causing leakage inside the mod. This also caused the L shape plate to not make proper contact and fired inconsistently, as the nipple was much lower. I was afraid of taking out the plastic as it seemed as if it would break, but I got it right after watching this. Also, for me, the easiest way to tighten or loosen the nipple nut was with a size 11 ring spanner.
I did this same modification a while before you even posted this. I thought nothing of it but definitely noticed a huge difference in performance. I was just like you and applied common sense to the contact theory like you had and it worked wonderfully. I never really thought about it too much and how simple but brilliant of a modification it really was. I actually ordered a new athena just recently and completely forgot but I'm going to do it again before I even fire her this time! Might be a huge increase in performance.
I wanna thank you man. My Athena wasn't firing at all and after watching you video it's working like new, I didn't realize all the extra parts that made up the mod, so again big thanks you brought my mod back from the grave!
10:50 yes yes making that part round will hug the metal better thank you. I just got one in dec.2023. Off the back it has bad contact. Now this mod will live long. weeee. oh. I bent the contact its way better man. wuuuu The company should have rounded off that part . All companies should be aware this way is best.. Im such a geek.
Great video and I experienced much better performance also. I did put die-electric grease on and I think cleaning will become unnecessary now. Also if anyone is getting juice inside (it almost ruined a couple batteries), it's because the 510 plate has no seal under it. Take that nut off that holds the negative plate and push the circular 510 plate off, clean it and put a light ring of rtv silicone on it, put it back together and let it cure about 12-24 hours. It will now not let any juice get in under the plate and into the insides. I always thought it had to be the bottle, but I couldn't ever pin point where, now after this fix I have zero leaking inside! These issues when fixed make the Athena a very reliable mod. Vape on!!
Little late to the party, but the bending metal plate increased the contact surface area, and by increasing the contact area you are lowering the resistance in that contact, and allow more electrons to flow between the contact basically you can compare it to going from a single lane highway to a 4 lane highway. Dunno if it makes sense, but what you are basically doing is allowing more cars (cars=electrons) to drive without causing a Traffic jam (Traffic jam=resistance)
I bought the Athena recently and after just 2 days of vaping off of it alone, it went dead on me. Didn’t know what was going on. Took out the switch and saw the oxidation. Took some very fine sandpaper and scratched it off. Work again but intermittently. Still not like new. So my fix was to just press the button a little bit harder. Now that I’ve watched this video, I’m going to try this modification. You’ve earned a subscription from me.
You improved the quality of the contact (lower resistance which leads to lower voltage drop and then almost the whole voltage of the battery supplies the coils. So more power). at the beginning, the contact was a little surface (higher contact resistance) and then you widen up this surface so you reduced the contact resistance and then more voltage is applied to the coil. You can use an ohmmeter to see this difference before and after the manipulation.
Thanx so much, I only have my Athena for 5 days now and looked for a video for disassembly cause there is so much liquid inside the mod. By following your advice I managed it easily and, wow, there already was a huge black spot on the contacts. I also modded the mod 😉 and it's working great now, thank you so much! Greetings from Germany
Hey bro thanks you where right it works so much better then before, my Athena stop working this morning and after watching your video and do all the things that you said to do and now she is alive and kicking. Thank you
Wow. Thanks so much man. When I got my Athena it works good and I loved it. Then from time to time it felt a little weak and at other times it just didn't fire. So I scratched the contacts and all and it came back to life. I was pissed though. Now I rounded the top of the contact peace just as you explained in then video. It is absolutely NOT in your head brother. Athena has really gone through the roof. Tasts perfect and vapes like hell. Better than ever, better than when it was new. I don't know what's wrong with Geek Vape and I pity all the vapers that do not see your fix and will be just unsatisfied. Thanks again and all thumbs up. You made me happy.
thanks for posting this video. I usually do a basic cleaning on my Athena but was too nervous about taking it completely apart. thanks for showing how to take it apart completely and the mod works great.
Nice video dude!! It helped me a lot with a problem that I had in the 510. I also tried your your modification in the contact and I think you were right, it works better now!!!! Thanks a lot man!!
This improved the contact for two reasons: 1) The one said by Abdelati 2) The contact was made by a very narrow part of the L part, in the border. In that part, the charge is greater, that makes a electric field greater than the rupture field, so it creates this sparks. That provoques a great temperature that creates that spot, that becomes no conductive. When yo bend that, you make the contact have more surface, so this don't happens anymore. PS: Sorry for my poor English, long ago I don't practise propperly hahaha.
Love that I stumbled upon this video! I don't own an Athena, but I'm avid squonker and love how thorough you went into everything. Sure wish more and more reviewers did this as well! Modders for the win!!! Keep up the good work, hope to see more great videos in the future!
Talked about this issue in a vape chat was told to get the other piece grind it flat polish it etc. I dont have the tools for that this has the same result better contact and is way easier thanks so much 👍
I know this is old now. But for some reason I'm having a problem with low Ohms. I'm using Staple Staggered Claptons that should come out around 0.30ohm but im getting closer to 0.11ohm. First build, noob question I'm so sorry.
Bro I want to show you my L shape metal, and the tip just got burnt I think and its like it chipped off a really big part of it on the tip. Thank you so much
My Athena stopped working. I brought it to the shop I bought it from... they couldn't help. I had deducted that the mod was not getting contact from somewhere. I fixed this after almost sitting in dust for almost a year.
Yea buddy. That little hack works good. Mine has the same roundness of the insulator or w.e. just should probably use the right tool for the job tho. 7/16 for the insulator and 1/2 for the 510.
Nice Video, thank you! Better contact is all you did. Makes perfect sense. I worked in the Semi Conductor industry and any way you can make an electrical contact better, it performs so much better?
You are a god man !! I bought this box a week ago and I had the same problem. Your solution works perfectly well ! A bit disappointed about the switch quality bz I was really happy on this mod but hey thanks to you its work back !
Hey man, i have make on the switch point a soldering! That works great 👌 if u polish the switch to much, a copper coloured Metal will appear and the contact is very crap..
ShadeTreeChef i think that is not copper! Its not so havey like it, and if u scratch it out you will get no Power anymore... That is the reason why i use a soldering point 👍
@@ShadeTreeChef-f4c i checked with geekvape about the silver plating and this is there response Luis Lau (GeekVape) Dec 11, 15:38 CST Honey, thanks for your support ,but there's no silver in it.
Make sure the positive pin is tightened correctly and making contact with your posts. Also make sure your posts or clamps are properly tightened. Your center pin might be faulty. I would take it to a vape shop and have them repair it if you're not sure what's wrong
