'Geisha: Flowers of Kyoto' is a short film shot in April, 2012. It depicts the maiko and geiko of Miyagawacho, Gion and Pontocho, as well as the sakura and ume blossom in the Japanese springtime.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful I LOVE:-) the scenery, the blossom, the Geisha, the music goes perfectly with the video. You get a real sense of timeless tradition. Thank you it makes me want to visit Japan.
Excellent editig!! I really enjoyed it. I was in Kyoto end of March 2012 so it made me feel like I was there again. Loved Japan and its wonderful people. Hope to go back soon....Thanks for this wonderful gift
Rose Garden. said:" They entertain men for money". Yes and even then with only the corporate elite or those with a long standing relationship with the Okiya. Its not a vulgar situation, its based on art and the traditional talents of these dedicated women. Respect.
Fukukimi looks a very funny girl. Chikayuki's smile melts my heart, it is so sweet. So nice to see many images of Fukusuzu, now a geiko. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful video.
Comme l'on a envie de retourner à Kyoto en regardant ce charmant film ... Les quartiers de Gion ou Pontocho, la rivière Kamo, et peut-être la chance de croiser une maïko ou une geïko.
the geisha seem to be the embodiment of grace and beauty ,always seem to give a sweet nod to the people around them ,it must be very tiresome but they don't show it .
AThousandTales Thanks for the info. It's me at 1:48 talking to Maiko Fukusuzu. It's reallly interesting to hear that her Erikae was so recent! I would love to see pictures. I have a program from this years Kyo Odori and Miyako Odori so I was going to try and match some of the names to faces. It would be great if you had time to add them though. Best wishes
Thanks for the nice comments. I'm pleased that you like the video. I just returned from another trip to Japan last week and have lots of new footage to edit. I will hopefully be uploading some new Japan videos here soon.
Oh! That's Hanafusa okiya in Miyagawa-cho at 4:59 where the Kiku-sisters live! (◕∇◕✿)... and 1:24 & 6:02 looks like Ayano-san from Fukushima okiya in Gion kobu... (◕ ꒳ ◕✿) You've got some amazing footage here. Real geiko and maiko can be hard to spot...
There is an extraordinary Japanese garden in Paris, France many do not know of. It does cost to get in but is free some days of the year and is very large, authentic, beautifully maintained and excellent. I take people around here on tours or help them do business here and this place is such a joy to show them, they are so charmed by Paris but then to get Japan they go bananas. Uprated, very good clip, really nice. Bless.
In recent years, the number of violations of manners by foreign tourists has increased. Therefore, people in Kyoto such as Maiko are also annoyed. Please do not enter the private land and shoot. Please do not come to Japan if you cannot follow the rules.
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing all that info! I am very grateful. I have been posting pics from the Kyo Odori program on my twitter account (@KikuyaKanzashi) so if you have one also, please feel free to take a look. I plan to post some from the Miyako Odori soon too.
The maiko and geiko are stunningly beautiful. But the influence of western dress has affected their, gait so not one had the pigeon toed floating walk formerly common when these artist grew up wearing kimono. It is jarring watching the indelicate lumbering.

There is a video on the internet where a Maiko from Kyoto revealed what was in her "tote bag" 1. a comb 2. Two fans 3. a veil or head covering used in some dances 4. a wallet or purse where she kept her "business cards" (with her name on it-in Japanese) 5 . a makeup mirror. Whatever else she had in there was apparently private and not for the general public. Applying the white make-up may take up to an hour. She never touches it until she has finished her work and returns to her residence at night.
