Jessica, to be successful do you need to convert the image to half-tone and/or CYMK? I have not had any luck with prints that I have worked with in Snapseed to create high resolution/contrast. So am wondering if it makes a big difference?

I do find it easier to do ones that are both Half-tone and CMYK. My success rate is much higher when I do that. I do have lots of successful prints that aren't but it is a gamble. I think all of these in this video were halftone and I always do CMYK. There are some free apps that can convert to halftone. I hope that helps

Have you tried using an inkjet printer with your settings?

Laser Printers use toner that has plastic bits in it. That’s what repels the paint. The ink in ink jet just lets the acrylic paint soak in.

Will this also work if you have a black toner-only laser printer? I can still convert to CMYK and I assume it will just put down more black toner?

Yes, it will just put down black toner. You can try to run it through the printer 2xs. Lining it up is sometimes a challenge though

I use a combo copier printer called Triumph Adler. It is not particularly great for art prints. It is a workhorse of a printer. I really don’t know much about different types of printers. But others in my comments have recommended the Canon 6030 or Canon Pro 300 as a reasonable option. Also the HO Laserjet 3201 dw Wireless.

A laser printed photo is needed to make it work :)

Not with this method because the toner in the laser print repels the acrylic paint and lets it stay on the gel plate. The rest of the paint gets sucked into the photo printer paper where there is no toner.
