A simple tutorial for creating colourful watercolour backgrounds using the Gelli® Plate and Brusho Crystal Colours. I create several backgrounds then show some finished projects showing how you can use the prints in your card making.

Such beautiful cards. I never think of using brushos on my Gelli plate. It's definitely inspired me to try it.

Thnks, Teresa! This is so helpful. I haven't used my Brushos much at all and I just got a Gelli plate, so I have a whole new fun way to work on backgrounds. You have a great eye for color.

I have been binge watching your videos since finding you recently. I love how your match up your sentiments perfectly with your images and backgrounds. My favorite was the "you are not alone" love how you added the spark in there between the two fingers connecting and I also like how your feathers turned out, that card has a nice boho look to it! Thank you for sharing your talent. Im from the USA

Really enjoyed this video, thank you! Lots of ideas on how to use both the Gelli Plate and Brushos. I haven't used the Gelli plate very much, particularly recently. And I've never used the Brushos even though I bought them a couple of months ago. Time to Play!! 😊

I really enjoyed this tutorial, thank you. I have both Brushos and a gelli plate, but struggled to begin so the ideas have helped enormously. The print you liked least is the one I liked most - people being different in taste makes for wonderful variety - and the feathers are gorgeous. 😃

I just found you, Teresa, and I've learned so much! Two questions: On the alcohol ink, do you have to use a heat tool or can you let it air dry? And on the brush0, what proportion of paint and water do you use? Thanks so much!
@TeresaMorgan
@TeresaMorgan 4 года назад
Thankyou!! Alcohol ink dries pretty quickly so I generally let it dry naturally. As for the Brusho, it's very concentrated colour so I put a tiny bit in the palette and add a few drops of water....add more water to dilute the colour if necessary.

@TeresaMorgan

Thankyou!! I used mixed media paper or watercolour paper to print on, then mounted onto black card to finish x

Great tutorial, thank you. I'm always looking for new ways to use my gel plate or my powders. One question - why use watercolour powders/Brushos over other forms of watercolour media? I've always assumed that if you premix with water, you lose any of the fun colour variations most powders have.
@TeresaMorgan
@TeresaMorgan 4 года назад
I used Brushos because they are very vibrant and concentrated colour, and I wanted to show that you can use them in different ways. Yes, they do create effects when sprinkled dry, but at the end of the day, they are watercolour paint and can be used just like regular paint too.

can you save the reconstituted colors? seal and save or can they be dried and you just reconstitute them when you want to use them again? thanks for the demo - gabriele

The palette I used has resealable pots which keep the paints liquid. If they do dry out, you can spritz with water to re-wet them.
@onnaaddis7983
@onnaaddis7983 4 года назад
was wondering? Did you actually try the sprinkling of brusho on gel plate and spritz water or alcohol before a print. if so what happenned? Couldn't find na answer. tyvm for your show/ Onna

@TeresaMorgan

Brushos are watercolour, so would reactivate to some extent if you got the page wet again.

What is the brusho to water mixture do you use?
@TeresaMorgan
@TeresaMorgan 4 года назад
No particular ratio. Just shake a small amount of Brusho in the pot, then spritz some water in to dilute.
@silkeschumann7261
@silkeschumann7261 3 года назад
Why don't you use liquid watercolors? Brusho is great but more for its explosion of color when used as powder with a spray bottle or sprinkled onto a wet surface. Because Brusho is such a fine powder it can be a pain in the neck when stray crystals find their way onto a piece of paper unnoticed until water makes it explode in color and stains the paper.
@catlink8998
@catlink8998 3 года назад
I've been wondering about this too. I'm curious why Brusho's were used as opposed to watercolors or gauche. If it was to show a different way of using Brusho's I kind of get it. For me, the gradation & range of colors Brusho's have once the crystals have been wet is what makes them so interesting. It didn't seem like that aspect came out when they were fully mixed and used as a watercolor. I'd love for Teresa to shed light on her choice of using them in this way!

How much brusho to water?
@TeresaMorgan
@TeresaMorgan 2 года назад
It depends how saturated you want the colour. You don't need a lot, the crystals are highly concentrated in colour.
