Love that cream! You can get it at drugstores in Germany for 3,50€.

Hi Paul. Great shave as usual .I have enjoyed Speick shaving soap stick for 2 years now. Great scent and slickness. The Speick plant is harvested in the fall each year up in the Alps. Apparently the pronouciation is Shpike. I have a German son in law. Cheers to you both.

Happy Sunday Paul! Mrs. H is outdid herself again. Are those Lily-flowered Tulips? Simply gorgeous! Outstanding example of a GEM vintage razor. That is a fine shaving soap...Speick (pronounced shhpike). Creamy and a unique fresh scent. The razor, blade, and soap has produced a lovely close shave (I can tell by the blood...lol). Last night's shave: 1960's Williams Mug Luxury shaving soap (rose scented) whipped into creamy tallow goodness with a Graydog Spaltted Maple brush with a 26mm synthetic, 1955 Gillette Red tip loaded with a 1930's Williams (carbon) blade. 3 pass plus pick up delivered a close and comfortable shave. Finished with the Thayer's alcohol free skin toner, 1960's Ice Blue Aqua Velva, and Soap Commander Love (true rose) balm. Have a great Sunday dinner with Mrs. H. Take care!

I have that Gem razor Paul, brand new, never used(along with a few others). The instructions say on the top cap is a small circle, "Magic eye", it's supposed to be held flat against the skin. Makes the shave much more comfortable. Most people use too acute of angle, making the shave too aggressive. YMMV. Must try that Speick sometime, seems to work. I tried the Speick (spike) 3 yrs ago for the first time ... after listening to Shave Tank & Mike Baker talk about it. I LOVE it - to me, it has a piney (coniferous) scent - the aftershave & balm is first rate as well. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week!

Have some Speick ..... It's a light Lavender scent... The Speick after shave is very nice ... very good for your skin. I do have the Open Comb Micromatic .. very close shaves..... Great Video as always .... Happy Sunday - Cheers ...

Probably already been said but here in the US Speick cream is around 9 dollars and the aftershave is 15 or so. Both get frequent use in my daily shaves. Also comes in a shave stick that is lovely.

Glad you like it. It's pronounced "spike". The scent is lavander and the alpine " speick plant. Properties: top notch..witch hazel included.

Love my Gems...all 10 of them. You can get atleast 5 shaves from the blade if you wipe it off, then strop the blade on the heal of your hand. This keeps the blade sharp and makes It last longer. It would also be great if you can do a review on the Rolls Razor. Its the closest thing to the straight razor. Basically it's a straight razor on a stick. It even has a built in stroping kit built into the case. The quality is also amazing.

The regular GEM Stainless blades are a bit rough but the PTFE coated blades a joy to shave with.

I love my GEM micromatic, smooth close shaves. I bought it at a flea market for $1.00 !!!!, cleaned it and it looks brand new.

I recently got that after shave.It smells really nice and gives a great feeling on my skin.

Excellent close shave. Btw I remember my dad using the same razor when I was a kid. By the time I was starting to shave he had switched over to a Gillette DS razor (which he lent to me)- a fat boy I think. Unfortunately all of his razors disappeared by the time he retired. Nice shave! I like Speick. It rhymes with spike and like, just with a shh sound at the beginning, so shpike. I agree that it does smell better in use than it does in the tube, and it does have excellent slickness. Hope you're having a relaxing Sunday!

The tube of shave cream in the States is about $8, and the aftershave is about $15. I’ve heard that it’s much cheaper in Germany and the UK.

Paul - another great shave. I pick up some lavender in Speick, which is what adds the uniqueness to the clean, soap scent.

I have a Gem G-Bar Flat top that is in exactly the same "Mint Looking" condition as your Gold Bullet except mine is silver in color. I could not believe how pristine that razor was/is and I paid virtually nothing for it yet have seen others in significantly less good condition going for anywhere from over $50.00 into the $100.00 + plus range. Anyway, after watching you and Mark from Friendship Shaving do SE shaves; that is what I'll be doing very next shave with my silver treasure. ;-)

Great shave Paul. I also own a Bullet Tip and despite how intimidating it may be, it gives a smooth shave! Although I try to use it sparingly as I don't want to get it all dinged up.

Tried the Gem Micromatic wit Gem blade and it tugged and gave me a terrible shave. Glad you had a better result. Look forward to seeing your videos. Hilight of my mid week and Sunday morning.

Thanks for sharing great shave sir I have not tried that cream but I have tried Palmolive in a tube and I love it. It has just the right of menthol in it for me I do love using it have a great rest of the day and we shall see you on Wednesday for the mid week shave

I have a 1930’s GEM Micromatic Clog Pruf razor. I’ll need to use it in a future video. I love the look of yours though, it’s almost brand new. So shiny! The first safety razor was patented by Gillette in 1901, so it actually predates single edge razors/double edge came before single edge.

If this blades were accessible in my region , I would try that razor

There are several articles on it on wikipedia. All the Speick Company products are excellent and relatively cheap. Cheers and all best!

I prefer single edge blades. Because they’re thicker and stiffer, they’re smoother and great for a course beard.

Paul , Nice Video as always and Mrs H. is making Me think of spring time with Her Beautiful Flowers. it is true that the gem was around before the DE but was still produced into the 50s Gem actually was the first to have the TTO . Gem and EverReady SEs still have a good size following to this day. The Razor that you used today is one of the more aggressive of the Gem razors . The 1912 that you have is one of the smoothest and forgiving of the Gem style Razors They all look a little intimidating with the big blade exposure but with the right angle and pressure you can get a very close comfortable shave . I have several SEs but I still prefer The Vintage Gillette Razor over just about every other.

Slipped on bathroom floor, skin`s breaking out, unexpected bill means I`m broke and couldn`t get that Floris Elite shaving soap I wanted, tore a hole in my favorite white shirt and my PC keeps giving me the finger (bluescreen). BUT, I have a date come friday, gonna make a nice dinner today (AND friday), have some wine, watch a movie, shave and relax :) So I still have a smile on my face ;)

Great shave Paul. I wonder if you have reviewed the Feather AS-2DS razor? It's expensive but sounds like quality. I use a Merkur 34 C and wondered about spoiling myself. Great to see a UK / Welsh shave video rather than from US I have a Merkur Futur which I daily shave with for the last 2+ years with Poraso white soap, but just got my 1st 2 vintage razors an Ever Ready 1912 and a GEM golden bullet, yet to shave with them but have some GEM razors, where do you get yours? Great instruction videos for both razors, next vintage is to try and get a good Rolls Razor to try that! Cheers

Hi Paul! Have you ever tried to reapply the pre-shave oil between passes? I do this sometimes, when I use more aggressive razors, and I like the result. I can definitely feel a lot more comfort and protection. I use my left hand to apply the oil and keep the right hand clean to use the razor. Cheers and have a good week.

I've seen GEM blades on sale at Walgreens stores, and I believe they're the only SE blades sold in stores keeping the method of SE razor shaving afloat besides other SE blades sold online. Speick? It's confusing how to pronounce it as I always pronounce it like the word "spike"

I agree that Gem SE razors & blades are really nice. I noticed on the U.S. Personna-GEM website recently that a large number of these type of blades are advertised, and for each the bevel and the potential uses are listed. (It sort of seems that the three-facet blades are good for shaving; the two facet ones for paint scrapers.) But nowhere do the adverts suggest that the blades are useable for shaving. It's a shame that Personna-Gem seems to be so adverse to having it know what good shaving blades they make. FWIW, I suspect that if "Speik" is a German word, it's pronounced like English "Spike." Thanks again for this, and the other, vids.

Nice shave Paul, and another beautiful mint condition razor from Don. 😌👏 I think these thicker blades are good, I was sent a Weck Sextoblade from another fine gentleman in the US, which used hair shaper blades, it's an awesome razor. Interesting what you said about your shaving speed, it just looks to me how I'd expect someone with your experience to shave with an SE or DE. I think the only thing that would slow you down was if you started to use open razors more, as the tempo is naturally slower. Saying that I videoed a complete 3 pass shavette shave in a Facebook group in 5:30 for a bet. 😬 Beautiful flowers LH 😌👏💐

the scent is the same as the plant where the soap is made from, this plant valeria is very good for the skin, I was using for many years this soap, but now I live in mexico , I still don't understand why almost all european soaps are so little in volumen, only 50 grs, 75 grs etc. regards robert

Paul, warning that PAL blade is Not for shaving, the shaving PAL has 009 on the spine and it is black. It looks similar, but shaving Pals are only in Vaults.. do not use that Pal blade

I find all these Speick products to be a bit sticky. Soap dries a bit and becomes sticky, AS and Balm also.. Smell....is a bit strange. They are good products, though
