Gem is my favorite streamer, and I love her so much... So when she is underestimated EVERY SINGLE MCC it really annoys me. Like, yes, her average placement is 29th but that is only looking at SEVEN events, one of which had really bad synergy and the other of which had I her and Grian both sick, I think. Obviously you can't IGNORE those two 38th placements, but when her other placements are 30 & 31 (not the best but not bad) and then 18, 22, and 24 (really good considering the 24th was her FIRST MCC)... So yeah, 29th individual, but ignoring the OUTLIERS you get 25th... Also, when we look at her 3 non-canon events, sure one COULD ARGUE that numbers are elevated by more inexperienced players, but Gem's placements in those are 20th and 17th for the pride events (9 and 12 above her canon average, with 17 being 1 about her canon RECORD) and SHE GOT 5TH IN MCC SCUFFED!!! Like even if it wasn't a canon event FIFTH INDIVIDUAL IS SUCH A BIG DEAL!!! Leaving in her outlier canon scores, but also including non-canon scores gives Gem a 24th Individual Average. When you add False's 3 non-canon events to her 20 canon events, False goes from 27th to 28th individual. When you add Grian's 5 non-canon events to his 16 canon events, Grian's individual placement DOES NOT CHANGE from 22nd. Sure, you can say that False and Grian's don't change much because they have so many more events, but looking at the scores, it makes me think that there is not as much of a skill swing as one might think for non-canon events. I think the issue is like with her "anti-comms" team. Gem (and I think some other hermits) are really comms heavy. I think Gem is on par with A LOT of participants the audience deems "better than her", but she needs good comms to perform well... And what do all the non-canon events have for Gem amazing comms with some of her best friends! Also, you said it yourself. What are Gem's best games? BUILD MART AND SANDS OF TIME, two of the most comm heavy games, along with Grid Runners, which she is also really good at. I'd also throw in Bingo with comm heavy games (and game knowledge). And that isn't even mentioning how Sky Battle becoming the old Skyblockle for Scuffed not only showed off Gem's skill from (3?) Hardcore Skyblock Series, but also AGAIN her amazing sense of communication. I think Grian is just more consistent when faced with worse comms, but Gem (and also False, Pearl, and Cub) NEED good comms to perform at their peak. Anyway, I want to show this idea of comms being a factor by removing a proportional number events from Grian, False, Cub, Pearl, Scar, and Impulse's stats. So, removing Gem's 2 worst games leaves 71.4% of her canon events (80% of all her events)... So I removed the number of worst games from each participant that would leave approximately their best 71.4% (and 80%) respectively. HERMIT--ORIGINAL--NEW+NON-CANON Gem 29th 25th 21st Grian 22nd 19th 20th False 27th 24th 25th Cub 26th 22nd 24th Pearl 27th 23rd 23rd Scar 33rd 30th 31st Impulse 31st 27th 23rd Honestly, Impulse, Scar, and Gem all need more data points, but looking at this data... Gem is still the third lowest of the seven hermits when you only remove their worst games... HOWEVER, that difference between Gem, False, and Pearl seems REALLY slim when you look at it this way... FURTHERMORE, including their non-canon events boosts Gem THE WHOLE WAY TO SECOND PLACE barely behind Grian. (Impulse also jumps but that is looking at only 3 events... He's only been in 1 non-canon and 3 canon, and I removed his worst canon event in the calc)... So yeah... I would argue that Gem is already on par with(or maybe even slightly better than) most of the Hermits... She just needs to be on a team that has good communication.
