I am married to a Greek (I'm from Norway) and have been learning how to cook Greek food for the last few years. RU-vid has naturally been a source of inspiration and knowledge, but for some reason I only came across your channel today. Having watched a few of your videoes for a take on the dishes that I make, I have to say that you are a STAR! Very well done, nicely presented - but mainly, I can see that your dishes are really good! I look forward to using your recipies going forward! Thank you for your lovely videos!
Who needs food network anymore?? They can’t even come close to you!!! New Sub here. I’ve watched several of your videos, I think you are Beautiful, Funny as heck, and so nice!! I love all your recipes!! Your Amazing 😉!!!!
Hello Dimitra..thank you so much for all your recipes. Greek culture is one of the most beautiful in the history of the world. I've been following you at youtube for almost 2 years and I love everything you do. Plaese be safe ..from your loyal subscriber here in Los Angeles. Much love.💞🌹💖💕💗😊
I was surprised when my 75 year old (Greek) dad told me to check out your channel! But I'm thankful he did love your simple cooking! You really break down some of my favorite Greek dishes in a fun and entertaining way! My dad and I will be trying this one tonight! 😊
My wife and I are new subscribers and are enjoying your show very much. Great job explaining everything, very clear. Also well videographed. -Blessings
Great recipe and presentation. I made a quadruple batch of meat/rice sauce and stuffed 18 peppers. Had enough of the meat sauce rice mix to freeze to shorten the process next time. I also had some fresh fennel (maratho in Greek). I chopped it up and put some in the sauce with the other spices. Excellent results. Really like Dimitra's presentations and have shared them with many people who have enjoyed them and had good results.
Hi Dimitra, I love how you cook and explain it so simply. I am married to a Greek in Australia, and would watch his mum cook but she didn’t speak English so it was difficult. I found your site and became an avid fan over the past couple years. Sadly his mum passed away and yours were the go to. Our last trip to Greece I fell in love with portokalopita. Would love to see your take on it please. His mum would make a dish and we had it while in Athens at a relatives (her recipe) it was divine, beef lemonato. She said she learned it from my mother in law but couldn’t write it in English. Any help for those recipes would be appreciated. Most of our meals now are Greek and it seems I do them perfectly. Thanks to you 🙏😊🥰
Back in the 50S and 60's, my Mom had three kids to feed and my Dad. She would stuff every thing, grape leaves, peppers, tomatoes, yellow summer squash, zucchini, egg plant, cabbage, potatoes. If she had any mixture left over she would find something to stuff. You would have love her cooking.
I am half Greek, I do a similar type of stuffed bell peppers and tomatoes. The difference is I don't cook the meat. I just mix the raw ground meat (I add some water in it) with salt and pepper, add the rinsed rice, some herbs (parsley), +/- onion, garlic, then I fill the cut peppers and tomatoes, I pour the same tomato sauce you did, around the stuffed peppers, cover and cook on low heat, on the stove or in the oven. A slow cooker on high works too. I never used potatoes in this dish. And I eat the cooked meal with some full fat, real Greek yogurt layered over the opened pepper or tomato with some of the tomato sauce. I may add some fresh cut dill in the sauce after the dish is cooked.
Hello i love your recipe . I made it today while im watching you video and follow those engredients . I done perfectly amd its so delicious . Thank you for sharing with us
Love what you doing.😀 Love that compost. What can I say all good. I would like to give my own personal opinion red peppers are the best.for this dish. Well done 👍 keep the recipes coming.
You are SO right! Every time I come back here from a visit to Greece, I cannot eat store-bought tomatoes for MONTHS!!! The fresh sweet aromatic tomatoes of Greece are delicious. The only thing that can compare is home-grown :)
I have always wanted to make stuffed peppers and you make it so easy to follow that am inclined to see how mine comes out. Thank you sooo much for your easy instructions!!! I will make sure to use different color peppers SO I DONT HAVE TO LABEL THEM!!! LOL!!! TOO FUNNY, I WAS LAUGHING WITH YOU TOO!!! 😉😊🍷😊
I wish I could cook like you, Dimitra. This dish is so mouth-watering. I didn't know you could include potatoes with it, but that sounds great as well.
I just made this!! It turned out delicious!!!! Although I think 1 cup of rice seemed like abit too much for my tummy ... but my Greek husband loved it!! Thankyouuuu I will try some of your other recipes next! Too bad I can’t upload pics here to show u
Hi Dimitra, I'm learning how to cook more Greek recipes. Your channel is a really big help, I love the different recipes you have on here, very inspiring and they all look delicious, btw, are you a chef cause you have cooking classes i see, thanks!
Thanks Maria! I'm so glad that my recipes are helping you in the kitchen. I'm not a professionally trained, chef so to say... I LOVE to cook! Ever since I was a little girl, I loved it. It also helps that I was exposed to delicious food my entire life. Real food. Homemade goodness, so I know what delicious food should taste like. I just kept cooking until I got it right and then opened a restaurant 10 years ago... All of that experience has given me loads of tips, shortcuts, and foolproof recipes that I love sharing with you all here, on my website, and in my cookbooks :) Thanks for being here! xo
Just had ratatouille and cannelloni with minced pork. Very nice. Bought a flowering plant with lots of buds and one white flower though half the petals were spoiled.
Hey Dimitra, how are you? I was watching your stuffed peppers recipe and salivating as it's lunch time. I'll try your recipe. We don't use dill, only parsley and mint with parboiled rice instead of basmati. This looks mouthwatering! I really have to check out your channel AFTER I have lunch! I love your Dutch oven. Can you please let me know where you purchased it and what's the maximum temperature for the oven? I know some go up to 500 degrees. I wanted a cast iron pan but I think it's too much work or I'm just lazy. Do you have any recommendations for something that cooks great and is pretty big, 6-8 portions( for us it's 3-4)...you understand.🇬🇷🇨🇦 Hopefully they deliver in Canada because some don't. Thank you! Not in a hurry, when you get a chance. By the way, I'm pretty new to your channel. Do you have a compilation off all your recipes so far in one cookbook with food and dessert because I love all your dishes, pita recipes, and desserts. Thank you for your patience in reading my comments(or novel, depending how you look at it). It's ok if you forget something seeing that the list is endless. I'd like to thank you in advance❤️💯😇
Hi Maria!! Thanks so much for watching :) I have several Dutch oven pots and pans. I LOVE them!! They cook so evenly and much faster than stainless steel... All of mine are inexpensive: $60 or less. The 5 quart pots are only around $30 dollars... crazy!! Especially because the well-known name brand kind go for $200-$300 each!! I buy mine from my local supermarket but am always on the lookout when shopping at Marshalls/Home Goods. I just bought a very big one from the company: Lodge for $50.. I love that company. Their cast iron stuff is exceptional and not too expensive... If you buy one, I suggest getting it in the 5-6 quart range. I too, cook "Greek portions"...haha! Just in case someone stops by or for leftovers...lol! I do have a cookbook, but it's full of Brunch recipes.. It's called "The Brunch Table" The ebook is available on my website and the paperback on Amazon :) I plan on writing a big one someday with all of my recipes, just don't know when I'll get the chance. Thanks so much for being here. I appreciate your comments :) All the best!!!
@@DimitrasDishes I checked out Lodge and it looks pretty reliable. Thank you for the information. It's always a pleasure watching your channel, very educational and simple because of your step by step instructions. I used to watch Akis on RU-vid ( from Greece ) but I prefer your recipes. You take your time explaining and it's easier to process.
I have all the ingredients and am about to start this recipe...and I realize I don’t have the right pan. I have something deeper than what is shown...will that work?
Why do you pour the sauce over the gemista stuffed peppers & tomatoes but only put the sauce in the bottom of the pan when you make the gemista vegetarian style. Love both recipes. Just curious.
This recipe looks amazing! I will make it tomorrow. Just wondering, is it okay to add some cinnamon to the meat mixture? Being Greek, my mom used cinnamon quite often in her recipes. Thank you and God bless!
The recipes for each dish are in the description box below each video. My older videos have a link that takes you to my website, but the newer videos have the recipe and the link :)
The worst thing i ever did was try to impress my Traditional English husbands famly with my Greek cooking that both my Yaya & mother taught me from a young age..Im having to have my husbands family around for dinner practically every 3 weeks i cant get rid of them...🤣🤣🤣🤣
delicious recipe except that Greeks never use Basmati rice in the stuffed peppers and tomatoes they use Carolina rice which has been washed first and there is no dill in the gemista there is fresh finely chopped Italian parsley and fresh finely chopped mint
Aww, thanks so much for checking up on me. This recipe was filmed in the beginning and my camera shyness made me look sad, nervous, dead, haha! I might redo these older videos :) All the best!!
