It doesn’t get more extreme than shooting yourself out of a cannon - and human cannonballs don’t get more daring than Gemma Kirby. Initially earning her acclaim as a skilled dancer and then an accomplished trapeze artist, Gemma was inspired to reach new heights of acclaim and set her sights on something more extreme! After seeing Brian Miser, ‘The Human Fuse’ in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey®, Gemma decided she wanted to be the youngest female cannonball for Ringling Bros.® And now, as part of The Greatest Show On Earth®, Gemma has been shot out of a cannon more than 500 times, and she’s just getting started! Let the countdown begin!
Born in Minneapolis, MN, the 25-year-old describes the past few years of her life as “an incredible and unexpected adventure.” To accomplish her amazingly extreme act, Gemma meticulously inspects the cannon before every performance and goes through a detailed checklist of safety precautions. “Being shot out of the cannon is exactly the kind of adrenaline rush you would expect it to be,” she says, “but it is a huge thrill every time, I love it!” Gemma describes herself as a thrill-seeker who has many extreme hobbies such as skydiving, snowboarding, scuba diving and travelling to exotic places.
