We head to Ramsey's Performance in Lutz, Florida to follow this old-school build on a clean 200,000-mile 1995 SVT Lightning. We test with and without the blower, which is an old V-1 Vortech. See what happens next!
I was thinking “that’s pretty old school”. Then I saw the FMU! Lol. My god how times have changed. FMU’s were a staple of every supercharged build back then
Years ago, I almost bought 1 from a Dealership in Killeen Tx when I was stationed at Ft Hood,,but my first son being born killed all that!! I still want one!! Thanks great content!!
Mine had to have been around 400rwhp, I think it was 7 psi 8 rib, Mark 8 fan, Longtubes/side exhaust, shift kit, truetrac with 4.10s, 213,000 stock motor. The original stickers are reflective. The Efan let’s you run a bigger lower for belt grip but also to make boost without revving it out as high. We wouldn’t rev it, the guy that tuned mine ran 18psi Novi 2000 on his that way too. Stock bottom end, we just pulled them to make boost lower in the range.
I have a 94 Lightning with double those miles (386000) and still runs real strong. Never rebuilt no smoke from exhaust, leaks a bit but I kinda want to see how far it will go.. Good ol flowmasters sound the best!
@@sk8editionjosh it will just keep the oil changed. Everything that has failed has given me ample warning, I just replaced the original starter, distributer and the ac system. The distributer was so warn that when you went above 3000rpm it would shear the rotor off...
Love it man! Had a black '93 . Was traded into my dealer in '95 and I bought it immediately ! Unfortunately I totaled it in 2000! R.I.P! Nice plug for my boy Paully at Punisher valve bodies too! I think I started his obsession with the Gen 1 lightning!
Cool! I bought a new 1995 Lightning January 1996. Great truck best 1/4 was a 14.94 forget MPH. Bought a diff roller cam, twisted wedge heads & mass air setup. Installed mass air first. Not good results. Sold truck then bought new ‘96 Ranger. Installed a 5.0 with TW heads, cam cobra intake then a Powerdyne s/c. It made 390hp to tire. Tons of fun total Porsche eating sleeper. On stock 4cyl tires it ran 13.0 @ 110 with zero traction until well in 3rd gear. T5 The Lightning ran about identical times to the new 1979 Little Red Express I bought so many years earlier. Both great trucks.
Damn the sound of that 351 W has me quite nostalgic. I had a 91 F-350 5.8 with high flow cats and a 40 series delta flow flow master exhaust and it sounded absolutely rad!!
super super cool, i owned a black 95 lightning when i lived down the street from Brian Wolfe. the first gen lightnings are the best looking in my opinion. mine had the rear tube bumper. sold it to a ford engineer at the romeo engine plant in 1999 to fun my nmra hot street fox mustang
I have always thought those Gen 1 lightnings were great trucks. Looks great, sounds great, performs great. Wish they would be easier to find and mildly priced.
With stuff like this, I have no doubt now: this is my favorite youtube channel, period. And congratulations to the owner of this beauty... Black, white or red, looks always fantastic (wouldn't been blue a perfect color too?). And that picture of your Lightning with the Fox Body on the trailer must be the best photo in the whole internet. Ford, who else?
Thanks to uncle tony i found your channel! And I can't thank him enough! That is a kick ass truck and one i'd love to own! Love those old ford trucks had a 89 that i learned to drive on!! Keep it up with the great content man
Nice!! I've got a White 95 it just broke a 100k miles I'm going to do the same but I just haven't 100% decided yet but I'm leaning towards a Whipple. Nice to see love for the 1st Gen Lightning still hasn't been lost. I can honestly say these ⚡Lightnings⚡ does strike more than once🌩!! Lol
I’ve owned 3 95 black gen 1 lightnings, I still have the last one I bought. The rear tube bumper is expensive this guys truck is the only other one that doesn’t have power mirrors I’ve seen mine doesn’t have power mirrors
If the oil pressure is good send it. Its a Ford motor not a Chevy. Seen plenty of push rod ford motors hci and or boosted on stock short blocks with miles on them.
Wow you have a 351 Saleen? They are one of my fave Mustangs ever, have you ever heard of Chicane Motorsports there not around anymore but he specialized in Saleens.
While you’re in there throw on a set of heads and long tubes if you haven’t yet! Cam swap??? Do all of it without pulling the engine out!! Sadly, after that you’ll have to pull it, but a 3000 stall!!!
Why would you be surprised that the 200k mile 351w is ok? They're roller cam engines, very beefy, in stock or a mild state of tune those roller cam engines commonly are seen with over 400k miles on them when maintained well. I have a 1997 F250HD RCLB 2wd 351w ZF5-S47 manual with 220k and it runs perfect. It's not as strong as the 320k mile 6L Vortec in my Silverado 2500 w/ 4L80e but, it feels like the TQ is close. In normal ish driving where you're not racing you don't feel short changed on power at all. I'd love to build a stroker 351w for that truck to test that ZF5's tq capabilities, maybe try a 4.25" crank since it's not common and go with aluminum heads and a carb style single plane with Holley Sniper on top or a Hi-Ram with Terminator X.
You coulda got atleast 50hp with some afr heads lol. Ati came out with the procharger where you could get 25+ lbs if you want it. I'd run atleast 15lbs.
Buy the plug and play computer from megasquirt that also controls the aode. You don't need a shift kit you can turn the pressure up in the tune for the shifts. After a bajillion years somebody finally came out with a plug n play that also controls the aode. Toss that dinosaur computer to the curb.
I enjoyed the video about Josh's SVT Lightning. A bit of detail - location or contact - about Josh's paint-correction business would be helpful. If a link to the business could be added, that would be great. Thanks!
Do you know what computer he put in order for it to dynotune, I have a 92 f-150 5.8 and I wanna change the whole computer ecu in order to tune the injectors etc? Any help
