The best part of your Jinjer journey is that no two songs sound the same, it's always a new adventure!

Tatiana wouldn't actually be able to tell you how she does it either. She really didn't learn it from a technical standpoint. She heard others do that technique and wanted to learn it. She got part of the way there and felt like she sounded too much like a female so she set about learning how to do it the way the guys did it. Others who do the technique describe using a combination of vocal fry and the "false vocal folds" which are above the actual vocal folds. When you swallow your false vocal folds extend over your actual vocal folds to keep food from going down the wrong way. Normally those are involuntary muscles but singers who learn this technique learn to control them to do screams and growls. Everyone who does it sounds a little different because it's biology but in addition to the false folds the really low tones come from opening up every portion of the vocal system to let the sound bounce around and create resonances. Think of it like a pipe organ. The larger the pipe the lower the tones. There's no pitch with the false folds though it's more about frequency balance. If they open up everything from their nasal passages on down and push a lot of air they can get low tones from the technique. The technique is extremely difficult to learn and you can fool yourself into thinking you are using the right mechanisms to do it when you really aren't and harm your vocal chords. I don't know if anyone better at this technique than Tatiana.

Her voice is impressive, but the Band is even more impressive. I have been playing Drums for about 30 years and this guy is a Monster, there is Funk, Jazz and Metal. My Last Band was a Tech Deathmetal Projekt and it took us weeks to get the 5/4 and 7/8 parts together. Listen to "Naked City - Bonecrusher", "negrophagist - stapwound" or "panzerballett - Rudolf", there is a lot of music out there, that is just mindblowing

Another gen Xer here who gave most "metal" a miss for most of my life. Not in a snobby way. And then last summer I heard Jinjer. I went to see them. They are my favourite band and Wallflowers is my favourite album. The things that some metal critics hate are what makes them awesome. They have subtlety but that punches you in the face, polyrhythms, polymelodies that flow in and out of each other, and powerful emotions. They are apparently writing again - I'm excited and a little scared (the war has motivated them).

You should see some of the live performances out there to get even more appreciation for what they can do, by seeing hem do it live. "Who's gonna be the one", "Perennial" at Wacken etc.

Agreed- Eugene's bass work is an absolute 5-string drop-A #MasterClass - he uploaded a bass playthrough vid for this which shows all the slides, the (casually!) fingernail-raked chordals, even some tasteful slap&pop where very few would think to place it.... just *SO* good. :) All 4 of them are top-tier at what they do imho, but I play bass, & Eugene's work thru this Wallflowers album almost made me spend money I don't really have on a decent 5-string instrument.... & that's something I've avoided over the last ~30yrs of playing!! I thoroughly recommend Eugene's playthrough vid for anyone interested in creative bass playing.... & how to make a single-guitarist heavy band sound *HUGE* ;)

I'd call Jinjer Progressive Death Metal. I'm very much a fan of heavy progressive metal. Opeth, tool, Rivers of Nihil, Gojira, Beyond Creation, are all great metal bands I've discovered recently.

I don't generally listen to music when I do something. Maybe some simple light pop music, or maybe hip hop. The stuff I like the most is the emotionally intense music that puts me through an experience. I listen to it as if I am watching a movie. Jinjer is one of those

I'd love to see you react to Spiritbox. You get growls and screams like you do with Tatiana/Jinjer but from a musical standpoint the songs might be more playlist worthy for you (at least some of them... others you might not like if you're not into heavy music). I'd recommend Blessed Be, Rule of Nines, Circle With Me, Hurt You, Electric Cross, Perennial, and Rotoscope.

I now expect you to react to JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance next. Her music styling and abilities show well in that one as well. The official video to that song I find a bit ...strange, while the on take performance is more...eye catching. 👀

Just gotta say - I have over 500 "albums" digitized in my car onboard mp3. My playlist is pick an album and play it. Sometimes I may skip a song here or there, but it is the album I listen to. The good part is I don't have to flip the tape over anymore. So my playlist is whatever is stuck in my head or whatever artist name I see as I scroll through the collection. Does that make my personality old? 🤘🤣

So now that you have exposed him and yourself to Jinjer, and he seems to latch onto the musicality of the band, stating it is opening his eyes to the talent levels of this genre and raising his respect for it, even if he doesn't find it his cup of tea...maybe go a completely different(yet at times the same) direction from most reactors and do Jinjer reactions that highlight some of that musicallity, like Begar's Dance showing their Jazz background, or Judgement and Punishment showing their ability to mix Reggae into Metal, or Home Back in which they mix Bassanova with Metal, or coming back to Jazz and showing I Speak Astronomy which has a complete metal with heavy jazz undertones, or Who is going to be the One which starts Jazz progressive, immediately goes into Punk/Metal and ends in Reggae, or you could do Bad Water which is a traditional Rock and Wallflowers which is mostly a soft rock ending in a classic heavy metal...then you can dive deeper into their stuff after that with Outlander, Cloud Factory, Just Another, Pit of Consciousness, Sit Stay Rollover, No Hoard of Value, and Retrospection, just for that amazing free energy Jinjer delivers so well. Just a suggestion from a fan of Jinjer
