The Gen X Workaholic 😓
Workaholism is something that a lot Gen X'ers pride themselves on.
In Episode 15 of The Gen X Shift, Dr. Adia Gooden talks about how workaholism can be a sign of our underlying belief that if we must work hard to prove that we are worthy.
And when we have spent years or decades in workaholic mode, our nervous systems start to associate that lifestyle with safety . . .
safety against financial ruin,
safety against disapproval,
safety against feeling unworthy.
So the invitation to slow down or rest more can feel unsafe and unsettling.
The answer though is not to keep working or to work more.
The keys are to: acknowledge that being a workaholic feels safe (right now) . . .
show yourself kindness and compassion . . .
slowly and gradually incorporate more rest . . .
and do the work around healing your underlying sense of unworthiness.
Tune into Episode 15 for more insights into embracing your unconditional worthiness.
