When Karen sings, shivers go down my spine, every. single. time. Watching her play the drums... You can practically feel her joy. She was pure perfection ❤
I saw the Carpenters in 1972. Karen sang and drummed at the same time for most of the show. She sang and drummed at a level few can achieve. She had 11 more years to live
I used to think this Carpenters material was just the wallpaper of life--what was on the radio, what other people I didn't know listened to. It was all over the airwaves. But I'm listening now decades later and I respect it and want that very familiar Carpenters LP in my life.
Sadly, Karen left us way too soon. It's been said that she has been teaching the angels how to sing. She has the purest singing voice I have ever heard. No matter how many times I listen to her, I still get all teary-eyed. We are so fortunate that she left us her beautiful music.
Richards extreme talents were often overlooked due to Karen's beauty, ANGELIC voice, and superb drumming. His composing, arrangements, conducting and addition of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to this, made it a masterpiece. Love the sound of those French Horns! But I must admit, over 50 years later, and Karen's voice still cuts to my core. Encapsulates my whole being. Mind, body and soul. Still brings a tear to my eye. RIP KAREN! Enjoyed your reaction. Please check out "This Masquerade". Also written by the late, great Leon Russell. RIP LEON! Karen's drum solos are also definitely worth checking out!
Karen s voice sounded wonderful. She passed away so young and has been missed tremendously by all her fans. Your review s quite accurate. Her and her brother were a fantastic team together too btw. She s s left us her beautiful voice in the scores and scores of songs she s sung. Prbly the greatest female voice I ve ever heard and we were about the same age.
Thank you, for both the verse and the reaction. Carpenters were my first college concert: I went alone, since they were considered uncool; Karen, who (astoundingly) considered herself a drummer more than a singer, played drums on some of the numbers. In my opinion, there are two female voices above all others in the rock and pop era: Karen Carpenter and Ann Wilson. Their music is different, but their talents are similar: They both have great range, magnificent timbre, excellent pitch, power and smoothness through all registers, superb enunciation without seeming contrived, and the ability to tell a captivating story in song. I never tire of hearing either of these enthralling voices.
Karan and her brother were an absolutely amazing duo. He wrote most of the songs they recorded and played piano and sang backup harmonies as well. I'm 72 and it's great to see the younger folks appreciating the music of my youth.
Richard did the arrangements on their songs but the big hits weren't written by them. This song was written by the great Leon Russell. Close to you by Burt Bacharach/Hal David. We've only just begun and rainy days and Mondays by Paul Williams and Co writer I can't recall
Like many teenagers in the 70's...I had several Carpenter Albums. We've Only Just Begun was sung at our wedding...like so many couples did back then. When she died after a long battle with ANOREXIA...their music died. Her Brother ended up writing songs I believe...since he had lost his sister, his singing partner and likely his best friend. Karen was only 32 when she died in 1983. Like many fans...I was heartbroken at the news.
You ask on your thumbnail "Who is she". She just happened to be one of the greatest female singers the world has known yet there are alot of fine singers but Karen would top my list as there was no-one else like her with that amazing voice. Still very much missed but their music lives on.❤
I’m a Millennial and there used to be these late night CD compilation commercials on Nickelodeon and her music used to be all over them, so I’ve loved her since I was a child even though she’s generations my senior. She was amazing. She used to sing and her brother would write the songs, like Billie Eilesh and her brother.
Great tunes from the Carpenters: Bless the Beasts and the Children, A Song for You (the one with the saxophone solo in the middle), Ticket to Ride, I Won't Last a Day Without You, Hurting Each Other.
Hi Princess, you are journeying down the Carpenters rabbit hole, beautifully. Her voice was like no other, now or since. That said I don’t think you’ve done We’ve Only Just Begun. That song really setup how well the harmonies were when done by Carpenters. So I recommend that song and the classic video with Karen sitting in the letter “U” in the YOU set. There is another. While not 100% Karen, Tori Holub is getting noticed (including by Richard Carpenter) as a voice of this generation who can sing songs of the 60’s - 80’s. She has the sound that does justice to those songs, especially Carpenters songs. In March she and her collaborator James Wilkas released on March 2nd (Karen’s birthday in heaven 🙏) their rendition of We’ve Only Just Begun. While no one can ever be Karen, also no one can ever be Tori. At 20 she was the youngest invited singer to the Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration in April. That should say something. I hope after listening to the Carpenters version, you do a comparison. On another note. It’s mostly unnecessary to block the video of Carpenters songs. There are many reactions up and running with open video. Also the one I’m linking is an independent and doesn’t need to be blocked either. It is also very important to see the video clearly as you will understand when you watch it. It it to this point the best cover of any Carpenters song ever. It needs to be seen. Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoy this treasure hunt. Joe ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J95lfJqo9VY.htmlsi=wP61BvtKMoMuHerR .
@ItsPrincess- Yes, Karen Carpenter is one of the best singers ever and Superstar is a great song. Try there song ON Top of the world as your next Carptenter reaction. Its a fast paced song that I think you will enjoy.
"Long ago and faraway, I fell in love with you..." Yes, we ALL did Karen....and always will love you, esp if we were baby boomers...you just broke our poor damned heart when you went away. Dammit! You were the beauty of music amid all the senseless noise shoved down our throats on the radio.
Good luck on your exams. Keep it real. Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. There is no law against these things!” ✌️✝️🇬🇧🇨🇦 Maybe reaction to Going to California. Led Zeppelin 🙏
You listened to most beautiful voice ever to sing a song!! Karens voice is the best ever and will never be equaled for sure, the crap you get fed today !! Wow!! Its so so sad!!!! Real music died so many years ago!! Just listen to all her songs you will be truly amazed!!!
I like that Bible verse. Praise Yah! Keep doing it , people may scoff bit it's ok because we are living in Revelations. By the way, Carpenters are definitely a classic.
If you want to hear an excellent different take on this classic, listen to Luther Vandross’ version, I think an excellent singer was inspired bye another excellent singer in Karen Carpenter.
Karen was a perfect alto. She ended up dying from anorexia due to public pressure and self perception of her weight and figure. Such a shame. BTW, don't let your microphone overshadow the music.....
Karen Carpenter is of my top 5 favorite female singers. THIS MASQUERADE might be my favorite of the Carpenters. Proverbs 28:26 I Googled it and it was slightly different. Enough to seem the same and interpret differently. That's the problem with the Bible. We easily get conversations wrong,,, we misunderstand texts all the time YETTT we trust that some Englishman took some haggard 2000 year old scrolls in a ancient language no hath spaketh anymore? Now it's the Gospel Truth? Oh Well. We Live, We Learn (?) We Die , Another's Turn!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
