I do love that the musical is *way* more blunt about how the entire cast is a giant case of absent immortal parent issues with a dash of child endangerment
I saw this on tour a few years ago, and I distinctly remember Percy’s slide onto stage and how much I loved it. That was a bit of a bigger stage, but I’m glad they made it work for this one.
during the first chorus of good kid, you can see him looking up, like he's screaming to the gods that he's innocent. it's also the only song that he sings on his own, showing how alone he feels, that everyone just thinks he's screwing things up on purpose, and i just love the little details in this oh my gosh also, towards the end of good kid, we get the line "i'm good enough for someone" similar to the line in my grand plan "someone will notice me". all both of them want is to be accepted, to be good enough, at least for one person. and at the end of the day, each one is the "someone" for the other. PERCABETH FOR THE WIN!!!!!!
silena saying "and then he suddenly started growing sunflowers everywhere" while gesturing between her legs made me laugh so fucking hard when i saw this live, it's my favorite part of the entire show
"She could've killed me..." Annabeth goes from "The plan wouldve worked anyway" to "I wouldn't do that seaweed brain" and I'm all for it in these books
Sallies face after Percy tells her that it’s Medusa’s head is probably one of the funniest parts of this play. Except for Poseidon’s lines. He was really funny
The actress who played Sally Jackson and Charon absolutely killed it. Edit: I just realized that two of the actors, the ones who played chiron and Sally, played like 7 or 8 characters between the two of them holy crap!
@@onefandomisnotenough6688 for real! They did such a good job that I didn't even notice until right near the end there, then I thought back and realized they'd played even more characters!
Man, Good Kid just… fucking hurts. I came here cause that song and Campfire Song came across my Spotify, and it was great there, but here? I work with kids who would often be called “bad kids”, and watching him on the verge of tears, promising he’s a good kid, just hurts so bad. It’s so true. One of the reasons I always try to let the kids I work with know their strengths, and that I love spending time with them. They just don’t hear it much of anywhere else…
I absolutely love your comment, and that you have so much compassion and empathy for the “good kids” in your life. The song itself, and Chris’s portrayal so strongly convey that anguish…. My oldest child is a “good kid,” and I was one growing up; never in my life have I found something that nails what the experience is like more than this does! Maybe that’s why this musical resonates with me so much… Thank you for putting so much heart into your work with kids, for the encouragement you give them to recognize their strengths and see their value. You contribute more to their lives than you could ever imagine!
Yeah but each of their stories helps you understand to the point where you start to think that being the kid of a Greek god probably sucks worse than normality
I've been obsessing over this one since the cd first came out but I've never actually found a tutorial! I've always adored Chris McCarrell but seeing his mannerisms, hearing his tone and line delivery, watching his expressions (where you can see them), his performance is just next-level. He plays a perfect twelve year old, it's insane
Its the small things like dropping the bag as he goes to sit down during "Strong" that truly complete his performance! I love this show and finally getting to watch over just listen is a whole new vibe
Other campers: Ok I have both a sword and shield, because balancing offense and defense is important Clarissa La Rue, on brand daughter of the war god: You know what’s the best defense? More offense
Tbh, Clarissa is a good character, she isn’t bad..as shown in sea of monsters, she only bullies cause if she doesn’t her dada ares will ..pull the abusive dad card, I mean, look at her when silena died in last Olympian, she genuinely cared

I remember going to this play in 4th grade! After school dad asked how the field trip went. My exact words were "Some would say, it was extraordinary."
@@onefandomisnotenough6688 that year we had like 3 field trips but this one was my favorite! Thx for putting this on RU-vid! I've been looking for the whole show for years
the way kristen stokes performs my grand plan always has me in tears because she really embodies how hard it is to make something of yourself especially when you’re a girl because we’re ALWAYS seen as fragile and it’s so stupid i love how she plays annabeth and i’ll always see her as inspiring
59:59 that whole dance sequence is amazing but watching Percy give the sky the 'ok' gesture sarcastically was honestly very funny. Like, thanks for the danger, we are little kids, good job gods.
No, it really WAS awesome in the theatre! Something you’d never expect on Broadway, but that was the beauty of it all. The set, the simple props, the small cast…they put it all together so cleverly, with imagination and creativity! I saw it a few times, and the toilet paper part was really so fun because the whole front few rows of people and seats were just covered in it, it tangibly pulled us all into the show in a way. I even brought a little home in a playbill😂
Annabeth: And things will get bad / Before they will get better Me, having read PJO & HOO: oh sweet Annabeth, it'll get bad, then worse, then worse, then "oh my god how can this get worse," and THEN it'll get worse. And then it'll get better :D
the fact that this stage play with effects that could be made by a third grader is better than the movies say a lot (not hating on the play is so much fun to watch I'm hating on the movies)
I just realized the only people Luke prompts to sing in campfire song are Annabeth, Silena, and Percy - three people he’s attempting to bring to Kronos’ side.

I saw this in Tampa FL 2019 and it was the last show… man it killed!!! When Percy came on stage the cheering was ridiculous. The actors broke up laughing at their own lines because of how much the audience laughed. It was also the actor who played Grover’s birthday. He got chicken nuggets from the cast… it was my favorite traveling show yet. 10/10 would totally recommend.
In killer quest when Grover said he was going to be the second first to come back from the underworld if you look at Luke’s face you can see he doesn’t want him too. He obviously thought some random people were going to join Percy not his two best friends. He obviously doesn’t want them to come because he thought that Percy and company wouldn’t come back because him and the bolt would be in Tartarus. Just an awesome detail if you look closer. The actor for Luke was amazing!
I loved the actor for Luke, he was so clearly into the character and knew all of the minor details. All the actors were amazing tbf; they all embodied the characters they played perfectly.
I took my daughter & her bff to see it exactly 3 years ago last month. I really thought I would be bored by the time it was over. Boy was I wrong!!! I wanted to watch them again! My daughter already had the music, but I wanted a cd for MY car lol. Loved this cast!!!
Oh wow, this is great quality for a *slime tutorial!* I’m a bit disappointed George Saladbar wasn’t in this one, but whoever played Grover did a really good job, anyways!
This was George Salazar playing this role he had his hair bleached at the time this was recorded and when it was still on Broadway when it wasn’t closed down due to Covid.
If you want to avoid the copyright goons, there’s some basic steps. Put a message in the description telling people not to like dislike or comment (alternatively, disable the comments). It reduces the amount of people who find this randomly. That group is more likely to report it. Also you can sometimes use alternative phrasing. Slime tutorial works but there’s alternatives (beetlejuice would use bug beverage, perhaps Peter Johnson and the thunder stealer for this?). If it catches on within a fandom people will learn what to look for (admittedly this musical is not necessarily the best candidate for that since a larger portion of the fanbase isnt musical dans who learn the bootleg tricks). Best of luck!
For title ideas: You could do something like those super uplifting kinds of videos, like 'kid learns his dad is a god, you'll never guess what happens next' or something Could do basic slime tutorial name, like, 'ancient Greek slime recipe' or something with electricity even because lightning Maybe 'percy jackson try not to sing challenge: long edition', I do love that one channel that names theirs that just considering it's not even technically false, and it could be good since as this commenter pointed out, many of the fans may not be familiar with the name tricks and so they might click on it expecting just what it said and realize it's the full thing, or they might see it's the length that it is and realize that it's a bootleg Or what this commenter said But yeah
@@onefandomisnotenough6688 HE POSTED IT ON TWITTER! It said “there’s a reason I made Percy so androgynous energetically. For one, it was the only way the part worked. Outcast in middle school? ADD ain’t enough. Why he struggled socially, was the one area where I didn’t want your suspension of disbelief. Cuz trust. You needed it later. So I gave him flecks of gay. And I knew it. Our team knew it. And I was terrified, terrified reviews would shred me for it. They didn’t. Me sneaking that in was a big swing. And for me personally my proudest hit. I made him a hero I needed growing up.” Sorry that I wrote the whole thing, I just want anyone to be able to see it in case they didn’t know!:)) but I think it’s so cool.
My biggest (and really my only) musical theater flex is that I saw this before it made it big. My theater friends get so mad at me when I mention that I got to see it live haha
Watching this after the official casting for Percy jackson came out and I'm imagining all these scenes with walker scobell and I AM SO HAPPY!!!! Edit: ANNABETH AND GROVER HAVE BEEN CAST AND THEY ARE PERFECT I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM
@@whywouldyouwasteallyourpoison rick riordan has never said annabeth was white . you’re just racist and think everyone has to be white . leah is the best annabeth
@@whywouldyouwasteallyourpoison Rick Riordan made it clear in the beginning of the casting process that they were accepting everyone no matter gender, race, religion, disabilities, sexuality, etc. he thinks his casting is perfect, so we should respect his decision and not throw hate on Leah.
@@royaletulips5749 I think the movie is good (like the acting, SFX, etc.), but it's NOTHING like the book. They based the whole movie on something considerably small in the book. There's a lot more that I could get into, but we don't need this comment to be a book
@@royaletulips5749 Yeah, but I can't wait for the pjo show to come! Sadly that probably won't be until early 2024, but I know it's going to be amazing since Rick gets to work on it alongside the crew!
I think it was a good idea to move the part where Grover tells Percy about Thalia to near the end... Grover seems to feel so much more guilty in this version and it rips my guts out every time...
@@onefandomisnotenough6688 i know the actors portrai their characters realy well poor Rick Riordan they destroy it's books whit the movies i hope.disney put Nico diangelo in the new series 😎

My god, I remember seeing this. But sadly this was before I read the series so I didn’t appreciate it (and kinda slept through a lot). But I love listening to it now and remembering the few parts I did watch!!
this cast (of the kids) is exactly how i picture them but in the later books. like tlo age, since they are only supposed to be around 12 in tlt but the show cast is amaze too! And the Percabeth in this musical- yesssss
@@onefandomisnotenough6688 Luke dies in The Last Olympian when he is given Annabeth's knife by Percy. He commits suicide by stabbing himself under his left arm where his mortality was still kept intact after his bath in the River Styx (known as his Achilles heel).
a musical in English with Portuguese subtitles? WTF? No way! I'm Brazilian, maybe now I can finally convince someone to watch a musical with me. Saying there are subtitles is a great argument, it beats the "They don't talk, they sing for everything, and it's in English. No way I'm watching this" response.
