Millenial here iPod is just a great tool. Also having a dedicated music device bring back value to once a great form of art now just depreciated in value due to mostly using it as background noise for most people..

I really love the plain idea of using certain devices for a certain specific use only. Truly it feels just great to turn to one device, in my experience even a place, or a scent (candles) for a specific purpose. I've been doing this for only 2-3 months and it truly feels lighter, and I more focused. I've had in mind for some time using something of the sort, like an iPod, even going as far as cassettes (excuse the irritating nostalgic/'vintage' slip), and carrying with me a flip phone because of not standing the idea of not being able to be reached in case of emergency. I really enjoy how you address this subject. It just feels refreshing, purely refreshing and it validates things I have true intention of practicing but have held back. I don't doubt those watching this video feel the same way. Really thinking about it, I've noticed how in each video you go into depth about the subject without going in circles--not only the content alone, but the quality and care you put into your content is prominent. Always thank you for sharing, Calvin. Also, hey! Just noticed! Congrats on 200 subscribers!🎉 Very happy for you!

Nice video and music has definitely been a distraction for me in the past I am able to prevent listening to music when studying but i like how you mentioned the importance of not having music when commuting and being more aware of my your surroundings I’m gonna try doing that.

Great video! I've recently been going through and doing sort of the same things you talked about here. Been struggling with content over-consumption and over-stimulation due to smartphone usage a lot. It's been getting worse as time goes on- since 2022 when I made the unwise decision to reactivate my social media accounts again. I would wake up and instantly start scrolling feeds for a good hour or two, leaving me exhausted, groggy and demotivated to accomplish anything worthwhile. The idea of getting seperate devices purpose built for certain tasks kinda started when I started buying old DSLRs and realized how enjoyable, almost meditative, it is to use a tool that is great at one single job and nothing else. I can't get distracted with nonsense on a dedicated camera. Photos, videos, thats it. Same thing applies to music. I used to use Spotify to listen to all my music and whenever I would want to change song, like a track, etc. I'd inevitably get sucked into a notification from something or someone- ruining the flow state I just spent the half hour getting into. As with a camera, the iPod allows me to only be able to play songs, does it amazingly, and nothing more. No waiting for it to buffer because of bad service, no crashes because of the poorly coded app and so on. I have my complete library of 10k+ songs I've built over the last decade all in lossless, album art, lyrics, the whole 9 yards and it should out live the heat death of the universe. I still have a smartphone but I've recently switched to running grayscale + 100% blue light filter on it and it's helped a lot with me not getting sucked into places I don't need to be. (A basic example for how color works on our psychology is how the red and yellow in the McDonald's logo makes you hungry.) Removing all the color removes all these clever ways advertisers and the like use to lure you in and since we are paying for all these "free" websites and apps via our attention and data- the more you're able to remove it the better. I did the same for my two laptops and have noticed it helps a lot there too. Mainly with eye strain cause I don't tend to get distracted with them as much. F.lux is a great app to achieve this. I'd like to eventually switch to a dumb phone that supports messaging clients and RU-vid- (The one platform I refuse to delete because its genuinely valuable to me.) but how I have my current phone configured seems to work fine. I check socials on my web browser on PC once every few days for messages and that's it. I don't want to fall into a trap of consumerism buying more stuff to fix my problems when removing existing things would work better.

I definitely resonate with your last sentence. I wanted to buy a dumbphone, or something along those lines but a lot of them target a very niche so end up being unreasonably expensive. An example is the Light Phone which is $300, just to get a phone that does LESS than any other phone at the same price point. I've customised my phone the same way you have, and I will look at a dumb phone when I eventually need to replace my current phone, but until then, I'll keep using it this way. Thanks for your comment, it's nice to hear someone else doing the same thing and finding similar success. I hope you stick around!

Sound like a good idea. I might prefer the old iPod Touch with iOS6, there is jsut not much you can do with it anyways. Listen to music and maybe some offline stuff like photos synced from mac.

When i was a kid apple ipod is so expensive for my parents to buy. But my dad bought a budget mp4 player 'Iriver e300' for me. I love it so much because its small device simply. I feel fun when i listen with my little mp4 player. (Sorry for my english😂)
