• 4:3 aspect ratio • Random photo of a cat with headphones • Merely okay mic • Random 2000s shit in mediocre quality • Plok boss theme for whatever reason • Completely unscripted Yeah, this is peak RU-vid
Ngl part of the draw to the iPod for me is the mods and the jank. It’s a fun project, you can make it your own. I’m not really doing it for cost effectiveness or reliability, the modding is the fun.
Yeah I completely understand that. I'm just making a video to show a modern cheaper player that can use rockbox. Since most of the rockbox ports are on older players
I honestly miss the days of portable audio players. Sure my phone is neat but LG stopped putting quad DACs in with the Velvet and also I'm just tired of smartphones.
There's a lot of great DAPs nowadays but my issue is that they're mostly android based and I just don't like that, there's still some very decent ones like this one or if you want something more like an Ipod nano I really like my Hidizs AP80 pro
Just so people know this same player is sold under different names like Surfans F20 or AIGO Eros, AGPTek H3, just with a different case and body so I encourage people to look up the different models and choose the one who they think looks the best because IMO the Hifi Walker H2 looks kinda ugly.
this vid seriously rocks. looking into buying a hifi walker h2 vs ipod & i love how much fun this video was. made me feel like i could have fun playing music on my h2 when i get one ^_^
The thing I wonder about lesser known products like these is how hard will they be to fix in 5-10 years. Like if the battery goes bad will there be replacement parts? That's the nice thing about ipods, there's a large community supporting them.
These are a bitch to open since they weren't made to do so and I'm p sure they require a heat gun but when on sale you can find them very cheap, like 80 USD so honestly if you end up really liking it buying a new one as a replacement down the line isn't bad but there's also tons of others DAPs just they may not be compatible with Rockbox
Thanks for the info. I've been searching for a MP3 player that can run Rockbox for many years now. And I actually just bought the Hifi Walker myself. I'll be testing Rockbox when it arrives.
I def agree. Only reason I spent 100+ dollars modding my iPod (not to mention the 100$ I spent on IEMS) was because it was my Dads. The 5th gen U2 edition, I was sad to see it go to waste collecting dust in the garage. Definitly not the "best" way to get portable lossless audio, but definitely the best on an emotional level.
123.00 is entry level for the DAP market these days. Brands like Fiio, iBasso, Cowon, Cayin, xDuoo, Astell&Kern, Hiby, Shanling and others make DAPs at that price and above 3000.00 in some cases. Some have duel micro SD slots and some have one slot but can handle 1 TB or more. All of them have bluetooth, wifi, touch screens, every format you want, better sound quality and power, and ability to stream as well. If you want a dedicated player just for music, I would look else where than modifying and old iPod.
Good video. I was deciding between modding an old junk ipod 5th gen on my desk or getting the H2. Looks like I'm getting the H2 instead after listening to this short review.
iPod is great, you wouldn't get the same feeling of the iPod using anything else (maybe the fiio x5 1st gen) especially the 5.5th gen video, modding is easy as well. But I wouldn't go buy a iPod for the flipped up prices they are selling them nowadays. If you really want an iPod I would suggest going through your local thrift stores first. But for the price of the hifi walker h2 you could get something better by Hiby or Fiio by saving just a little bit more
Could you make a video showing how you got rockbox onto the HIFI walker H2? I seem to be having trouble. The utility software will not detect the device, and when I try to copy everything onto the SD manually. It doesn’t complete the firmware update. Would be very helpful, though I understand if not, thanks.
I suspect the amount of power it would need could offset the usability (before the price even comes into play) , but it's very possible that a music handheld could have a Micron 2TB 2400 or similar in it if someone designed one with it.
Your frustration is heavily misguided. Storage isn't the issue. It's the amount of RAM needed to index through all of those songs. Mods to turn old iPods into multi-TB players have existed for years, but the achilles heal with them is that they don't have enough RAM to work smoothly. Also, can you imagine navigating large libraries with the buttons on the device? No thanks. My hand is cramping up just thinking about it.
you just need a TB micro sd card. i know the astrell & kern dap's can use them but those are really expensive players. the H2 is rated to handle 256GB cards but i have a 400GB in mine and it works fine.
i had a fiio for about 75 euros with a touch screen (i think was called m3pro) and i put an 1 tb card in it (bigger than my whole music folder). it was great, but i now use plexamp with my old iphone.
@@Bug3ater2 I have nothing against mechanical wheels as a concept, I like them just fine on my Sansas, I just feel like this one is either poorly made or mine's just somewhat broken. (Also, my player is the old version with MicroUSB, but that's no biggie, I still keep those cables around.)
👍yeah I've had my H2 for like 3 or 4 years, love it. I can confirm they work perfect with 400 GB Sandisk Ultra microSD cards and with gapless playback of Hi-Res flacs, i don't know why anyone would want to have to deal with itunes and having to convert files to lossy m4a 🤮 yeah, no thanks.
i have an older ipod and it just sounds bad. every single smartphone i've had sounds much better even the cheap chinese ones. i'd rather use an old phone
What the hell did you do with your ipod?? why was it sizzling?? that has NEVER happened on mine and it's so old at this point and still never did that.
Some of the moding is over done. It all comes down to user design and we have horrible user design right now with buttons that aren't visibly buttons how am I supposed to know I need to click that text to get the other text or a menu it's like everything's on hard mode and you need to unlock an Easter egg just to change hey basic setting.
The original OS supports BT but if you want to use BT with rockbox it hasn't been implemented and considering how slow is development for it nowadays I wouldn't hold my breath. Probably better to look for a different player, there's other options out there if you search for DAPs (Digital Audio Player)
You know, when I first saw this player years ago it was between 65-80$ straight from china, never botherd about it because the company doesn´t give me the Fiio vibe and more of the making $ vibe. If you want something good which doesn´t need a bunch of modding you should be on the lookout when Fiio lunches something sadly they always sell out quickly and not gonna be reproduced. The Fiio X1 V2 (even the first version blew any iPod away) for just 100$ when it came out had everything you wanted: iPod style, better amp capable of easily handling up to 80 Ohm headphones and bluetooth, CPU was a bit slow but for 100$? Oh, and you had to buy your own micro-sd because it didn´t had internal storage but still, that was awsome.
No bluetooth with RockBox?, deal breaker. Spend about $100 more (Minus the cost of the iPod) and you have a future proof iPod Classic with a huge ssd, Bluetooth, & USB-C functionallity.
i'm not impressed of your mimic on 00s. its not authentic its just fake. btw i'm aint a retrohead. it would be better just to direct your clip in more naturale straightfoward way and leave those complex tries on mimic. the point of authentic anything is that the way the thing was made so its mostly the simpliest way for each particular genre or epoche
I can understand in a quality sense. Original iPods are built amazingly. I'm just trying to show off a more accessible form of rockbox since it is such a good OS
