There's a lot of wisdom in proverbs specifically that points to saving for a rainy day. While retirement isn't the most pressing thing it is very true that the longer you are invested for retirement the more the compounding works. Many workplaces also offer a match that is beneficial to take advantage of as well. For now I wouldn't put a huge amount into ret. but putting a little bit in each paycheck would really be beneficial for the long run. We don't know what the future holds and perhaps we won't be here but even then there is also wisdom about leaving money to those who depend on you even if you die prematurely. This could also be increased as more is made as well. As far as retirement accounts, you'll only be able to take out of your own once you reach a certain age but it can help to have that available if you do plan on getting married even though you may not use it as the wife it can be beneficial to ones husband so he doesn't feel as burdened by it.
