Gendai™ is our most commonly used yakisugi "shou sugi ban" surface for exteriors. After being heat-treated, the surface is brushed once to knock off the heavy charring and leave a smooth, silky look. Gendai can be stained a variety of different colors, but will always be dark with subtle contrast shadows.
