Nakamoto Forestry is the largest producer of yakisugi in the world and has now expanded distribution to North America with inventory in Portland, Oregon. Our four mills in Hiroshima and Tokushima operate custom automated lines to produce a high-grade and affordable product. In Japan, we have owned and managed large tracts of forest for decades, using the logs our harvest teams bring in to mill the most consistent yakisugi available anywhere. We would like the international community to appreciate that Japan has always had a large domestic forestry industry, one that has an ingrained respect for the forest fiber with which we shelter ourselves.

I'm looking to clad a retaining wall with yakosugi cedar boards. My plan is to do them non shiplap and vertical. I was advised to do yakisugi on both sides due to potential warping. is this really necessary?

Shou Sugi Ban is a mistranslation and does not mean ANYTHING to Japanese culture. Yakisugi is a product in Japan that is made using cryptomeria cedar/cypress. Unless you use that exact wood and the exact process it is not Yakisugi let alone the made-up term Shou Sugi Ban. It is also quite disrespectful to Japanese culture.

Pressure washer with a qualifiedan operating it. Perhaps 1200psi. Save Labor.
@NakamotoForestryNorthAmerica
@NakamotoForestryNorthAmerica 3 месяца назад
While it'd be faster, we strongly advise against using pressure washers for knocking down the soot layer or washing yakisugi. The high pressure will damage the wood fibers, compromising the strength of the board

3 guys an hour to transport, prep, burn brush, dry... all the steps.. yikes! Beautiful but, only $900 a square ft by the time you install it.(exaggeration) I got some on clearance for a bathroom feature wall, The lumber yard couldn't sell it... too expensive.

There are ways to burn both sides of the boards, but in the flue method we show here and if you plan on trying this yourself, it is best to burn the face of the board. You can tell which side of the board is the face by looking at the growth rings visible in the end grain. If the rings are arching upwards, the side on top is the face

I have to use a VPN to access your site because I am located in Puerto Rico. It is part of the US. Even if you don't service PR, people living in PR often have real estate on the mainland. Blocking by geolocation in general is a bad idea. Edit: I see you disabled selecting text on your website. Man, you really need to relax. I'm trying to explore your product for a project and you're putting things in the way. You can't stop someone from taking things from your site. Not being able to select just makes it annoying that I can't copy/paste easily. I can still do it by dorking with F12, so all you are doing is annoying your customers.

Strange, we aren't blocking Puerto Rico. We acknowledge your annoyance with the text blocking and we are working on a solution which may address your concerns in the near future. Hope you get your samples soon!

Seeing the brush marks against the grain doesn't seem great. There were few shots of the wood dry. Can't see much when it's wet.

We sell stainless steel nails custom painted black. We offer both hand-drive nails and coil nails to use with a nail gun, and while both get the job done and will last, we love the look of the hand-drive nails the most

Not trying to be funny, but I wonder if a carpet shampooer would work in place of scrubbing by hand. The water comes out the nozzle. The nylon bristles do the work and then it sucks the water back off. I think that’s worth a shot. I’m not quite ready yet though but I think I’m gonna give it a go.

Interesting "old school" craftsmanship on display. I wonder if there might be an innovative way to get similar results with less carbon footprint during the manufacture of these materials? You have any thoughts? Again...appreciate craftsmanship and NOT throwing stones.
