Any changes made to them is fictional and doesn’t necessarily make it a bad change if you don’t like it. And 4. We all have different opinions

You have to actually care about the fictional characters to some degree to enjoy them. Opinions are opinions and we’re not gonna agree on anything else I don’t think

Same here. I disagree with what they said about Black Panther though. We see how that turned out in the movie.

You don't need to explain your race when making your opinion, but yes as long as they create characters with compelling personalities and character arc then I'm cool with it.

I agree with you to an extent. But I would also ask you why can't we have both? Both can work depending on who's being adapted and who's writing

It's the only podcast where I feel like I'm really just sitting around with 3 friends having a conversation. Everything else has a point to teach/rationalize something to the audience. This is just a half baked conversation we can all be a part of.

@@kyleellis1825 oh don't get me wrong I wasn't whining, if he doesn't want to do the other shows then it wouldn't be fun. I just had a harder time finding this show on RU-vid since I don't watch the main channel like I used to. So once they stopped doing it on twitch. And the schedule was a bit all over the place (understandably they had a lot going on at that time). After I while I kinda forgot about it. And occasionally like now would remember and check if they had done anything new. And I'm glad to see it here, more likely that I'll be checking out new episodes from now on. Although honestly some of the biggest laughs Andy has ever given me were between filming each show when he could be less sponsor friendly 😅

Gender and race swapping can work from an artistic perspective in an alternate universe, which the animated movies explicitly are. The MCU is more or less an indirect representation of the comics. It would be wrong to make popular characters like Doom or the Thing a woman just for the sake of being a woman. We all know there’s nothing special there for them story-wise. It’s the same thing as when they changed Taskmaster. It’s stupid

@@superjlk_9538 That’s why I’m saying it’s dependant on the character (or situation.) Like did anyone care that they made Copperhead a woman in Arkham Origins? I can’t imagine anyone would. That’s because nobody really cares about Copperhead. So you can make that change.

​@@superjlk_9538 To be fair in terms of Taskmaster even if had Taskmaster remain a guy you would still get the same results. A underwhelming villain who's just a soldier with no dialogue with a lackluster reveal that doesn't change the main character

​@@kyleellis1825 Yikes, I do not see Damian going down well in that situation. Even if you did what you suggested about the egg. At some point you would have had to put Bryce to sleep and operate without her knowledge. Damiens whole backstory is already messed up as it is. And been tried to minimize it and not directly in words saying what Talia actually did because Bruce was not technically, let's call it disinterested. Adding gasoline to that fire with a gender bent version would probably not have gone over well. It would also change it to Ra's not wanting Bryce to take over as his heir but merly interested on a genetic level and wanting a son, which is a whole other level of creepy.

I’m not one that typically likes gender bending characters, but I have been growing to like a female doctor doom with the comic book origin. I think if done right it would rock.

The unintentional sexual tension between Reed and a female Dr. Doom would be immense.

It would kinda ruin a lot of stuff if doom was a chick imo. The fact doom hates Reed so much and is constantly a dick with the shit he can make is because he feels inferior to Reed in many regards both intellectually and physically and he loves Sue Storm in most comics (and in some they were together) so by making him into a chick they’d either have to make Reed take a backseat to sue and have her be the leader (also they’d have to possibly make her bisexual), as well as plenty of other shit that I don’t care to write down rn 😂.

@@lexofpower2822 I’m not talking about the relationship being why sue would have to lead I’m talking about the fact Dr. Doom’s inferiority complex drives him for the most part, I doubt marvel (or any company) would ever make a product where a woman’s core drive is (for the most part) because she is intellectually inferior to a guy, it’s not really a good look, but if her drive is from her being inferior to sue storm in some way that would make more sense and wouldn’t be offensive, thus the big issues between Doom and the 4 would really boil down to doom trying to 1 up sue storm, and because of that it would be Sue pushing the story forward (i.e she becomes the protagonist). Furthermore as they stated in this Johnny is a horn dog and would likely try to fuck doom the entirety of all conflicts, so if they set up a romance between Reed and Doom, as well as the relationship between Reed and Sue, then the relationship Johnny would be trying to start with doom, and possibly also the Sue and doom relationship (not to mention if the thing is a woman and then Johnny would try to fuck the thing as well). That would be an idiotic cluster fuck that everyone would complain about pretty quickly. Especially considering that if they went the route of making her beautiful it would most definitely piss off fans cause that would be changing a very key thing of Doom is the fact that (again another inferiority) he feels hideous on the outside which in large part translated to him being hideous on the inside (even when he was good looking he felt inferior about his looks before his face got fucked up and he had a tiny scar). And if they make that fucked face a thing I doubt Johnny and Reed would be trying to get with that (keep in mind that as memory serves the only times when sue is attracted to doom is prior to his face getting fucked, and when doom basically hypnotizes her into thinking he’s attractive.)

The whole dynamic with Miles Moralis would definetly take a shift as well.

I'd also say this is the same thing for the race swap they did with johnny. It changes the relationship between he and sue. They shoulda went all the way and made them both black.

I mean to be fair does a vast majority of people really care about Mar-Vell. Because I listened to several die hard comic book fans say they don't like Mar-Vell as much as Carol Danvers and that he's very forgettable. I know Mar-Vell was technically the first Captain Marvel I don't really hear people clamoring for Mar-Vell to return as Captain Marvel in the comics and that the change they made in the movie was easy to accept since like I said he's that forgettable

I remember reading the Death of Captain Marvel and when Carol was Ms. Marvel leading the Avengers or Operation Lightening Strike from her personal helicarrier. Those stories are leaps and bounds better than the mess they’ve made now. I’m rallying hard for Carol to be Ms. Marvel again.

@@MrRobot1984 I personally like her as Captain Marvel more because I think that's good growth for her and helps shake up the status quo. The real problem is that she has terrible writers that portray her as an asshole. Carol as Captain Marvel can work if she's given better writers. To quote Comic Drake "There's no such thing as bad ideas or bad characters. Only bad writers." But we are all entitled to our own opinions. So let's just agree to disagree

@@marcelinovazquez5128 you’re not wrong. I was excited when she first took on the mantle. I loved her Ms. Marvel solo series and from the Mighty Avengers era. But then reading about Carol’s “hero” being a female pilot from WW2 who some how used a time traveling airplane to steal her Carol’s powers in her first book as Captain Marvel, the writing never recovered from that point. Not to mention the constant retcons and power scaling they dump on her.

There's also Earth-11 that is all gender swapped characters.

They do make new diverse characters the problem is that people tend to ignore them for the more well known A-List characters. Even older characters suffer from this. Shang-Chi who was created to capitalize on the popularity on martial art was nobody until he got his own movie. And also some of these who say "don't change established characters just create new ones" are hypocrites because whenever new characters are created they complain about them endlessly. There's appeasing them. And I want to make it clear I'm not saying that you're apart of that group but there are people who feel that type of way

@marcelino vazquez oh no I totally get that and thank you for elaborating. I think the problem some people I've been seeing people have is the approach at times not being as great. But yeah I think most people probably overlook the new character attempts in favor of the older established ones and such like u said.

To be fair even if they kept Taskmaster a guy you would still have the same conclusion that Black Widow had. A popular villain from the comics turned into a dialogue less, underwhelming, generic secondary soldier to the main villain.

I'm not sure this counts but when Power Rangers adapted the Super Sentai season Ryusoulger into Dino Fury they gender the green ranger from male to female and did a great job with. It helped that the Ryusoulger characters were already not that exactly great characters to begin with. They weren't bad they just felt underdeveloped in some areas. The female green ranger Izzy was a historical for the Power Rangers fandom because that the first time we had a female green ranger who was a main state and not just one or a body switched episode. Izzy herself (the green ranger) was also a great character she was competitive, headstrong, sassy and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Overtime she does mellow out a bit like she when learns that winning isn't everything and learns not to be so reckless and headstrong. But at the same time she doesn't abandon the traits that make her unique she learns how to handle them better. Another examples includes Onomatopoeia in Superman & Lois. In the comics Onomatopoeia is a guy who just only talks in Onomatopoeia statements. While in Superman & Lois Onomatopoeia is not only a girl but also has the superpower to minic sound and use it as a weapon. In the story Onomatopoeia is married to Bruno Manheim and has cancer. Bruno is using criminals as test subjects in order to find a cure for his wife. I think story is much better the way they have been currently writing Onomatopoeia

Because we would still have the same complaints we have now. Taskmaster would still be a boring, generic, dialogue less, super soldier who plays second fiddle to the main villain

I think it’s okay if you’re actually improving a character who is probably a white male because they were created in the 60s by white males. Hawkman, for example, works way better black just on the fundamental level that he is an Egyptian themed superhero. Plus, he’s Hawkman - now he’s actually got something going for him that makes him interesting.

@@Jscallen13 Well, good luck with that. Not a whole lot of new superheroes coming out nowadays (or, at least, you know, popular ones? Like, the most recent big name I can think of is Miss Marvel, and she debuted in 2014.) Anyway, I stand by what I said: some characters work better as another race or gender. Like they said in the video, Doctor Doom would probably be a better character if he were a woman. But that's not always true. Peter Parker is a white male. That's a pretty fundamental part of his character. A lot of characters make sense as whatever they are, but that's not always the case. Can we at least agree on that? That across all of comic book history there have been characters who would have worked better if they were something else, whether it be genderbent, race bent, had a different sexual orientation, etc.?

@@rokeYouuer but who gets to decide what works better? What worked 10 years ago doesn’t work today. Same for 10 years from now. Any work of art should be viewed in the context and timeframe they are created in.

I never saw the reason for Taskmaster being so forgettable and underwhelming being the fact that he was gender swapped. I always viewed it the lack of interaction between her and Natasha. Taskmaster is Marvel's Deathstroke so there was some level of expectation and the fact that he has a strong rivalry with Natasha. I think if they removed Taskmaster being mind controlled and have act more independently that could a level of suspense and could be a good way to trick the audience. The entire time we think Taskmaster is being mind controlled and when they use the cure that's when the twist comes. Also if you think about it even if they made Taskmaster a guy you would still get the same results as you do now

Majority of the people really don’t give a shit that taskmaster was female, is that she wasn’t really part of the movie, and was just boring. Even if taskmaster was male, it would’ve ended up the same outcome.

Fun fact they were originally going to that with the Justice League cartoon. The original was to have the Justice League and their 3 sidekicks Tim Drake, Impulse and Cyborg being a teenage girl. There's some rest animation that has that original idea. They could if they wanted to bring back that idea in some shape or form.

Which is interesting since I don’t think we’ve gotten that in the spider-verse yet. That would be a fun story. I like genderswaps when it opens up new story potential in an alternate universe. I don’t like it in the main timeline or representation which the MCU is undoubtedly supposed to be (I’m looking at you Taskmaster. Such a disappointment)

@@superjlk_9538 Exactly. Unless it's a one page spread showing a bunch of different alternates, show me what would be different but also familliar out of the changes. Imagine a Spider-Woman who has Green Goblin as her Fathr-in-Law.
