I think the missing part of this story is that Gene and Chris Lighty made it to Cancun, but 50 didn't. And then down there Chris Lighty got at Gene at the Cancun hotel with news of 50 being shot in NYC and asking to speak to Chaz to see if people gonna try to shoot him.

50 Cent got shot 9 months after he released "How To Rob". He didn't get shot while going to record it in Cancun. And if it was to shoot a video, that doesn't make sense either it was a single from the 'In Too Deep' soundtrack that released in August 1999. 50 was shot in May 2000. They wouldn't shoot a video for that song so late, they would've moved onto one of his singles to promote his album like the song he did with Destiny's Child, they wouldn't go back to this song again after it's buzz already was down.
