Legend. What a privilege to have experienced this man's footprint on FSU athletics. He will always be remembered along with Coach Bowden. Noles for life.

Gene is so genuine. I met him in person when I visited the FSU ADs office one Monday morning in 1985. I was the Air Force ROTC treasurer and visited the director to count cash from game program sales from Saturday’s football game. Thereafter, Gene would greet me by name whenever he passed by. A few years later he spoke at an event our booster club hosted and when he saw me he called out Hey Keith, how are you. I suspect he treated everyone he met the same. I was always such a fan of listening to him calling games. Basketball, FSU Football and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Football. Often, I would turn off tv audio and listen to gene during games. Best to you gene. You are a living legend.

Thank you so much Gene! I literally just cried thinking about all the memories that are tied to Gene. From a lifelong FSU fan and a lifelong BUCS fan.... thank you.

I've been listening to this unique voice and amazing announcing personality since I was a literally kid.. I remember being like 4 years old and trying to do the "he's at the 20, the 10.... TOUCHDOWN FLORIDA STATE" Legends never die, thank you for making even our losing games special!

FSU and bucs this man’s voice is directly related to my favorite sports teams and I’ll never forget hearing his voice on 98 rock calling a bucs game as me and my dad drove around town

When Lee Bowen passed away, I met Gene afterwards. We must have talked for an hour. He he incredibly down o earth, humble, genuine... and just a super nice guy. I have listened to countless FSU games over the years with him at the mic. There is no other person in radio with his enthusiasm, his love for the game and for his Noles. Derrick said it best... what does it mean... everything. When I graduated from FSU in 2001, having been declared a dynasty, having never lost a home football game during my years at FSU... I said there will be 4 incredibly sad days... Whenever Bobby or Gene retired and when either one leaves this earth. We love you Gene, you will always be part of the Nole family! Someone will come along and take over the job, but there will be another Gene. I know this, not only should there be a statute made for Gene... but I think there is no doubt, the radio booth at Doak needs to be named after him.
