"An aggressive Gene Fullmer, of West Jordan, pounded out a 10 round decision over Philadelphia's Gil Turner last night in a slugfest that left even the fans breathless. The bout was a stand-up, hard-hitting affair from the opening bell and though both fighters obviously were arm-weary, they mixed it up as wildly in the 10th round as in the 1st. Turner drew first blood by cutting Fullmer's lower lip in the 3rd round. But Gene came back in the 4th to open a gash over Turner's left eye. When the referee and sole judge, former heavyweight champion James J. Braddock, announced the decision the hometown crowd of 14,000 rose to their feet, cheering." -United Press

Fullmer used his head as a third fist….and elbows as a fourth and fifth.

This fight never should have been made. Fullmer was a big MW and Neanderthal. Gil was a natural WW. Gil’s management was very brave and without question Blinky Palermo forced Gil into this fight. Blinky was the mob kingpin of Philly. In lock step with Frankie Carbo. Gil was another WW would have destroyed Mayweather and most Mayweather butt kissers don’t even know who Gil was.
