I guess everybody can relate to this unreleased bit with Mr. Gene Hoglan! How did you discover metal music and what was your journey like up until today?
He is a very nice person. I met him a long time ago when he was in Death. Didn't know who he was. I just remember seeing this bohemith dude in combat boots using an artillery warshell as a effect bell. 😂😂😂 Then proceed to play some of the most brutal stuff I had ever heard at that time... Then proceeds to Play a beautiful 1/2 time shuffle. Followed by 50 ways to leave your lover. I worked at the bar...and being a drummer, it was probably one of the coolest shows i've ever seen... Plus 1 of the coolest people I had ever. Sound check was actually better than the show!!! Thanks again for all the tips Gene!!!
It's so good to hear Gene talk about his background with music. You honestly can tell a little about a drummer with their open world of musical tastes by how they play. I was only a teenager when Dark Angel did Leave Scars, but man he was my drummer as a metal kid. I always looked up to him. He's such a nice dude. I do wish he'd stop being so damn busy and do something again with Devin Townsend. Lol! Thank you drumtalk for all these videos on my favorite drummers. Morgan Agren also one of them.
