Leonard Skinner was my second cousin, on my father's side. His mother, my Aunt Emro, went to my wedding. She was 83, at that time. Cousin Leonard was a good man. I remember when I was about seven or eight years old (I'm 50), my brother had Lynyrd Skynyrd's album. I think that was 1974. He and his wife (my Aunt Rosemary) were visiting. I brought out the album, which my brother had (he was six years older than me) and presented it to my aunt. I said, "Aunt Rosemary, this band has the same name as cousin Leonard". She said, "Shhh, we don't talk about that!" ;) By the way, he suspended the band for so long from school, for not cutting their hair, that they dropped out of high school. They decided to name the band after him. They called it the 'Leonerd Skinnerd band", because he was the biggest nerd they knew., My cousin tried to sue them. They changed the 'e's to 'y's. And we got the Lynyrd Skynyrd band! :)
Awesome!! Never knew that! And to think if i didn't catch this info here on RU-vid and wikipedia, i would of went to my grave never knowing this! Thank you Jeanine!
If you think Coach Skinner was a hard ass,my 7th grade gym teacher was the true definition of a hard ass If you used any profanity in his class he would go in his office grab a bar of soap carve your name in it and after class he would gather the class around the drinking fountain and the he would make you take a bite out of the bar of soap chew on it a little and then he would allow you to rinse out your mouth the whole time the rest of the class would be cheering you on.Happened to me once was I embarrassed.
They don't know what hard is my sixth-grade gym teacher for not dressing out made me do sit ups for the whole gym period 45 minutes long. I was a hard headed kid so I refused I went a whole week doing this and I'm telling you the truth it was sit ups for 45 straight minutes. I can't remember how many I did in a period but man it made me strong as an ox. After the first day I couldn't stand up straight for hours my stomach hurt so bad I cried. Sorry about the poor grammar they couldnt teach me that either lol.
I would just like to say that Coach Leonard Skinner was at Lake Shore Junior High School (now Lake Shore Middle School) in 1965-1968. Not Lee High School. I know this because I attended Lake Shore Junior High with Bob Burns and Gary Rosington. The coaches wanted me on the track team. I refused due to Coach Skinner's skin head rule for all the athletes. While his skin head rule didn't affect the non athlete students the assistant principal named Dean, established the business man's haircut rule.
