even if it isn't perfect, the sheer effort put in by this man is astounding. First of all, having the guts to up in front of a high school talent show and do it. Second, ABSOLUTELY KILLING IT!
most of the guitar strums just sound like he is mimicing the sound from the speakers until it kicks in at 3:27 with the metal, that when it really sounds like he is actually playing it
Yeah, it was probably just the pressure that made him choke some of the notes. He did good, probably better now too. I wish him luck and hope he makes a name for himself one day
for ONE kid to play a solo which involves two highly skilled guitarists this well is just brilliant. he blends the switches perfectly! 5:26 blew my mind. i hope elliott goes on to great things.
@@getarplayer5958 endurance wise its a professional song bro. Love metallica btw that's all I played growing up now that is where you gotta have 2 guitars and thats what we used to do is play all there songs one play rhythm and I play solo
I’ve watched a lot of guitar based talent shows with kids playing and he misses some notes for sure but holy shit he’s incredible at such a young age and no one covers this song in talent shows and one of the best solos of all time. This videos and kid kicks ass for so many reasons.
I spent the first 5 years of my playing days learning this solo. After playing it in several local classic rock cover bands, I got pretty darn close to the original recording. Several people told me I played it better than any other player they had ever seen. If they only knew the HOURS I spent practicing it…they’d understand why. BTW, playing the entire solo by yourself CORRECTLY will wear your fingers out! 😮
Takes balls in general! Playing any piece on any instrument in front of a crowd is really nerv wracking, even easy stuff you've been practicing for hours everyday for months. It's like your body becomes hyper aware of everything you see, touch, and think and start to second guess yourself 😅 This was well performed, just kept moving past the mistakes.
I gigged drums for years. Mostly with southern rock bands. Jammed Skynyrd so much I can't take to hear it anymore. This kid is good. He was really nervous. He has the chops. He's better than Dave Hlubek, who did the free Bird solo on the molly Hatchet live album.
It would have helped him if he had a pedal for switching to lead. Doing that in front of a crowd would make me nervous too. Plus, he's playing in front of people he has to attend school with. They like it too. That's an adrenaline rush.
@@qua7771 He's doing southern rock....Skynyrd. They don't use pedals and that bullshit. Search every Skynyrd vid on Earth. You find one of them using a pedal. They don't believe in that crap.
@@petezereeeah This kid's sound man isn't going to boost the solo signal for him. Besides, hes playing through a Line 6. Of course Skynyrd didn't use pedals that didn't exist in that era.
@@williamsuper213 dude, I know right. Just saw them live, too bad Gary died before I got to see them, but even after all these years, they are still wickedly great at playing. I do with that Bob and Allen got more credit.
Holy camoly. Dunno why this showed up in my recommended feed but glad it did. Was almost jumping up and down willing him to keep shredding away. So impressed!! Even with minor errors he kept going, kept his flow. Epic!!! 👍👍👍
On the record "Pronounced", that's Allen Collins playing the lead by himself at the end. However, Gary Rossington is playing the slide. When Steve Gaines joined the band, and they were playing live, he would jump in an double lead with Allen at the end while Gary played rhythm. Amazing guitarists, all. Too, maybe we ought to give a shout out to Leon Wilkeson. Some of the bass runs he did on 'Free Bird' on the "One More From The Road" albumn just shreds it.
But on the studio album "Pronounced", I believe Ed played bass on Freebird according to a number of internet posts. In the live performances, I think Ed played slide guitar along side Gary on Freebird.
He did an awesome job, when you can play this 95% of the way without missing a note and missing one every now and then, that is some insane talent for a kid at this age, it is insane!
Hell yes, when I saw the line 6 I knew this shit was gonna have heart, lol this is exactly like so many talent shows circa 2009 fucking memory lane here y'all. \mm/
Great job Eric! One of my all time favorites. Saw the classic Lynryd Skynryd lineup in Philly back in June 77 a few months before the crash. What an incredible live band. 90,000 plus at the old JFK Stadium. Actually found audio of the show on RU-vid.
Dude you got me rockin' out on my lunch break, love this song, way to go, you tackled a song most are afraid to try, hats off to you keep up the good work and keep on rockin'! 🤘
@@RastafaMan For older people, 3 years is nothing, an instant. Perhaps your perspective of what "today" is in the context of what he meant by that is different than his?
During the begining with the back tracks playing, i wish he would have done a little slide guitar. But dang, he kicked butt on the solo. Keep on rocking young man.
not likely actually, this in Texas which is considered a southern state. they probably know freebird, sweet home alabama, and the name Lynyrd Skynyrd at the least
These comments are always so ignorant to today's culture. Freebird is really well known in meme culture, music history in general, movies, etc. It's not some secret song or exclusive secret club only men with pick up trucks and Oakley sunglasses are allowed into. So, no. It's not true. You are incorrect.
