I’d say if anyone should be helping Gene out financially, it’d be Judy Van Zant. Without Gene she would’ve never had been able to uphold the blood oath to never tour again as Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Yeah that pisses me off that after helping out Judy she wouldn’t do anything to help him out! Especially Johnny. Gary’s gone now so he has no reason to have any bad feelings towards Gene.

Gene my last name is Crunk. And I coined my bad luck as having Crunk Luck. Heck I even wrote & recorded a song after it. So I know where you're coming from man. And I had the wrecks & disability just like you, so I'm familiar. I've never been on a plane, though. I'm a huge Skynyrd fan! I'm surprised we never met through music. Been to Jacksonville once right after Leon died. I was good friends with Jo Jo & we did some shows together a few yrs before she died. Gene I would love to help you bud but it looks like we're in the same boat, I'm on social security and they only give just enough to barely survive and now I know why people take their own lives or sit around all day and get very unhealthy but you seem in good spirits man. Johnny making all that money all this time, should have carried out Ronnies wishes and pay Gene. He left his union job for real Skynyrd band. Stop being selfish and help this man out. Do a fund raiser at a few shows. They have made a ton of money, they can spare some of that.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is officially done. Gary was the last surviving member of the original band. That should be the end of it. Gene made a deal with Ronnie and unfortunately Ronnie passed away 46+ years ago. Gene made the choice to give up his job and that was the chance he took. Sorry for Gene but we all must live with our decisions.
Gene should've been set for life after the plane crash! He was just too loyal and honorable to sell out his best friend's family. I'm with you, Gene! Looking forward to helping as much as I can, Brother.
