The original "Match Game" was on NBC from 1962 to 1969. The classic "Match Game" everyone remembers was on CBS from 1973 to 1982. Afterwards came the strange "The Match Game - Hollywood Squares Hour" in 1984 on NBC, then a bad 1990 revival of "Match Game" on ABC, then a horrible revival years later in syndication, and now the current revival on ABC with Alec Baldwin. At least they resurrected the famous theme tune and classic set design on the current revival. Still, all of the revivals are lame without Gene Rayburn.
You should do Peter Tomarken next followed by Bob Eubanks, Jim Peck and Bob Goen. Bill Rafferty would be an option as well but I'am not sure if he's done that many shows.
As I was the person who managed to get Mort Garson to personally hand over all of the game show themes he managed to retain (yes, I not only met him but he welcomed me into his home), I can't help but wonder if the music for "The Amateur's Guide To Love" was created/used previously and why he didn't provide me with a copy of it...
So Gene was fired from Break the Bank because he was too old? Talk about age discrimination. Not to mention his replacement wasn't as good. Speaking of age discrimination, is that the reason Peter Marshall wasn't chosen to co-host the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour? That's too bad because I would've liked it even more if he was.
@@LittleRockElevators That's not what I read according to Peter's autobiography. He stated that he was never even approached to host the show at all. Never the less, he was actually glad the show only lasted one season and no more.
@@mitchellries256 I forgot about his autobiography. But you're right. The good thing he was able to host Tom Bergeron version of Hollywood Squares during game show week and was on In Living Color doing the the dirty dozens Hollywood Squares skit.
@@LittleRockElevators And I was wrong about Gene being let go from Break The Bank because of age. It was because he got into disagreements with the shows producers. Not sure what it was about though.
After years of hearing how bad Break The Bank was, I see why it didn’t work with Gene. There was no place for a personality todo anything. The mechanics of the game left no time to do anything unique
