In my opinion Gene and Vern Gosdin were the 2 most underrated country singers of all time. Both are in my top 5 favorite country singers of all time. Amazing voices.
Yes sir you would be right George jones Merle haggard Gene Watson Vern Gosdin Alan Jackson my top five favorite emotion. I forget Keith Whitley I know that six.
This record is 100% killer, no filler. He has so much vocal power, and emotional range too. ...and the band is so tight. What's incredible is....now 50 years later he is almost BETTER. HOW? Only Tom Jones can pull that off, I thought. I'm going to go back to my Vern Gosdin and check him out again because you have got some great taste, imho. For me Gene's just right at the pinnacle. I also do have to add keith whitley, thinking about his singing with Ralph Stanley and Clinch Mountain boys which can be just bone chilling. Sometimes Vince Gill hits that way also. Patti Loveless, George Jones, ....uh-oh I'm getting on a roll
He sure sings " When my daddy danced" as good as anyone. Eddie Noack is a great country song writer. And a great singer of some very powerful songs. Good choice by Gene.
Well, quite a debut album. Hes a master of the art. Even way back then. And to put together a band like hes done shows how good Gene really is. I loved it all. Thanks for this. Respect from MAINE USA >>> just listen to that steel player making it , and me cry !! Dang , bubba , thats good stuff !!
Excellent discography of this great country music singer. My favourite songs performed by him are Carmen, Old Love Never Dies, Got No Reason For Going Home, among others. It's a privilege to get to listen to that debut album. Thanks for sharing that stuff with us.
I has purchase, since is first LP (thanks Bear Family Records - Germany), the totally of all LP'S. This LP are now "out of service" and you give us (and me) the possibility to hear Gene's recordings. Best wishe from France. Jo (subscriber at your channel)
I love this Classic Album cover...I have the original vinyl record (If I'm a Fool for Leaving) I'm going to listen to the whole album. Thank you for posting.
I've heard lots of people talkabout the fantastic steel guitar in Gee's songs and I must admit to being mesmerized by the steel. But, I think Gene's use of piano is just as great. Gene is definitely a great and underrated singer and live performer and his band is superb always. What a great talent.
