Thank you, Douglas MacArthur! You're a true hero, staying true to your word as you landed in the beaches of Palo, Leyte. Our greatest military war hero is an American, isn't that weird?
@@Bugsfuckingbunny Rizal is only a hero because Americans and the Japanese placed him to be one. As America and Japan occupied the Philippines (not the same time ofc) they placed Rizal as the Philippines "main" hero because they wanted the Filipinos to look up at a hero who fought through thought and words. It's easier to suppress the people that way than to have people revolt with guns and swords like Bonifacio would have wanted
Gen. Douglas MacArthur is one of Filipinos greatest and real hero. I will never forget his history with the Philippines and other countries. I hope others won't forget him also.
Then why, after all that American blood for the Filipinos, are American expats not granted a reciprocal green card in the Philippines? Any American should be not only able to retire there, but welcomed and allowed to buy a house. Is that asking too much, to be treated equally both ways after all that blood shed for the Filipino people? Green cards should work both ways, reciprocally. That would be a real "thank you."
@@ComfortsSpecter Green card holders in the U.S. never have to change their citizenship. They are not dual citizens. They remain Chinese, Filipino, Taiwanese, Thai ... whatever .. yet can stay, work and buy a home in the U.S. the rest of their lives.
Unlike most politicians, he kept true to his word. If only Philippine politicians were like this, our country wouldn't be so corrupt jfc just look at it.
Thank You For Saving Our Country I Will Never Forget You McArthur Salute To You And Keeping Your Promise *I SHALL RETURN* We Apreciatte Your Help To Our Country *Salute* Your're A True Hero
Seated behind him is Australia’s great wartime leader John Curtin whos relationship with MacArthur was very close. He cops enormous negative comments from revisionists but without the power of his personality, Australia, the Phillipines, South Korea and even Japan would have been worse off without his determination and leadership. As an Australian i thank him.
Thanks, for that. Glory to all the heroes of liberation. Mr MacArthur, and to this Mr Curtin as well you mention. God Bless them and may they rest in paradise.
I think that the bond between the United States and the Philippines has been a great boon to both of us. I say this especially here in Norfolk (General MacArthur was raised here) & he was one of my boyhood heroes... -- All of my life I have worked with and lived around Filipino immigrants. I have been richer for the experience and also have a permanent taste for their cuisine. I have actually wished to visit for sometime.
If it were a real "thank you" and welcome after all that bloodshed, the Philippines would offer RECIPROCAL green cards for American expats in the Philippines. It would work both ways. Americans could also buy a house, which is prohibited.
I Can´t compare, Cesar was killed for many mistakes, one of this he was against freedom. Macartur was for the freedom and tons of Philipino helped him.
@ajferet his campaign from Australia to the Phillipines to the doorstep of Japan was incredible. Patton lost way more men walking a mile than "Dugout Doug " did under far worse logistical circumstances.
@emmthreejonny That man could have taken on China and hindered their ability to become a Communist super power if the government only let him. One of the greatest Generals to ever be apart of the American Armed Forces.
@@localextremist2839 no. Stalin was rebuilding the ussr and consolidating his gains in Eastern Europe. Mao wanted him to join the fight. Stalin said no.
@emmthreejonny I understand your points however he was not judeged harshly, in comparison to the treatment given to Admiral Husband Kimmel, Commander of the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor.
I cannot remember where this is from its been a while since I uploaded this but its likely from Archive public domain. If you want to use it go right ahead.
Agreed: Ike was chosen precisely because FDR and Churchill knew he could maintain the military alliance between the U.S. and British forces. None could argue he did a superb job at that. And I do agree that Overlord couldn't have been pulled off without him there. Also, Ike knew the Allies would need Patton in Europe and that's why he fought to make sure he wasn't dismissed. I'll give Ike that much. I still find that he made some poor strategic choices at times. El Alamein was all Monty had.
@emmthreejonny i cant believe it at first but the there were pictures with description at the university with the General in the school wearing academic toga but he was very old at that time when the picture was taken....i guess he was 70+
It did happen after Pearl Harbor...directly after Pearl Harbor. There was no time to retaliate. Pearl Harbor, Guam, and the Philippines were attacked simultaneously. That and the soldiers on the island had grown complacent. There was no time to muster up the forces necessary and he did hold out as long as he could.
Because Philippines was reclaimed, and us Filipinos probably think he's so great and mighty now. It's possible that your statement was true, and I respect your opinion, I'd even want to research that thanks to you.
Filipinos of the Greatest generation hold Macarthur in high regard. OK, he had a blackout. But a few questions: why were rifles he requested for the Philippine Army a searly as 1938 not released by Washington. The Philippines had US $50 million in 1940 dollars deposited in trust. President Quezon of the Commonwealth of the Philippines had repeatedly asked that amount to be able to equip at least one regular Philippine Army Division. The amount came only on the eve of WW2..
I love how this same guy tried convincing the then president of the US to launch 38 nukes at Chinese forces moving into korea in the begining of the Korean war.
a Pre Planned move, the idea was to dig in on Corregidor and wait out the Siege that would follow while the US Navy fought its way to the Islands to give support, the problem was Pearl Harbor, not everyone knew the full extent of the losses there. the poor wretched holed up in The Rock were constantly waiting for a relief that would never come, Everything that could have been done was done, the problem is that war is sickly unpredictable.
Gen MacArthur has to return to the Philippines because he owns vast of lands in Mindanao and Visayas, he wants to recover his huge coconut, pineapple and sugar plantations...this is why he guaranteed the world that he'll return to the Philippines..this is the truth...only a few trusted people close to the General knew about this !!! Philippines to him is his second home !!!
@elu296 This "American Caesar"'s actions in dealing with President Truman crossed the line that any Commissioned Officer in the Armed Forces of the United States should ever take. Insubordination would be a term that does not even begin to approach the severity of his breach of conduct.
That's not diplomacy, that's called management. CEO's do it all the time: managing everyone under them making sure people do their job, while dealing with bruised egos, differing opinions, and competency. That doesn't require diplomacy, it requires good management skills. And any good manager would have realized, after awhile, that Patton and Bradley could be better trusted with resources, than Monty, who took forever to get anything done. Even the Brits wondered about him at times.
Alfredo Curay MacArthur was outraged when he discovered that we gave the Japanese more aid then you patriots, “Give me ten thousand Filipinos and I shall conquer the world!” Sad that our relations have kinda gone down the drain ever since your new president.
@DunlopDaytona I did get to Ike's and Monty's and Churchill's (as well as several minor figures)... I really enjoyed Manchester's "The Last Lion" about Winnie though. --- I don't think that President Truman was a communist sympathizer, but that there were figures in his administration (inherited from Roosevelt) that were stuck in a socialist mode.
The Philippines was indefensible from the very start - too much coastline for a limited army. MacArthur's hopes lay on rear-guard action - to hold as long as possible to wait for a relief force. But with the destruction of the US Navy at Pearl Harbor, the remaining naval assets needed for such a relief would have constituted putting Britain to the back-burner. Roosevelt deemed Britain more important than his troops in the Philippine Islands.
@ajferet Patton also designed his own uniforms. Great general, as big a prima donna as MacArthur, but Patton got WAY more people killed in his campaigns.
