Two-Lane Blacktop captures the Dukes of Hazard General Lee Charger flying through the air behind Cobo Center for the kick of the 2017 Detroit Autorama. What a sight to see!
Doesn’t matter if it’s real or not, if you’ve watched the dukes of hazzards then you cherish the moments when that car flies through the air, eventually meeting its inevitable doom. You may hate it, but I love it.
Holy cow that was an awesome jump! I'm surprised that they let them do that so close to Cobo and the river. I didn't expect anything that big for a car show, sweet!
There’s a guy who builds replicas with reproduction sheet metal. AMD sells pretty much every piece of sheet metal on these chargers, so he uses those pieces, welds them onto a stripped down crown vic chassis, thank goodness. These chargers are legendary and should be preserved at all costs
Much of the bodywork is rough fiberglass replicas over an already rusted/wrecked shell. A lot of the trim is aluminum tape. This was not a driveable classic that got destroyed.
me i think they do a great job not to many people have the skill to take a "wreck" and turn it in to something cool for all DUKES OF HAZZARD fans to see live and exprience the General Lee making a jump not only that who was on the set of the series when they did a jump back then very few id say THANK GUYS for keeping the spirit of the show alive and risking your lives just so a fan can see a remarkable jump made from the General Lee keep up the work and dont pay any attention to the haters ........I hope one day ill be able to come to the the show Keep up the good work and keep them Generals flying and be safe ....................
Damn, how did I miss this! They sure didn't advertise! "Who said we only jumped real cars in the 80's!" ..if only someone was there to catch it at 0:18 :(
Lawrence Grott They did use authentic ones in the show because they were dime a dozen scrap back then. Now a ton of people treasure them so they arent as cheap.
I know that for the jumps of the original series 400 kilos of sand were put on the rear hood so that the weight of the engine does not make it plummet forward (it is evidenced in that in the original series after each jump the part rear bent down sharply when hitting the ground)
The car was rusted out. I was there to watch them jump. Theres a video of it after the jump you can see in the trunk where its all rusted. Just type Detroit General Lee jump car
Hilarious! You know, on the show this “it wrecked,” thing, happened with every jump, and was edited out, meanwhile, we kids just sat at home thinkin “Chargers could fly!” And we were like “Yeeeeeaaaah Baby!” Every little kid wanted one of those “flyin cars!”
What a waste of a beautiful car... I know there is still good bunch of them but still. These cars won’t be around forever, and doing this isn’t doing much good.
WetMoose this car was totaled before this rusted completely and ruined all the cars in these meet ups are broken down cars they use for a jump that’s it then the motor is taken out and re used and the body is left to die even tho it was already dead they never take a perfect General
@@vurtane well i call bull on that one cos if they were rusted out heaps of junk then they would be deemed to dangerous to drive let alone jump that would be stupid wouldn't it?
+Invincible Extremes Muscle Cars Garage That goddamn piece of junk you saw flying through the air wasn't even restorable! The parts you see on that thing was fake, look at the tail lights.. Also the car was going to the scrap yard anyways. If you look closely at the interior you can see how rusty that thing is.
I understand that said charger came from nothing, but STILL that is a REAL charger rusted out or not..... Reason why other stunt jumpers are turning to building charger out of older cop cars( IE the Portland police CrownVic General Lee) Literally chopped off the entire body and fitted a whole new body to said crown Vic looked identical to a real charger
I once read an article on Hot Rod magazine where the guy responsible to prepare all the cars for the Fast and Furious franchise said we shouldn't be sorry for all the muscle cars we see being destroyed on those silly movies. He personally goes to junkyards all over the country and only buys the cars which are way beyond restoration. Those cars receive tons of bondo, a nice paint job, a few new parts (grille, headlights, etc) just enough to look good from far away and a running engine and tranny, then they are ready for destruction.
CatcherOfBass But no idea how to keep it from nose diving... not that it would have saved it, it just wouldn't have bent the front end upwards. Still cool though.
tripjet999 lol my ex roommate kept left my front door unlocked in every nights he come home... I had to wake up in late of night like 1-3am to lock the door cus’ I got lot of high value of furnitures around.. it’s kind of annoying of him! So I kicked him out and now he has new place at his own! In apt, later on.. his stuffs got stolen like flat tv, his laptop and his camera, iPhone, etc pretty much whole his life is stolen.. Shame on him! Police said no force entery but front door was never locked! 👌🏻😐 I wonders when he will learn! 🤦♂️
320 1968 and 69 Chargers were used to portray the GL on the series. out of the ruffly 180k produced by Dodge in 68/69. Yeah the show didn't even put a dent in destroying chargers. Most were destroyed in accidents and before they became a desired classic in the 70s and 80s they were merely sent off to the crusher when they were tired and broken down.
all you people complaining about the charger need to go to our Facebook page and look at the pictures of the junk cars before we jump them then maybe you'll understand we are not harming any nice cars these are rusted Dodge Charger shells that have no Vin no title they were parts cars that were parted out so good charges could be put back on the road and they were left to rot so this is what we do we obviously must make them look too good to fool you all to think they are really nice cars so we're laughing all at all of you who think they are nice
have seen some of cars you use and totally agree with you "ohio dukes",would rather see them go out in a blaze of glory than sat around rusting into the ground....keep doing what your doing...lots of people do appreciate it :)
Northeast Ohio Dukes rusted shell is still a Charger. wouldn't expect a Yankee to understand this crap. to y'all it's a cool car with a flag on top. you're just wrecking shit and further increasing the value and scarcity of this car. I'd love one like this for tge simple fact I'd like to haul ass in the Pride of the South. but my dumbass wouldn't be doing useless ass jumps. morons.
Northeast Ohio Dukes my Dad bought a rusted out shell back in the 80's and took three years and totally rebuilt the 1969 Charger. painted it Cobalt Blue with a Black Racing stripe around the tail. and put a V8 up under the Hood. took pride in what he did. and the car started as a Rusted. empty. shell.... much like your organization.
The Dukes of Hazzard ensured there are more chargers restored today than there would ever have been , thousands of GL replicas around the world cossetted by their owners , a whole industry in spare parts and accessories. Howe many B body chargers would have rusted away in junkyards were it not for the popularity of the show. The cars used for the jumps are basically wrecks so dont lose sleep over them :-)
Calm down folks! This was a stunt car built from a rusted out shell that used to be a Dodge Charger. There's a follow up video to this on RU-vid and you'll see this car was a Bondo Bandit fitted with a roll cage.
Mabey you should trash a hyundai every now and then to keep these complainers happy lol.Anyone who got behind the wheel of one of these would dream of doing this. I give the driver and northeast ohio dukes credit. Thanks for keeping the dream going.. and the flag on the roof!
The car was junk before the jump. It was just a shell held together by bondo, the headlights, grill and taillights were just decals, rust through the rear quarter panels, no vin or title. It was a rust bucket.
Chris Bradshaw Nah pretty sure they use junked Chargers, dress em up nice for jumping but they’re really just empty shells that would rot anyway, too far gone for full restoration
To all that complain that another Charger bit the dust this Charger was a basket case that was not worth restoring I was there when it was jumped and look at the car after ward and saw that it was rusted out carcass of a Charger ,All the good parts were taken off. The grill was a fake and the rear tail panel was also fake.
65 mustang motorsports dude, it literally had no floor pan, or trunk pan, thats how bad it rusted out, and the roof was cut off, thank that idiot that destroyed it, not them
Autorama start on every February in Detroit. General Lee car jumped near by Cobo Hall next to Detroit river. I do not see any snow on the ground also I do not see any ice floating on the water. That was Woodward Dream Cruise day on August. I am right about that. DETROIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS STUPID! It's like burning the American Flag. Why destroy something so beautiful. They should have jumped a new crappy Charger instead. Shit like this makes me wonder about our this country.
believe me when i tell you that charger that looks so nice looks nice because a few of us know how to put make-up on a turd . cant tell you what part is really a good part to be saved the roof is from a junk car 1/2 rusted away fire wall was wrecked years before and it was rusted beyond driver repair quality k frame rusted beyong salvage for restoration kinda like an old pair of sneekers what do you do with them ? duct tape few times ?smilie faces on duct tape till you are done putting tape you throw them out , beautiful is an understatment the quarter panels were my project to try to protect to use over and over if possible but im not in the crew any more but i wont bash that . they do what is called the generals last glory ride what better way to go out ?
destroy some thing that was already destroyed ? i built 80% that car and you should go to northeastohio.net and look at the junk we have to work with it is not a perfect car can't tell you the hours i spent knocking bondo off the car to make it look like it does. its a mask for a 5 second jump
Man they're some really stupid uneducated people making comments on this. First off if you don't like it don't watch it. Second the Charger was nothing more than a basket case without a title. Basically worthless. The NOD put it out to pasture in the best possible way. One more run instead of the crasher. From all the Dukes fans we love it and understand it. For all the haters go troll elsewhere. YeeHaw!
They will never get it junk is junk . i put a few of these jump cars together , and i know first hand junk is junk weld rust to rust bondo to bondo chrome tape oh yes they are worth a mint from 1000 feet lol .
To all those here saying “another model of my dream car has been trashed.” Be happy they can STILL even DO these stunt shows. There’s been controversies these days over the flag on the roof of the car.
I think this wreck was intentional and it was for politital reasons. Anyone would know that you need a landing ramp or of course it's gonna hit grill first.
............. and another classic destined for that scrapyard in the sky............on the flip side, the more that get pointlessly destroyed for cheap laughs, it pushes the value up for the genuine owners that cherish these vehicles
Even if it was rusted beyond belief, it was fixed up very well. Someone would have probably liked to of had it for just show. Just because a car has no vin or title dose not mean it’s worthless. And there are better ways to jump the car so it doesn’t get as damaged in the process.
Hats off to the stuntmen/women for what they do for T.V. I wouldn't worry about the cars too much because master mopar guru Mark Worman can make em better than new.
Yeah, that was a stupid stunt. They should have had something in the road, like a pile of hay even, and have the General jump it and Rosco drive into it.
