Thank you for putting in so much work to not only cram so much information into these videos, but also for making it so accessible! Your language is direct, and effective, light enough for a motivated kid to grasp, but dense with knowledge. I appreciate you!
PPMD, thank you so much. this deepened the understanding of the game further. things like the importance of stage position and the mechanics of the light shield. and also the little things about marth's up b out of shield. ty i'm looking forward to part 2
Thankyou so much! You're recent content has really made me enjoy melee more, and watching it. You inspired me to get into it, and just about a month or two i found an old crt and bought a copy of melee to get into it. Keep up the great work!
This makes me happy for so many reasons. You've been my favorite player since I've started watching melee in 2014, and I'm just now switching over from Shiek to Marth. Thank you so much, PPMD. I can't wait to see you play again.
So many things to appreciate from this guide, it's the details that matter not only in the video, but People mentioned the Flag, there's the gc controller on the bed and the smash Ball on the shirt! Keep it up PP
I generally don't play melee, however I must state that you as my favorite marth player of all time are doing a great job so far, I hope to see more of your content in the future :D!
Hey PPMD. I just started playing melee again. I watched a highlight video of yours on RU-vid. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found you posted this guide. I hope your health is okay. Thanks for the guide
Hey, I just want to say that I really appreciate that you have a trans pride flag in the background. As a Trans smasher I sometimes feel alienated from this community
I'm sorry the community hasn't treated you the best, I'm glad you've still stuck with this amazing game!!! The smash community has been great to me and I hope you meet smashers that are more considerate and indicative of the community I've come to know and love
You're very welcome! Though I will say there are many who support you and your community as well. This poster was actually voted for by my Twitter for a sub goal I had and people rallied hard for it. So I hope you can see we have plenty of good here too. Thanks for being part of this community =)
Ppmd has been streaming melee Monday and Tuesday, and he is really great about answering questions. If you have any definitely check him out on twitch.tv/ppmd he does sub games as well.
@@PPMD1I don’t know if you will see this but i main Marth and have success with him (got first in my region) but Sheik feels more natural to me and i do better in a lot of MU. Could be a video idea for you since you are a dual main. Looking at “natural” character picks or why some characters feel better in some MU than your main
Great video. One point about the classification: Zoner is a very broad and basic category. While putting Marth in there is completely correct, it's definitely not the entirety of the character as you know because Melees top tiers have much more nuance than a basic character who could fit in a single category. M2K actually classifies him not only as a zoner but as a rushdown. He says this is because most of the time Marth has to be approaching in the matchups, and he should be pressuring the opponent frequently using his disjoints and dash dancing to bully them into bad positions that he can take advantage of. I think this is also partially correct but I don't think Zoner or Rushdown fit him completely as Melee just contains too much nuance for basic categorizations to apply. Another more nuanced category I think you touch on here that I learned through later smash games: Dominating. This is a subcategory of the glass cannon offense category which it could be said every Melee top tier is part of in some way or another. It's different from the rushdown or glass cannon styles though because it's more about abusing the sheer pressure the character can apply in advantage rather than necessarily having fast frame data or high risk moves. It's offensive in nature but relies on the power and pressure of the character as the threat rather than pure speed. Characters classified as dominating in later games are characters like Roy and Cloud. They have very bad disadvantages but when they are in advantage they absolutely dominate their opponents. They have both been called very similar to Melee Marth. I believe Dominating specifically fits Marth in Melee the best out of any category. As you said he's very much a characterized by his sheer pressure that he can apply by being able to hit your shield and trade without being hit himself. He abuses that disjoint to dominate his opponent in neutral and disadvantage in a way that no one else really can. He also suffers from this as when he makes a mistake and is no longer pressuring, he is very susceptible to attacks, more so than others. It seems to fit the character more accurately than any of the more basic categories can without adding exceptions or side notes. Anyway great video. Here is a link to some of the categories I was talking about (though this was for smash 4) supersmashbros.fandom.com/wiki/Character_Archetypes Hope you keep up the great content. I would also like to hear what you think about some of Zains advanced techniques like edge cancel dair and pivot setups and how they slightly change his playstyle. An analysis between the Marth styles of yourself, M2K, and Zain, would be very interesting.
You have no idea how long I've been wanting this I've wanted to main Marth for ages but I could just never wrap my head around him, so I ended up playing that dumb Fox character instead
Peepee emDee luvs youuu and mee, Bah dah doo doo, he flex the bird and the sword while he's stacking it up! Bow chica bow chia bow hes the legend that they speak of, the real deal. When pp runs through u, it's like a 3 piece meal! I talked to some guy once who's WAY better than me who said he played against PP before and he said it was insane playing against it, and that he was just on a whole nother level than everyone else. He said he couldn't imagine being that good at the game, but respected PPs playstyle even more because of it. Is this what happens at top level? Do the playstyles grow more diverse and different as the skill goes higher?
