Thank you! Otho Strahl was an ancestor on my grandmother's side. We've had the opportunity to visit and we receive the Dispatch Magazine from the Franklin Trust. We truly enjoy the history that continues to be shared.

Excellent illustration of BOF and this great General. Been to BOF three times and can't wait to get back there. I've been traveling the war trail for 32 years. Enjoyed every bit of it.

I grew up in Franklin and while I'm related to many Confederates I can't help but have a disgust for my ancestors and others supporting slavery so much they were willing to kill and to die. I'm eternally grateful to the Union for freeing the ancestors of many who would become my friends, classmates, coworkers and neighbors and for fighting to preserve the Union. I love the United States and can't fathom how life would be separated from her and how horrible it would be to live in a nation where government supported slavery still existed. God bless America and those who fought to create and preserve her.

I think you should revisit all the things in play at that moment in history. For example, TN refused to secede when the Deep South states, states that clearly seceded due to slavery, had seceded. You should ask "Why did TN refuse to secede at that point in time?" Then what changed and what compelled TN to secede (as did VA AR and NC)? If TN was all about slavery, they would have seceded with SC and the others. It did not....not until Lincoln required TN to make war on the Deep South did TN say....no we will not...forcing their secession.

Excellent video. My great grandfather fought with the 111th Ohio in the adjacent Union position. I'm always on the lookout of Ancestry DNA ancestors on either side.

Outstanding job Franklin Trust. Really nice interpretation. I'm surprised and saddened at the amount of development right around the battlefield. Keep doing your best to preserve what's left!

Good job. Pat Cleburne was one of the South's very top heroes, but Gist , Strahl and Granbury all very valiant.

not a single person on the side of slavery was a "hero" my own family of slave owners who fought in the war are proof of that....do not forget WHY this happend....slaves....people as property....never again

I believe it was Strahl who turned to his Tennesseans just before they made their charge, "Boys, this will be short but deadly."

Excellent video. Although General Strahl was born in the North, he chose to fight for the South because both of his grandmothers had been raised in the South and, through their strong influence, he became an ardent supporter of states' rights. I'm proud to say I'm a distant relative of General Otho French Strahl. “General Strahl was a model character, and it was said of him that in all the war he was never known to use language unsuited to the presence of ladies.”
