Thanks for nice video. My parents took me there in the 60s, back then there was an old 12x12 that had General Sherman carved into it with white painted letters we were able to walk up and place ours hands on it. Took my kids there about 18 years ago had a little fence around it. Thanks again for bringing back some fond memories.
Hey Josh just wanted to say great content man! Just discovered you through a friend and your channel is so wholesome and you always got a smile on your face from exploring Yosemite with your old man and going through your day at Disneyland with your wife, made my day seeing the great views narrated by a such a nice guy. Keep it up!
Hey Josh, I've been watching your stuff for a couple years now. I've never left a comment but finally I want to say you do a GREAT job on your videos. They are concise and to the point. Not to mention there is some great information along the way. Sometimes I watch one because I've been there and just want a walk down memory lane, other times I'm looking for ideas of places to go. Keep up the good work brother.
I've been there many times and remember years ago they had cabins and a cafeteria around that grove. It must be at least 10 years ago or more that that stuff was removed.
The drive was long, but so worth it! The hike to get to the tree was simple, but depending on your age and weight, the hike back to your car might be difficult because it is uphill. I recommend bringing a trekking pole and definitely come with at least one more person. Don't be discouraged though. Most of the visitors I saw were middle aged to almost elderly and almost all of them had no trouble getting to the tree and back up.
I was there as a little girl with my family, and again in 2009 with my son. Awesome to see my old friend again. I thought it was already 3,000 years old? Thanks
Fun place me and my family was there the last weekend of june... same here..they where hardly anyone there.. perfect weather too we even saw a mama bear and her two Cubs down by the big tree trail!! Have Fun and be careful and also Moro rock Trail is Pretty cool
Looks like a lovely trail! We don't usually get a lot of time to explore CA but this place really makes me want to. And what a lovely feeling of having the whole place to yourself almost!
Ha! Just spent the day there yesterday. Did this trail, the Tokopah Falls trail, and Moro Rock. Saw many more people than you saw, but still an incredible day! Thanks again for these great videos!
@@californiathroughmylens having never been there before, I don't think the crowds were too bad. Definitely plenty of parking at each location we visited.
my wife and I went to see general Sherman, on the way back to the parking lot we moved ahead of the rest of the sightseers. About two thirds of the way up a big black bear was moving about 30 yards behind us diagonally and eventually moved ahead of us and he kept going. It was cool to see. If you are going to sequoia from Visalia through three rivers the drive up the mountain has a LOT of hairpin turns. If you go back down the same way the brakes on the car takes a bad beating so make sure you have good pads on your brakes.
Dude this is awesome !! I've gone to a lot of places just of your website references and this is the first time I see your channel on RU-vid , what are the odds two days before my first trip to Sequoia!!
@@californiathroughmylens My first visit was in March 1998, never saw so high snow again. 2,5m and more, that was great. Road had dead end and we must turn and go back. Was great 👍❗👍🇩🇪👋
I spent a week camping and fishing on the lower Owens river about 5 miles north of bishop then went to the June loop at mammoth to fish. The scenery was out of this world spectacular. The stream fishing was outstanding. Fish was delicious. The flesh on the natural was red almost like salmon.
Just curios. Was this a day trip or you planned stay in a Hotel or Cabin or somewhere? Given the covid situation, just want to know how to plan the stay?
Something just went through my mind. Can you provide links to the trailhead locations in google maps? Yes, we all can do the research ourselves, but that way we'd have the EXACT locations your are talking about. Enjoying your content thoroughly! We cannot wait to get back to California ...
Your pop rocks!, "poprocks" Another great video. When is amy due? You should post a poll or video. Let s all guess day, time, sex or weight. Your first baby?
@@californiathroughmylens Congratulations: Nothing in this beautiful world, compares to having kids. Changes you. I adore my kids. You guys are gonna be the best parents ever.
When people think of trees, they think tall. So it is easy to confuse "largest tree in the world" with tallest tree in the world. General Sherman is the largest in volume (more wood), but it is not the tallest, in fact there are many taller trees. The tallest of all is also in California, the name is Hyperion at 380 feet, followed by the Himalayan Cypress in Tibet, Menara in Malaysia, Centurion in Australia, among others.
This is actually my full time job. I started the website 8 years ago and ran it on the side for 3 and a half years. Once it gained enough traffic I was able to make it my full time job and I have been full time for the last 5 years.
@@californiathroughmylens that explains a lot...lol. I enjoy your videos but always wondered how you managed to go to so many places. I'm lucky to go on one or two trips per year and your lifestyle is what I want.
I live in Visalia, only an hr away🤗🤗If heading to Sequoia National Park don't forget to stop at Sierra Subs in Three Rivers...best subs ever, they have ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews!!👍🥪
General Sherman is the largest tree in the world but it’s not the tallest the tallest tree in the world is Hyperion and it’s 379 feet but general Sherman is older than Hyperion general Sherman is over 2000 years old Hyperion is like 600 years old I think

There are actually coast redwoods that are likely bigger (not just taller) than the General Sherman. The science scoop is here: redwoodcoastparks.com/coast-redwoods-are-the-real-giant-sequoias/
@@ccwstraightshooter9761 Yes, it is true. Hyperion has a volume of around 530 cubic meters. General Sherman has a volume of 1487 cubic meters. The source is the National Park Service.
