It's not difficult, but you have to learn and manage. Another thing is that if you can't manage your home, maybe you shouldn't invest on your own. Please have a look at the details guys. This strategy tested the hole chart from the beginning. BTC had a price of around 3 USD in 2011. If you bought BTC for 1000 USD in 2011 than you had around 300 BTC and if you hold and sell this 10 years later at around 69k than you would have over 20 millions....please take care and have a deeper look inside those bullshit videos. If you want to become rich you had to learn hard and you have to learn more about risk management and technical analysis.

@@justMeFromDe Yeah, I saw the ChatGPT craze and created a video on this -- perhaps a bit misleading. I'm questioning if it was a good video to create because many are missing the point. Algotrading is incredibly difficult -- but a non-programmer CAN use ChatGPT and Tradingview to backtest a trading strategy. That's pretty impressive. It took me over four years to get to the point where I could trade profitably algorithmically. ChatGPT could have sped this up significantly. But yes, this strategy is purposely overfit like I mention in the initial comment.

I need to say something: as a Mt4 EA optimiser, I can say that the strategy my be over optimised. That means that there's no guarantee that it would be as good in forward testing. But interesting video.
I would say not so much overoptimized, but it gives good results because it trades from BTC's origin (2012) until today. Buy and hold from 2012 also gives great results, but huge drawdowns. This strategy improves over buy and hold, but you would need to go back in time to trade this profitably. If you trade this starting today this is not profitable.
Its easy to test a strategy on past data and make it profitable. but executing it live with live/current data is another story and thers a reason why the majority of traders loose money
I copy pasted it and it "just" showed 1.97 mill. I edited ATR Lenght from 10 to 9 and Factor from 3 to 2.99 and I got 69.9 million. Edit: Okay my newest strategy is absolute nuts. Same $1000, 225 million net profit, 77% profitable and profit factor is 26.4 on 30m chart. same shit on Ethereum 16.6 billion net profit but with only 14.8 profit factor.

My concern is that you’re using parameters for the data that you see so we should expect the results to be good. You should try the same strategy in out of sample data and ensure that it still gives good results, before trading it live.

You actually can, all you have to do is load your strategy in Tradingview, select your strategy in the intended instrument, in my case forex, generate an alarm if you want otherwise let it run for whatever period you want, mine two days is good, then you check the performance for that period. End of suffering.
Dude, your drawdown is 49%!!! That is basically an account blow up 99% of the time. There are no magic bullets, there is only education, determination, perservereance, learning, growing, analyizing, and getting better next time. It takes YEARS. Chat GPT helps write the code quicker than having a human do it. That's all. If it was easy, we would all be millionaires.

Very nice video. However, there is one big flaw. You are ONLY using the in sample results. It is easy with almost any trading product to optimize in sample (back testing) results to produce amazing results. But once you go out of sample things may be very different. I would not want the viewers to think that this is easy money. Experienced traders know that, but novices may be confused.
@Texownian It's kinda. It does work, but what he's never commenting is that this backtest took almost 20 years. Yeah it reached the money, doesn't mean it was fast. And since bitcoin only went up, now we can really see it as a ingrained market, like everything else. The strategy won't work on normal markets, only in these huge uptrending markets like crypto, but you gotta know the crypto that's going to be uptrending. So just predict the future and you're good

GPT does not know about V5 since it came out after it's cutoff date. I've found it better to ask it to write in V4 (which it knows) then convert that in pinescript to V5.

I played with it a bit. I modified your code so that backtesting starts from 01 January 2021. The strategy tester records a loss of $118 from the starting capital of $1000... so not great. The concept is interesting though, I am going to play with it a bit more to see if I can get profitable returns from 2021 only.

Thankfully, there is a way to tell TradingView to use legacy V4 pinescript, allowing a mix of V4 and V5 code. I'll leave that for you to research, though.
This will change once ChatGPt is retrained and out of beta. Right now this is a hurdle, which is one of the reasons you have to start with an existing strategy vs. creating one from scratch.
The programming part is the easy part, I would rather need ChatGPT to teach me the trading lingo instead. As a programmer all those hardcoded values all over hurts my eyes though.
It would be great if you can select the "Buy & hold equity" at 21:09. Even better if you can compare your maximum drawdown with the maximum drawdown of the "Buy and hold" strategy. After all, what is the point of creating a strategy with different indicators if it can't even beat "Buy and hold"?
Point isn’t to create a strategy here. It was an exercise in overfitting. I explain this near the end. Goal is to get non-traders start testing and validating strategies so they can determine what’s true and what’s not.
If you had bought bitcoin at $2, which was the price first charted on TV, using the $100 margin this script is trading on, and you held it until it reached its high of 69k, you would have netted about 3.45mil. This is still a very cool video. Thanks AA
I just play around with ChatGPT and TradingView, and most of them can beat Buy and Hold. You just have to set the parameter correctly. BTW, BTC/USD Bitstamp on the tradingview D chart: the first candle started at $11, not a few cents. If you spend $1000 to buy bitcoin at $11, you will get 90 bitcoin. That's like $2.4m if you hold until today. But in the video show, turn $1000 into $17 million.

1. You have to do backtest with the tick chart or lower time frame, which requires a paid account, on a free account backtest is noit accurate. 2. It is not as easy as it seems, i spent 2 days trying to get chatGPT to do the coding, but it kept giving me errors even when i gave it the source code to work with, first it was error A, then error B then after fixing B error C came up, then after fixing error C, it went back to error A. In the end you still need to udnerstand a bit of pinescript to do some fine tuning.
I have the same problem. I ask it to show me the line of code with the error, and then have Chat GPT focus on the one line of code. I also make suggested changes manually to minimize new errors from being generated.
But its not garantid the profit precent is acording to the past, you have to start investing with this money only if you think bitcoin wil perform like it did in the past.

OMG ....... something just came to my mind right now!!!! ChatGPT was trained on the internet, and the internet already include the stock prices, which means it has already seen the future aka lookahead bias! That's why you guys keep getting the insane profit percentage lol.
The only thing that he forgot to mention is the most important part of the entire strategy tester. The strategy will not show the same result 1 hour or 1 day later...
It's still working for me. I have a paid TradingView subscription so perhaps we're seeing different things or you've got a different BTCUSD pairing selected.
@@AnalyzingAlpha I don't really think so that a paid subscription is needed in order to see the same counted result by the strategy tester in different time frames. A simple RSI indicator will also show the same result in a paid account as in a free one. But I will test it in a paid account as well, and I willl let you know the result.
I replicated the code and got the same results in the video. for some reason you have to select BTCUSD-Bitstemp. When I tried BTCUSD-Coinbase it gave me different returns.

I'd love to ask, also: These kinds of strategy are obviously fascinating (particularly for us nerds). Is your perspective that these kinds of methods do (with enough work) lead to good, profitable trading, or is the jury still out on that, or is it more an interesting exercise than a path to profitability. I mean, is the human analysis (assessing the quality of breaks of structure, for example) ultimately the more likely path to profitability than pure code based approaches?
This is just another tool to help you trade just like any indicator. all pinescript is for is back testing strategies, the real fun comes with trading bots
this is a very good question. I will let the OP answer it as well. But the best way to do this is to test this strategy for different periods and see if it gives you similar results. I am sure it won't but it might open a whole new world of ideas for you to help you build your own strategy that will be very lucrative.
You can actually see where the trades where made to see if the share something similar, history doesnt repeat but it often rhymes, so this can give you an edge as btc hysotry tends to repeat in similar ways but people are afraid to tell you
This is an excellent question and there’s a lot of nuance. If you have tons of data, you want make sure that you don’t backtest your strategy on the data you used to create the system. You also should paper trade it for multiple reasons before trading live. And use common sense. Again, lots more to it but this captures the essence.
some automated strategies are optimized for a single particular financial intruments. It doesnt need to fit everywhere. It really all depends on the users portfolio management strategy.

I love when those kind off videos dont show there list off trades.. Not showing if you are in a 10year period or 1year.. And don't looking to the gain for a simple buy and hold.. if we are talking about a 10year period.. just holding could give you the same results.. and don't talking about the downhill and the end off the strategy.. 6 months can make big returns then 1 year will give you a fraction of it. that is not uncommon. my rule of thumb is. if its profits in every time frame from 1 day to all then you have something thats profitable or something to build from.

If you go to the brokers section, for some brokers, you can connect your account. If your broker isn’t supported, then if you wanted to use Tradingview, you could use web hooks.

The chart you are backtesting the strategy on at 12:08 has what appears to be the entire history of bitcoin, since it goes from at least in the area of $4000 to well over $40,000. Just buying and holding and selling at the peak is a winning strategy in that situation. Anyone could make a million on that chart..... and it had a profit ratio of 55%??
Did you ever do this live with real money? If yes, where's the post? If no, why not? Finally, what happens if you are going only long, and price drops? Isn't both ways better? You can do it every day!
This is curve fitting to the extreme. Chat GPT simply found a way to optimise this section of market action, the results of this strategy would be wildly different on the next month of chart data. I'm not sure many traders could manage a 49% drawdown of over 15 Million on that 17 Million gained either. O.o

i only took out the short statement and it stopped plotting. from that point on it was a roller coaster of emotions trying to troubleshoot. 37 revisions in and it doesn't work at all. chat GPT keeps reproducing the same errors, which leads me to believe it's not entirely capable of writing pinescript.
