I love that this has been developed by actually studying and analyzing tape devices and their intricacies and idiosyncrasies. I've tried a bazillion lofi pedals at this point, and have never found one that matches the vibe of the Gen Loss, and am super pumped to get a mkii!! Amazing work!! P.S. - If you want to go ahead and make some "What is wow?" t-shirts, I think those would be a hit.
I am so stoked to finally get a Gen Loss straight from the sources and this one looks so killer. Thanks for your research on the pedal and excellent work on the demo!
i have two different microcassette recorders, a 4-track, 8track reel, radio shack recorder, a vintage porta-reel, a vcr (and its just too damn laborious for me to use all that stuff on a regular for making music... even though thats where my heart truly is...) and grew up in the 80s listening to music on walkmans and i just cant believe how close this is to all of that AND then some - please keep this in production, guys, (as much as you can) i cant afford it right now but can save up. but there's zero chance ill be able to afford the aftermarket prices. this thing, jeez, is just everything! 🤘🏾🙌🏾
Same here on owning a bunch of old tape machines. I use a micro cassette and portastudio mostly, but the analogue gear needs dedicated repairs, maintanance, transport, set-up, etc. I like the idea of this mkii having options all in one pedal, in a decent form factor. Also with you on the money thing. I can't justify slapping down a $400 deposit on something that isn't guaranteed, given the demand. And the aftermarket on previous versions is so insane. Guess I'll just sit back and watch this play out, after 3 years of some version of the Gen Loss or another prominently on the wishlist. All in all, it's awesome to see this new version come together.
@@AndyAcker well and putting it that way in terms of cost of that type of analog gear now, this is cheap! and even just as a pedal for what it does, its a great price. and yeah all in all just super glad this came together, its going to change the types of devices others make and hopefully the approach they take to making them
I have a few portastudios i use regularly but im excited to get this in the mix too. Love tape magic but the ability to control so many different aspects of the sound is tantalizing lol
@@Jamesjimjimmy my acoustic guitar and micro cassette recorder is where i caught the recording bug; ima bust out all my old stuff this weekend. im inspired all over again!
I'm so excited about this pedal! More than any of the other recent Chase Bliss pedals or any other company release really. It sounds so amazing, and I can easily understand how I would use it. Thanks for this video! I already had placed my pre-order, and now I'm just more hyped. Congrats guys!
We bought our generation loss directly from Chase bliss and have been using it in our music videos, it is easily the single most amazing pedal I have ever used in 40 years of recording music! Thanks so much!
Incredible pedible! I finally listened with headphones. Yikes. So many sounds. Thank you CB! At a bare minimum, this will be my new overdrive pedal. I can't see ever turning it off. I'm definitely gonna get cramps from turning the knobs.
I really appreciate your earnest approach to this video. A lot of other pedal maker videos are either straight sales pitches or trying to be ironically funny, but I'm bored by both of those and just want to hear people being real. Thank you 🙏
Incredible! Thanks for diving deeper into analyzing the tape decay and for keeping this one as a cb staple. This deserves to be used and heard for years to come. So much love for you all.
I got my first CBA pedal last week. The Gen Loss. While I’ve barely scratched the surface of its potential I can already confirm I love it. Beautifully made as well. I use it in parallel with my Zvex Lo-Fi Instant pedal (another Joel Korte pedal IIRC), the Lo-Fi Loop Junky and a RC-2 looper. The Gen Loss and Lo-Fi Instant are basically always on pedals for me. Thanks guys! PS Tom, I like the classic mode a lot as well. Thanks, man!
I was already happy I pre-ordered this, now I’m….. Double happy? It’s sounds incredible! Just have to make an album with this beast on every single track this fall/winter.
I have an OG Gen Loss and I've used the hell out of it for recording. It's tricky live though with the level drop out. I've missed the boat with every version since. I'm beyond stoked for this ultimate version!
Amazing, can't wait to get it when available, it delivers all the stuff I always loved growing up with 8-bit computers, VHS and copied compact cassettes, I don't have it but I already feel it's one of my favourite pedals...
I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these. Beyond my music projects, this will be a perfect audio effects unit for film projects…I already know how to make the destroyed video visuals, but this takes all the audio work and breaks it down to a handful of knobs. Brilliant work!!
Very cool, but one humble suggestion/request: is there a possibility of making saturation and maybe failure accessible in 'Classic' mode via some kind of button press or whathaveyou? I'm sure a lot of people would like to retain the full filter capabilities while being able to mix these in. The models are probably cool but being able to tune your own bands was kind of essential. I'm very thankful that you kept the ability to switch back to the classic type but that saturation would be so nice to have while still being able to tweak frequency bands.
Yes! I Wanted MK1 but when I got the money it was sold out so I bought the Warped Vinyl Hi-Fi instead, (Facepalm!, I was looking for Lo-Fi) So I sold it and got Shallow Water and later the T-120 Video Tape Echo and El Capistan, second hand. So one might think that I got enough of varble and tape destruction in my rig, (Eurorack btw) but, in short, no. Only regret is the lack of Cooper on the pedal.
Joel and team .. I loved TEFI Labs Golden Era ... now sold out everywhere... I thought they had it figured out... You guys have blown the roof off the concept. I own a bunch of VST cassette and vinyl effects .. .but this takes the cake !
Instant preorder! I’ve always wanted one, so stoked! Reminds me of jogging with my old Walkman when I was in high school listening to a crap copy of a copy of yngwie malmsteen… so yeah I’m stoked.
Oh god I can’t eat for mine to be shipped now ahhh! Soo good! The attention to detail with tape sound that was put into this is really inspiring already. Well done guys! I’m excited to send habit into the Gen Loss!! That’s gonna be amazing!!
I can’t wait for a full Chase Bliss Workstation based around a blooper/habit interface with all sorts of other things like this that can be all mixed together as one box of magic.
To all concerned, I spoke with Tyler at Chase Bliss and he confirmed that the OB-6 was directly connected to the pedal, and apparently has "lots of headroom". Success! Thanks Chase Bliss!
Man you guys i do not have the money to be preordering this right now lol I mean I do and shouldn’t but insure as hell did ….. it’sits speaks to me like everything I’ve ever wanted Don’t know if you realize how much synthwave and vaporwave have take off but I’ve been begging people to make a dedicated pedal for them. Now I don’t have to this is gonna be the holy grail of lo-fi I’m just so blown away totally rad
This would seem to be the GOAT Lo-Fi device. Wow. Maybe…goodbye Shallow Water? The search for the ultimate warbling, degrading, aging, nostalgia inducing box may now be over. Please consider putting them into regular production, if you have not already, because how this looks (stunningly beautiful colour and design) and especially what it does will have them flying off the shelves…
I can't stop watching this clip. There are SO many sounds in this pedal it's unreal. Can't wait to put my Nord 3p into a Nightsky then this. I wanna mangle my reverb real bad. Then my guitar. Yikes. So exciting!
Wow! I don't know how I missed this pedal before, but I have to get one (unfortunately I'm so broke right now.) Would make a great pairing with my Buchla Music Easel. If you guys want to send me one so I can do a demo of it with the Buchla... ;)
Touche guys..... I have destroyed lot of tape... opened up VCRs when I was 8 years old.... great to see this ... edited tapes by cutting with a blade ... still live with 500 audio cassettes and at least 100 VHS cassettes
Could someone please tell me if there's still a way to access blend control on a knob as opposed to just a 3-way toggle on this new version? I love all the advancements here, but a sweepable blend is essential for me with this pedal and I haven't been able to confirm whether it has or has not been limited to toggle blend only on this new version.
Honestly...this pedal looks fantastic. I wasn't a fan of the first version...to me it felt like it just didn't capture the right elements and sounds ...a step backwards from the older Cooper models imo. But, with this version, Tom seems to have really sat down and carefully studied the various types of tape and their elements in order to "get it right". It's a more serious look into these types of sounds and it totally shows. That Saturate knob with the synth....heck ya. And while I didn't care for the Mk1 enough to keep it, the fact that there is a Classic mode on this is another intelligent design choice. Really, I'm just impressed. And with such a flooded pedal market these days...that doesn't happen often for me anymore.
On the Genloss 2 there is a freeze aux function. Is this function present here? And also the noise control is really smart - to the left - static noise, to the right like a gated noise appearing only with incoming signal. Is this also included in the new version? Thanks. Great work.
I’m irritated that I paid quite a bit for the first Chase Bliss version, thinking it was permanently out of production, and then along comes this dizzy wizard to taunt an impoverished lord.
