Goose I know your channel is lighthearted and full of jokes and stuff but I love the fact that you are getting real with your audience. I think this needs to be something that is talked about a lot more so not only you know what you are getting into but that the kids know what reality is.

Serious goose is beneficial for health. Also. My kids did say they wanted to become a youtuber last year. I did tell them go for it as long as its does not harm or hurt others. And yes, do it if u find it fun to do it. Not for fame or money.

I started RU-vid in early 2007. I’ve done soooooo many different channels and ideas, I’ve been suicidal and depressed for so many of those years. I finally moved to instagram and started doing content on there in 2018 or 2019 and grew to 154k followers. The most I ever grew to on RU-vid was 10k and then this channel is 1k. But I never did RU-vid for the money and still don’t. I hate when people only do it for the money, for me social media is a passion. I love to make people laugh. RU-vid videos have always helped me when I was really depressed and even suicidal at times, channels like angry grandpa helped me laugh and get through a lot of depression and that’s what I do social media for. I want to make people laugh or even shock people but I want to take them away from their depression even if it’s just 10 secs of their day.

your videos have been popping up for a while but this is the one that made me go like "ok...i gotta give this guy a sub". nice message. definitely think placing yourself on a platform as a commodity in ruthless competition with others is difficult on the self esteem/mental health. realized i dont want it enough to feel like shit all the time. gotta have a reason beyond success that makes you go through the tough times.

I admire your perseverance! I was an RN for 20 years and I quit to be a "you tuber" lol. But I didn't do it for the money. I did it because I couldn't imagine living the rest of my life not pursuing something I loved. I'm poor now, but I'm happy.

This is so well said and needs to be more known. I work in the industry and people ask me for advice on starting a channel all the time. My first response is always “are you making videos right now?” They always say no, then I say “it’s not for you then.” Conversation over. You gotta be sick about it. And people who are sick about it are already making videos.

Just came from your I don’t care video. Keep doing these and exploring different themes. I have no intention to be a RU-vidr but I think a lot of people need to hear this and it’s relevant for any field.

However if I ever decided to take a stab at being an actual RU-vidr I'd definitely not be concerned with money.. Just being able to share with others my gaming experiences so they're not just remembered by me but can be seen by people all over the world would be enough for me.

It's like when people say " I want to be my own boss, So I can work less and get more money". But that's just not how it works in most cases. People want the highlight reel and ignore the thousands of hours of attempts that went into making it.

Thank you for this video. I'm a 100% disabled Vet, married w/ 4 kids and I've been grinding content creation since I got laid off from my job in 2018. I've had my ups and downs but I love doing it. It does feel like I'm not getting anywhere at times and I get burnt out. But... I keep pushing. A lot of creators would say I need to grind more but I'm literally doing the best I can with the hand I was dealt. I know one day all the hard work will pay off!

I've never wanted to be a youtuber ever, however I see your lessons being applicable for just about everything you want to do. Have patience, hold yourself accountable and most of all, love what you do.

One of my favourite quotes i heard recently is "The cynics get to be right and the optimists get to be rich". If you're a cynic, you'll almost always be correct in saying that something won't work out. But sometimes, it does work out. The only way to ensure it never does is by not trying.

Great video. I feel everything you're saying. The mental health aspect is something most people don't realize about creators. In some ways it only gets worse as you get bigger. You really do have to be driven by something bigger than all of that. When people say they want to be "a RU-vidr" I feel like they're already on the wrong track. They're aiming to make money from being something (ie. a mini celebrity), rather than from doing something (ie. making videos), and most of them don't even make videos yet. If they aren't driven to make videos before they start asking about success on RU-vid, I don't think they have much of a chance. I started making videos with Windows Movie Maker long before RU-vid existed.

I never saw any of your videos but my 22 yr old daughter shared your channel with me. She said she binge watches your videos. You are hysterical! Now I subscribed because I think you are the funniest RU-vidr. I'm glad it worked out for you!

GeeseMan isnt wrong... This takes dedication, I literally edit my videos while I work my normal 8-5 job (multi-tasking!) but honestly, I do this for fun as a hobby. I'm already building projects and doing stuff around the house/ helping family/friends, so I figured why not record myself.

Hey Brotha! long time enjoyer of your art! just wanted to say i appreciate this video alot, and it resonates with all ways of life for sure, not just youtube. I worked with my father ever since I could drag brush, he would say a few times through our years of working together that he didn't want me to get into the line of work as it takes a huge toll on the body, for whatever broken reason, i took that to mean i needed to make what we did easier on our bodies and worked harder in the industry. after a decade he left me his service, I broke down after a couple years doing it alone, (my fiance left a year before, working/growing with my father was the real reason i wanted to work hard) if your lil one grows up wanting to work with you, I hope you'll be in a state of mind at that time to want to grow with her, because that's all any family really wants imo. Anyway, thanks again for all the great laughs on the regular, and this great introspective video. Much love Goose

I’m kind of in a similar boat, but with being a musician as opposed to a RU-vidr. I just wrapped up my undergrad and crushed my MCAT; looking to head to med school after a gap year. But during college I was in a band and I got so obsessed with making music and playing shows. We ended up breaking up, leading me to pursue my own music. Been trying to promote it using social media, and it is just a soul sucking process. I’m realizing I might be more obsessed with the recognition I got on stage as opposed to the actual creative process. It also makes me envious and bitter of my friends who are more successful with music. Tricky situations

I make music and it's a similar thing in a lot of ways, people see an artist pop off "randomly" but they don't realize that they didn't see the 10+ years of work it took that artist to be making what they're making now

I appreciate you making this video. You don't often see a creator make a video that talks about this career path in an honest and real way. It also just so happens to be that you dropped this video at the exact time I needed to see it. I'm 37, have ADHD, and I have parents and others in my life who don't believe that entertainment or the arts is a valid career path. That has f#*ked me up for a long time now. Constantly bouncing between jobs I don't want to do, only to end up back to working on my passion in between. It just so happens though that recently I stopped giving in to outside influence and started to formulate a plan/schedule to put in the work. Like you said, there is no greater factor than consistency, when it comes to your success. What up Goose.. i am a fellow Baldsman… im 34 years old been bald since 17 and i have tried about 4 different channels on RU-vid as well.. for me the hardest part is finding my niche! I haven’t quite found what i can do on RU-vid that will be different than everyone else!! You found something!! Also, i have 6 kids and cannot for the life of me save enough money to get filming equipment or a microphone even!! So that sucks smh.. i am ADHD as well and i have that creative side that most ppl with ADHD have but i just have to find my niche!! This video is real tho bc if you are doing it for the money then most likely you will not enjoy it in the long run!
