A discussion of a few generative patching techniques and a patch breakdown of Todd Barton's Krell Muzak patch as well as an attempt at patching Rob Hordijks Benjolin with eurorack modules. This video is created as part of Portland Community College's Music & Sonic Arts program in Spring 2020.
CORRECTION: In the video I state that Krell is a reference to "Fantastic Planet", it is actually a reference to "Forbidden Planet', both of which are great films, but Forbidden Planet is the one with the soundtrack by Bebe and Louis Barron.

There are a few Schlappi Engineering prototypes used in the video (4Q, Weld), there are no guarantees these will ever be released.

1. Brilliant explanations of these two generative patches! I've been experimenting with them off/on for over a year. I still struggle with understanding the design of the Rungler patch. I have O_C with the Hemisphere Suite, which has the Runglr Book app, but there is no documentation of how to patch it up. Your video helps a lot. 2. It took me some time and research on the internet to figure out that the two triangle waves are sent to a comparator. I did not understand the symbol or the principle. 3. I need the Angle Grinder! 4. I always thought "Schlappi" rhymed with "poppy" and "choppy", so I thought your company was "Sloppy Engineering", which would be a wonderful name. Thanks again!

SCHLAPPI ENGINEERING No worries. What was strange was it seemed off to me but it took about five minutes for the actual name to pop into my head.

forbidden planet :)

It was Forbidden Planet, not Fantastic Planet. Fantastic Planet was a Animated film, Forbidden Planet was with Robby the Robot and the extinct alien race called the "Krell" that left behind some of their music recordings, and the entire film track was early electronic music experiments by Louis & Bebe Barron.

Yup, as stated in the description of the video, it's just a slip up (they are two of my favorite films). Thanks for watching!
