my neighbour who worked with power tools etc used to put the part you used emery paper on in a drill press or a drill in a vice and then used a fine file to clean and level it out while it was turning. I never seen him ruin one all the time he was alive. Sure miss him and all his little tricks

cool, looking forward to watching this one. You were not kidding on needing the crank gear removal tool. I got it and removed the gears today. Wow even with WD-40 sprayed on those were really one there. My impact was put to the test.

It’s great to reuse and repair the OEM stuff. Bosch stuff is almost unobtanium nowadays. The quality of Chinesium replacement parts nowadays is not good.

The pullies on those generators were the first generation ones. VW change the design in 71 or 72. The small tabs were known to break off and the engine would overheat. I don't know if it happen because it wasn't torque down correctly or just wear over time.
