This was my mums song for me. It was playing on the way back from the hospital after I was born and she told me I was staring at her through the whole song. Every time this song came on she would tell me it’s our song. She died at Christmas, she was 40. I listen to this almost every day now. I love and miss you mum x
Its mine for my son Marcus. I had some dark times in my life but there was always light my beautiful son marcus. He is the love of my life he always gives me hope l. My handsome now 23 year old man is a one off and suits his name.
How could a guy that looks like a truck driver be one of the most talented musical artists of all time …… all you beautiful people never judge a book by its cover …. We deserve better 😔 love you Phil you give hope to the people of heart that are not conventional
This was played at my dad's funeral/cremation last Friday. This, Tears in Heaven and Wish You Were Here. He was a massive fan of Genesis, Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Yes, Snap. Fly high Dad, Love You ❤️
Sad to hear. He had great taste in music. I sometimes wonder what I want at mine when it comes around, songs that I love, songs that are in keeping with the occasion or something ridiculous for a last laugh.
I remember when this song came out. I was 10. My mum had just died. To help get our minds off it, we drove down to Mt Cook. This was played consistently on the radio. Every time I listen to this, I think of that trip.
What an underrated song by critics, often disqualified as a song that kicked off the so-called pop era of Genesis. Beautiful melody, beautifully sung, great drum groove and bass line, legendary keyboard solo. For me, a song that can compete with Whiter Shade of Pale by Procul Harum - it's up there. Beautiful, timeless.
Fell in love to this track in 1978 my wife who lived 100 miles away we had two children together and I lost her to cancer after 8 years together I still love her to this day
Some may say this song is simple, but to me it’s the best and most beautiful song about happy love. No broken hearts, no drama, just everyday happiness ☺️😍
I love this. It will be our wedding song. Just lost my mum and dad, my life really. So if you you are around Phil, we r getting old and need to marry after 35 years together xxx come sing for us xxx
Thank the heavens above for British rock!!! How brilliant all these British artists have been over the decades. Travelled to England from Australia in 2012 and walked the streets knowing that l was in the country that produced much musical finery. The English should be so proud of it's musical history. For me it's definately the seventies, especially the Glam Rock era. Rock on England, you rock and l breathed the air that they all breathed.
This was me and my sons favourite song sadly he passed away in 2008 He went to bed perfectly healthy and died in his sleep it’s now 11 years I miss so much 😇he was my hero x
Vor gefühlt 45 Jahren ist mir meine ältere Schwester mit diesem Lied sowas von auf die Nerven gegangen. Und heute. Ich höre das Lied immer wieder gerne und mir kommen Tränen in die Augen.
This was my beginnin to be a Genesis/Phil Collins Fan..as a schoolchild. Now I was a mother in law..in the age of 60. And this is still my music. God bless 🙏🤗🙏
@@Liryc83 Apparently dumped his wife via fax. And after writing and a multi million selling record about homelessness he said he'd leak the UK if Labour (a party who historically raised taxes to fund social programmes to make lives better) got into power.
brill song from the group. never care for the knockers who tell you different one life . they will be gone at some stage in our lifes but the music will live on .
Just listen to Genesis, Phil collins has a gift from the heavens and it will be a sad day when hes no longer with us. His music is an absolute masterclass!
LISTEN TO THIS SONG AND REMEMBER ME A MORE SIMPLE TIME, WITHOUT INTERNET, WITHOUT CELL PHONES, WITHOUT SOCIAL NETWORKS ... I BELIEVE IT WAS A TIME BETTER THAN THE ONE WE LIVED TODAY
An absolutely beautiful piece of music, it's trance like in it's very own sense, space of wellbeing. It's therapeutic, hypnotise in a not so obvious way. The sound is more 80s than 70s. Genesis were ahead of their time.
Was 17 when this first came out, now 62 and wishing life had a rewind button but it doesn’t work like that, if it wasn’t for music I’m not sure our minds could take us back to a carefree time when we didn’t constantly worry about our health and finances.
This was my dad’s song choice at his joint funeral with my mum 😔 Saw Genesis live the other night and they played it then. Very emotional and always will be for me.
My Mum passed this year and my Dad went about a month later. They were together for over 50 years and he had to go and follow her. This song reminds me of them and my wonderful childhood days of the late 1970's, no modern tech but the best times ever!!
When you have amazing parents you are the most blessed, you realise that later in life and give thanks for them and honour them. That bond is one of the strongest in life.
I hear that and I am immediately transported back to 1978, and it doesn't seem that long ago, and yet it's nearly 40 years ago. Incredible amount of time has passed by. Unbelievable. 1978 was a time of no computers. No satellite TV. No mobiles. There were only three TV channels in the UK. And VCRs were too expensive to buy so you had to watch TV when it was on. The biggest radio station in the country was Radio 1, and Grease was massive. And I fancied Olivia Newton-John. Ha ha.
We are from the lucky generation, the one where the world of music was at it's creative height. Grease? Sure if you want it, punk, rock, concept, disco, it was all there! Amazing days. This song & Reading festival in 1978, the memories are coming with me to the afterlife.
This song is in a different class to Turn It On Again and some of their other hits that they had around the time. It's got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever.
I was diagnosed I'm in recovery I still cry my eyes out at this because I was basically I was saying goodbye to the wife when I told her this was my funeral song still is hope ure recovery goes well
This was played at a funeral of a close colleague and friend of mine and brings back a very sad parting for me every time I hear it of a lot of long chats we had together. God bless you Bob. You were a TRUE gentleman. Sadly missed x
My dad is dead just one month ago. It's so difficult to accept that I will never see him again or Just speak together....this Song has arrived now.. I feel so sad....bye Daddy, I love you, for ever.
@@elisabaldi5138 so sad for your loss. Words of songs mean so much in dark times and so over looked in every day. My parents are old now and I dread the day. Live every minute to most and take care of those close to you the best you can and you’ll never be disappointed with yourself. Take care x
Heard this on the radio this morning, 3 weeks ago my partner of 25 years walked out on me, I sitting here in tears wondering what went so wrong I miss her so much 😢
Stay with me My love I hope you'll always be Right here by my side if ever I needed you Oh my love In your arms I feel so safe and so secure Everyday is such a perfect day to spend Alone with you I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year With the dark Oh I see so very clearly now All my fears are drifting by me so slowly now Fading away I can say The night is long but you are here Close at hand I'm better for the smile you give And while I live I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year there will be I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year
I'd say this is the first real 'pop' genesis song and I think its brilliant. I'm a massive fan of the band and hate when people choose to completely disregard the later work with Phil. All eras of this band are great and all of their music is wonderful.
@@robertsmyth1313 exactly, its useless trying to delineate between eras and styles when they were so consistently unique and made so much remarkable music :)
Impressionante como essa música ainda está sendo ouvida hoje em dia. É uma obra eterna. Outro dia vi um vídeo do Phil Collins na cadeira de rodas cantando essa música. Vocês não imaginam o sucesso.
Oh my God....that intro, it's 1978 and i'm in the local youth club, all spots, flares and that innocent, awkward attempt at a slow dance with my first girlfriend...how life passes too quickly, but memories like this never go away...x
