Phil's talent and capacity to improvise in real times is unsurpassable. Bill is outstanding but he's like a drumming súper computer while Phil is everything at once, carelessly overshadowing everyone else with the added charisma. He's king Midas, born for success. Agreed… soon enough Phil would go to see weather report… and find Chester!…x bill has a laid back groove and I can well imagine the band felt safe with him, who could replace Phil anyway!

We are facing the genius and figure that marked the decade of the 70's. The enormous Phil Colins represents the soul... and the very essence of the great band, putting himself on their shoulders for this epic and historic concert! Long live Genesis!

Wow, what a brief moment in time! After Gabriel had left, but Hackett was still with them, and Bill Bruford joining in on the drums. And you see so much of what they would continue to use in concerts for years to come. The interplay between Collins and Rutherford, for example, the extended bit at the end of the song that would eventually become a medley, and of course, Phil playing around with the tambourine!

Much love for B. Bruford throughout these comments; all deserved. Excellent tune, entertaining presentation and master musicianship. As a drummer myself I can't tell what's better...Bruford in his Bruins gear or Collins in his Jesus-beard. Epic! Long live the tambourine!

This could have possibly been Genesis' best lineup in a perfect world. Bruford really earns his progressive stripes here(not that he didn't 1000x times already), interpreting &executing this material so flawlessly. Rutherford is masterful on the bass. And Hackett fans could have stayed satisfied &not vomiting stupid comments all over the internet today. Banks is, well let's face it~ The heart, soul &sonic motor of Genesis.

Agree entirely. I can't stand clicking Genesis vids now bcos it's nothing but a pissing contest of daft bird fankids spouting about Gabriel/Hackett/Phil, now Genesis sucks gah. I highly doubt Bruford would have left His Crimson gig permanently just to be the concert drummer for this band, w/all the infighting that was to ensue shortly after this tour. Pity, he really would have been great with them.

Nick Brylka-Mee He's also a foundational and most musically vital member of one of the world's greatest and most prolifically creative bands. He's earned the right to have an eccentrically sour personality, imo. Were it not for Bank's 'boringness' and 'anti-social' behaviors in Genesis not getting dragged down by all the partying and keeping the band on track, Genesis would have never made it as far as they did.

Another aspect of The Lamb that adds to its quality (and one reason why it's one of my all-time favorite LP_'s) is how the music on side 4 builds in intensity and dynamics. Slipperman and Riding the Skree feature balls to the wall keyboard playing by Banks, some of the best he ever did over the years. Side 4 ends with Itt, one of the most rocking songs they ever did. Compare Lamb to other double LP's like "Tommy," and The Wall, " and there's just no comparison in how those albums build to their finales compared to The Lamb. It's obviously not easy to pull off, but Genesis made it look easy.

I wouldn't count on that. As Bruford himself admitted, he acted 'badly' during the tour, that he kept 'sniping' and 'complaining' until he was finally replaced by Chester Thompson. It would seem the Bruford ego was hard at work, that he wasn't used to being a 'hired hand' and resented being told not only what to play but how to play it. He claimed he later 'apologized' but I doubt it very much. I've heard Bruford berate other musicians - Chris Squire, Alan White to name a few and in an interview he called Jon Anderson 'a little man' who 'wanted to be big man'. He bailed on Yes just as they were about to go on the Close to the Edge tour forcing them to cancel a number of shows. He kept bickering with John Wetton and Eddie Jobson until they kicked him out of U.K.. In his memoirs, Peter Banks wrote how Bill was rude to him backstage at Yes's L.A. show for the 'Union' tour, how he was 'cold' and 'unfriendly'. Banks was shocked and hurt, if not totally embarrassed, especially when Bruford's good friend, Steve Howe, refused to let Banks come up on stage to play 'Starship Trooper'.
